Location of work: Remote but role holder will ideally be London-based to be able to frequently commute for meetings/ events at Westminster. The role may involve also some infrequent travel across the UK.
Contract type: Full-time, 35 hours per week, although flexible/ compressed hours will be considered. The role will require occasional evening and weekend work.

Magic Breakfast is the UK’s leading school breakfast charity and makes a difference to over 350,000 children and young people every day by offering breakfasts and expert advice to tackle child morning hunger in schools across England and Scotland.

JOB PURPOSE
The role of the Policy and Public Affairs Manager is a high-impact role, central to designing and delivering Magic Breakfast’s national policy and public affairs strategy in England. The role holder will lead the development of evidence-based policy positions and work collaboratively to drive forward strategic, integrated and impactful advocacy campaigns to successfully influence decision-makers, policy change, and funding frameworks aligned with our key objectives. Specifically, you will also lead the design and implementation of our new workstream to expand school breakfast provision to secondary schools and early years settings, alongside our work to ensure the effective implementation of the Free Breakfast Club Programme.
More broadly, you will keep abreast of political developments relevant to Magic Breakfast - proactively identifying opportunities to respond, influence and shape the debate across the school food system and provide strategic, analytical and timely advice to the Senior Leadership Team.
Using your excellent communication skills, you will be able to translate complex policy into tailored and effective communications, policy briefings, positions and submissions, and will play a lead role in confidently engaging external stakeholders including UK Government Ministers, Parliamentarians, special advisers, officials and sector partners.

KEY RESPONSOBILITIES
Build and maintain strong relationships with UK Government Ministers, Parliamentarians, Special Advisers, officials and sector organisations, including conducting stakeholder mapping and power analysis to identify key routes to influence.
Design, lead and implement integrated advocacy campaigns to deliver maximum impact in collaboration with cross-organisational teams.
Work closely with colleagues to share expertise and intelligence, inform and shape research areas, support campaign activities aligned with advocacy objectives, and respond proactively to live developments across the organisation.
Line manage and support the development of the Public Affairs Officer.
Strong ability to translate complex policy into clear, persuasive communications tailored to specific audiences to deliver maximum impact.

Responsibilities and Person Specification:
This role supports the charity’s media and PR programme, helping to secure positive coverage and strengthen its reputation through proactive and reactive communications. It will contribute to the organisation’s ambition by increasing awareness, influence, and engagement with key audiences across traditional and digital media channels.
Working within the media communications team, the post-holder will lead on media planning and PR projects, identifying opportunities for both short-term campaigns (such as report launches) and longer-term storytelling by spotting future hooks and moments to promote key messages and calls to action. The role will also support wider team strategy development and contribute to a busy and responsive press office.
You should have experience in media relations and press office activity, including drafting high-quality media materials such as press releases, statements, op-eds and thought leadership content. Liberty is a small organisation which punches above its weight. The Media and Communications Officers will use their media experience to support the running of our busy press office by being the first point of contact for journalists, drafting responses to media requests, and supporting our spokespeople with interview briefings. They will also help build our profile in the media by forging relationships with key contacts across broadcast, print and new forms of digital media.
Telling an inclusive story about the importance of our rights and freedoms to everyday lives is central to who we are and what we do. The Media and Communications Officers will deliver engaging outputs across social media and our website, adapting core messages across different platforms. They will help bring technical legal and policy arguments to life through creative storytelling that resonates with the public.

Experience
• A track record (over three years) of successfully delivering in a similar or related role.

About Friends of the Dales
Friends of the Dales is an independent membership and campaigning charity dedicated to the Yorkshire Dales. We campaign on issues including nature recovery, wildlife, farming, access, housing, transport, climate resilience, landscape management and sustainable rural communities.

The Role
The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, operational management and external representation for the charity. Reporting to the Chair of Trustees, you will be responsible for delivering the Board’s strategic direction and business plan, growing the supporter base, strengthening financial resilience and ensuring our campaigning remains impactful and aligned with our mission and values.
This is a varied and influential role requiring a confident, collaborative and hands-on leader who can balance strategic oversight with day-to-day delivery. You will work closely with trustees, staff, volunteers, members, supporters and external partners to help shape the future of the charity.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a candidate with:
● Senior leadership experience or aligned and transferable experience and skills in a charity, membership organisation or similar environment.
● Direct experience or transferable experience of campaigning, influencing, advocacy or policy work.
● Strong organisational leadership and operational management skills.
● Knowledge and experience of fundraising, membership growth, partnership working and charity operations.
● The ability to inspire staff, trustees, volunteers, members and supporters.
● A values-driven approach and a strong understanding of, or connection to, the Yorkshire Dales and the issues affecting it.
Experience in a similar setting may be transferable, and we welcome candidates who can demonstrate the skills, insight and leadership needed to succeed in the role.
Working Arrangements
This is a permanent role, offered as either:
● Part-time: 4 days per week, or.
● Full-time: 37 hours per week.
The salary is £50,000 per annum FTE, with part-time hours paid pro rata.
The role is based at Canal Wharf, Eshton Road, Gargrave, BD23 3PN, with some flexibility around working hours and location by agreement. Regular travel across the Yorkshire Dales and occasional evening and weekend working will be required. Ideally, the successful candidate will live in, or within approximately 30 miles of, the perimeter of the Yorkshire Dales.
We offer:
● 22 days annual leave, rising to 27 days after five years’ service, plus English bank holidays, pro rata for part-time hours.
● Additional paid leave over the Christmas and New Year office closure.
● An enhanced employer pension contribution of 5% via NEST.
