At the heart of Marie Curie's Marketing & Communications department, our PR & Media team works to amplify the charity's voice across national and regional media platforms. We're a supportive and ambitious team, collaborating with colleagues across Fundraising, Research, Caring Services and Policy, as well as with our network of media professionals and agencies.

As PR and Media Officer, you will play a crucial role in raising the profile of Marie Curie through compelling storytelling, high-impact media campaigns, and strategic press engagement. Reporting to the Senior PR & Media Officer and working closely with the wider team, your work will directly contribute to influencing public understanding of end of life care, supporting fundraising efforts, and positioning Marie Curie as the UKs leading end of life charity.

Your creativity, media know-how, and relationship-building skills will help us deliver standout coverage and meaningful public engagement that drives the charity's long-term goals.

Main responsibilities:
- Support the development and delivery of national PR campaigns that promote fundraising and brand objectives.
- Help manage the charity's national press office/newsroom, proactively and reactively responding to media opportunities.
- Draft and distribute press releases, statements, briefings, and Q&As to position Marie Curie as a leading voice in end of life care.
- Build and nurture relationships with journalists across print, online and broadcast media.
- Work closely with internal teams to source stories and case studies that drive media impact and support strategic KPIs.
- Identify and prepare media spokespeople and storytellers, ensuring authentic and powerful representation of lived experiences.
- Monitor emerging issues and support on reputational risk and crisis communications.
- Take part in the on-call rota, including occasional out-of-hours, weekend and bank holiday working.
- Track and evaluate media coverage against agreed performance metrics.

Key Criteria:
- Previous experience in public relations (in-house or agency), particularly in a press office/newsroom setting or as a journalist?
- A confident communicator and skilled writer, with strong attention to detail and sensitivity when handling personal stories.
- Strong knowledge of the UK media landscape and current affairs, with a proven ability to secure impactful coverage.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- A nose for a good story and the initiative to pursue media opportunities as they arise.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive self-starter, comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Strategy and Leadership

• To support the day-to-day management of the charity and contribute to the organisation’s strategic direction and growth, as part of the senior leadership team.
• To contribute to the preparation of the charity's strategic plan and the monitoring and reporting of progress against organisational goals and objectives.
• Lead on cross-organisational projects in line with organisational strategy.

Fundraising:

• To develop a clear and inspiring vision for fundraising, backed up by ambitious strategies and activities that significantly raise awareness of Mary’s Meals in the UK, and grow and diversify income.
• To ensure our fundraising approach and activities remain aligned with our organisational strategy, values and fundraising model.
• To lead, inspire and develop the Supporter Engagement team (formed of the Grassroots, Philanthropy, Institutional Giving and Supporter Care teams).
• To manage a portfolio of donor, volunteer and prospect relationships, travelling regularly to attend meetings, and network to cultivate new prospects and funding opportunities.
• To support the team to develop professional and engaging fundraising materials including fundraising propositions, applications, proposals, appeals, pitches, presentations and reports.
• To oversee volunteer strategy, management and support to further empower our volunteers with a greater role in our shared vision and maximise their skills and networks.

Budgeting, Reporting and Compliance

• To set, monitor and deliver annual income and expenditure budgets, providing regular reports as required to the Executive Director, Leadership team, wider Mary’s Meals family, and our Board of Trustees.
• To feed into organisational strategic KPIs and team KPIs, and ensure a regular schedule of reporting, and insight gathering is in place to monitor activity and use insight to guide decision-making and drive growth. 

People and culture

• To create a high performing team that is ambitious and passionate about the Mary’s Meals vision.
• To ensure teams receive consistent and motivating direction and feedback to enable them to work to the best of their ability.
• Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the charity at all levels, adopting and encouraging a collaborative working approach across the Mary’s Meals family. This role must work particularly closely with the Director of Communications, and collaboration with this role will be key.
• To work with the Head of People to ensure that MMUK is an employer of choice which attracts, recruits and retains a talented team of values-led, paid employees and volunteers, throughout the UK.
• To actively promote safeguarding practices and model behaviours that support a safe culture across all MMUK activities. 

About you:

• Significant experience operating at senior management level, including leading a fundraising department, ideally with experience in the areas of grassroots and major giving fundraising.
• Experience of developing and executing strategies to secure significant revenue generation, with specific evidence of delivering income growth.
• Experience of representing an organisation at a senior level, with excellent written, presentation and public speaking skills.
• Excellent entrepreneurial networking and relationship building abilities, with experience of proactively identifying and cultivating new and existing donor relationships, and securing strategic funding partnerships and high-value donations.
• Experience in volunteer strategy, management, recruitment and engagement.
• Experience in setting, monitoring and delivering significant annual income and expenditure budgets, providing regular reports as required.
• Experience of testing and launching new fundraising products (e.g., mass engagement grassroots campaigns, corporate partnerships, major donor events etc.).
• Experience of developing first-class supporter journeys, interactions, products and propositions.
• Experience in innovation and product development.

• Experience of producing accurate, unbiased, concise snapshot research as well as more in-depth research profiles detailed reports, network mapping and analysis on donors and prospects.

- Monitor and support compliance with the charity's policy management framework, including SharePoint administration and documentation control.
- Administer and report on conflicts of interest processes and maintain accurate registers in line with data governance standards.
- Analyse and report on incidents and complaints, identifying trends and supporting improvements through shared learning.
- Track progress against audit recommendations, board assurance framework, and follow up on counter-fraud incidents, ensuring timely closure of actions.
- Support the management of Marie Curie's insurance programme, including inbox monitoring, data collation, renewals and contractor assurance.
- Assist with the business continuity programme, highlighting patterns and supporting teams to implement relevant actions.
- Provide general administrative, analytical and reporting support across the compliance portfolio, adapting to shifting priorities as needed.

Key Criteria:
- Solid knowledge of compliance principles, risk management, audit processes, and assurance frameworks.
- Previous experience working with insurance programs.
- Experience coordinating processes end-to-end, particularly within complaints handling, audit action plans or insurance-related functions.
- Proven ability to analyse data and communicate complex information clearly to varied audiences.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently.
- IT Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications (including Excel, SharePoint, Teams) and information/data management systems. Desire to explore additional technical solutions (e.g., Power BI).

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide operational leadership and oversight of the Carers Manchester Volunteer Programme and support the wider development of the Volunteer Programme at Gaddum. The Volunteer Coordinator will work with Carers Manchester colleagues to ensure volunteers feel equipped and supported to use their skills and lived experience in a range of established volunteer roles.

They will also work with the team to develop and recruit volunteers for new roles that support Carers Manchester to deliver on its aims and objectives. The role will involve maintaining close working relationships with our Central Team, Health & Safety systems, and compliance responsibilities.

Major Gifts Officer

These are ambitious times for the Charity as we have recently launched a new strategy that sees us growing our impact across the world exponentially. We now have an exciting opportunity for a proactive and self-motivated Major Gifts Officer with outstanding decision making and multi-tasking skills to join the dedicated Fundraising Department.

Position: 1935 Major Gifts Officer

Location: This role is nominally based in Sidmouth, Devon – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – and offers hybrid working (fully remote/home working and flexible working patterns considered)

Hours: full-time, 35 hours per week, 08.30-16.30, Monday-Friday (Please note that we are happy to consider applications on a part-time basis – 28 hours per week over 4 days)

About the Role

As Major Gifts Officer, you will support delivery of agreed activity within the Major Gifts Team, successfully cultivating and stewarding a portfolio of mid-value individuals and trusts and delivering a range of agreed projects. Working closely with the Major Gifts Managers, you will evolve and continuously improve supporter stewardship and cultivation activity in line with their capacity and propensity to donate. 

Your principal duties and responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the delivery of the Major Gifts Strategy, improving Major Gifts performance.

• Supporting the Major Gifts cultivation/stewardship programme to grow the number of supporters financially contributing mid value and major gifts.

• Managing, supporting and attending Major Gifts stewardship and cultivation meetings and events, including supplier liaison, supporter invite lists, follow ups and budgets.

• Securing, managing and stewarding a portfolio of active mid-value donors and charitable trusts, delivering compelling bids and donor reports, forging and maintaining strong and enduring relationships.

• Researching current and potential major and mid-value donors to enable a donor-centric approach.

• Delivering and reporting on agreed development and stewardship projects, fundraising targets and KPIs. 

About You

As Major Gifts Officer, you will have experience of supporting or managing mid value or major donors, high value or sensitive customers.

You will have:

• A proven track record of meeting and exceeding fundraising/sales targets.

• Experience of working within a team environment with complex internal stakeholders.

• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport and trust with donors. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of writing successful bids (fundraising or sales) and summary reports. 

• Strong research and prospecting skills. 

• Project and event management experience.
