- To be the point of contact at Headway Hertfordshire’s peer support groups, coffee mornings and existing Carers evening support group, within your designated area.
- To organise and facilitate our Welwyn and Letchworth peer support groups that are held within a hall setting, together with our volunteers.
- To attend coffee mornings at venues in East Herts (Hertford), North Herts (Hitchin) and Stevenage, together with our volunteers.
- To attend our existing Carers Evening Support Group in Stevenage with potential for a further Carers Support Group during the day.
- To raise any issues of concern and/or queries from group members/volunteers with the Support Coordinator as soon as possible for her to follow up.
- To distribute information to those attending the groups sent by Headway Hertfordshire
- Obtain signed Registers at each peer support group and coffee morning and input them onto the Headway Hertfordshire database. Records to be kept up to date.
- Collect subscriptions from our clients at relevant Welwyn Peer Support Group(s) and pass to the Support Coordinator. Also, be responsible for collecting money from clients and/or carers for any activities or events that Headway Hertfordshire may arrange.
- To report any health and safety related incidents to the Support Coordinator as soon as possible for the necessary paperwork to be completed.
- To notify the Support Coordinator as soon as possible if you are unable to attend any of the peer support groups due to illness.
- To give the Support Coordinator at least two weeks’ notice if unable to attend the peer support groups due to holiday.
- To support the Support Coordinator when new clients and/or carers attend the groups – Support Coordinator will try to attend with new person, but if not possible, details will be sent in advance by the Support Coordinator.
- Administration of annual Premises Risk Assessments and individual Risk Assessments of Volunteers within your designated area.

About the oppurtunity:
You will help drive the quality and impact of our key stage 2 (KS2) and key stage 4 (KS4) maths tutoring programmes through subject-specific training of volunteer tutors, and by advising and supporting our (mostly) non-teaching staff members who manage these volunteer tutors day to day.
You will also observe and give feedback to volunteer tutors delivering maths tuition, and deliver general training for new volunteers, so that they are confident and effective in taking part in our tutoring programmes.

Specific responsibilities relating to the role:
Supporting the delivery of our maths curriculum:
- Design and deliver online maths-focused training for volunteer tutors so that subject knowledge is secure within the tutor community.
- Provide advice and support, including some direct tutor communications, on subject-specific matters for Action Tutoring staff who manage volunteer tutors.
- Maintain existing tutoring GCSE and KS2 maths curriculum resources to ensure volunteer tutors have high quality materials to use in sessions.
- Support Action Tutoring’s Programme Department to provide and respond to requests for additional materials for tutoring sessions, particularly maths sessions.
- Support with creation of additional maths resources on an ad hoc basis as required, applying Action Tutoring’s pedagogical approach and standards for diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Format any newly generated maths curriculum content for printing.
- Reformat maths curriculum resources for online delivery of tutoring sessions.
- Engage in learning and development opportunities in order to keep knowledge about the expectations set out in the maths national curriculum (KS2 and KS4) and the main exam boards up to date.
Quality assuring tutoring delivery:
- Observe several virtual tutoring sessions a week. Make detailed and unbiased notes on tutor skills, craft empathetic constructive feedback in emails.
- Support our programme delivery team to craft communications and feedback to tutors.
- Produce ‘quality tips’ and resources for tutors and staff.
- Work with Action Tutoring’s volunteer engagement team to feedback trends so that the quality assurance process at the tutor application stage is as strong as possible.
Delivering volunteer tutor training:
- Support the Training Manager by delivering up to four virtual initial tutor training sessions a week during peak months, presenting Action Tutoring’s established training content.
- Support the Training Manager by contributing updates to tutor training content.
- Create content for tutor CPD materials to support with maths tutoring.
Person specification
Qualifications criteria:
- Qualified secondary school teacher of Mathematics
- At least two year’s teaching experience in English state schools with an understanding of the barriers facing disadvantaged pupils

We are looking for some of the following attributes, though you might be more experienced in some areas than others:
- Experience designing and formatting curriculum resources to support learning, either for print or digital use
- Experience as a private, school-based or volunteer tutor
- Evidence-based knowledge of how children and adults learn online compared to in person
- More than two years’ experience in the classroom
- Provided coaching or mentoring to trainee teachers
- Experience as a GCSE maths examiner
- Willingness to learn and become confident in the KS2 maths curriculum
- Understanding of the different pedagogical approaches required in small-group learning compared to classroom teaching, with a robust understanding of tutoring as a mechanism for supporting pupil personalised learning
- Able to communicate pedagogy in jargon free, accessible ways to non-specialists
- Empathetic and skilled at providing feedback in a sensitive but constructive way
- Experience delivering training or CPD to adults with energy and confidence, able to engage attendees, facilitate discussion and manage time effectively
- Experience and confidence using Zoom technology (or similar) to deliver training, making the best use of its functions to improve the training experience.
- Organised with strong time-management skills, able to independently manage a varied range of tasks and responsibilities
- Good attention to detail with administrative tasks, able to follow instructions well with a working understanding of the importance of data privacy
- Adaptable and open to learning with a passion for self-improvement, proactively seeking opportunities to develop and upskill
You will be likely be more successful in this role if you have:

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Knowledge Team, working alongside two existing Research Associates and a Data Analyst.
You will be integral in delivering research, data, and insights that support organisational development and programme delivery across NYA.
We are looking for an experienced mixed-methods researcher with a strong understanding of social research and evaluation approaches. Ideally, you will have experience working in or alongside the youth sector and be confident using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
You’ll need to be flexible, proactive, and a strong communicator, able to explain complex ideas to varied audiences.
This role is ideal for someone looking to make a tangible difference through evidence-led approaches that shape policy, practice, and impact in youth work.
Key responsibilities for this role will include:
- Designing and delivering research projects using a range of methods including surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
- Supporting the development of the NYA research and data hub, including external research collation and data visualisation.
- Leading on evaluations to meet funder requirements and contribute to NYA’s growing evidence base.
- Analysing data from NYA programmes to support impact measurement.
- Promoting evidence-based practice across NYA and the wider youth sector.
- Communicating findings clearly through reports, briefings, and presentations.
- Managing research projects and collaborating with internal and external partners to deliver on time and to quality.

The School:
Merchant Taylors’ School is a large Independent Boys’ School, situated in 280 acres of parkland in Northwood, Middlesex. The School was founded in 1561, is owned by the Merchant Taylors’ Educational Trust and moved to its present site in 1933. There are four distinct boys’ day schools on campus. The Nursery, the Pre-Prep & the Prep cater for 370 boys, while the Senior School has over 960 pupils. The Senior School employs over 110 teachers and 160 Support staff across Merchant Taylors’ School.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Fundraising
· Developing and innovating the school’s regular giving programme, the Merchant Taylors’ Fund, to ensure a consistent income stream and increased participation from alumni, parents and friends.
· In conjunction with external consultants, running our (currently) biennial telephone fundraising campaigns and Giving Days.
· Liaising with school departments, clubs and societies to identify exciting projects to motivate supporters.
· Segmenting and targeting recipients for appeals to ensure the greatest impact and returns.
· Devising the strategy for promoting legacy giving as a means of supporting Merchant Taylors’, and to implement this strategy to increase the number of known legacy pledges to the school.
Stewardship
· Establishing and running a comprehensive benefactor stewardship programme that thanks and stewards donors at all levels, including legacy pledges, through regular communication and events.
Reporting
· Reporting on progress against all objectives to the Development and Alumni Relations Sub-Committee of Governors.
· Where appropriate, working with the Development Executive (Events and Communications), to produce benefactor report publications and contribute to other Development publications.
· Ensuring that all contact with OMTs and parents is recorded on the Development Office’s database, the Raiser’s Edge.
