We are seeking a compassionate, visionary, and strategic Chief Executive Officer to lead Mermaids through the next stage of its evolution, dedicated to improving the lives of gender-diverse children and young people, and those who are important to them. Service Delivery:
• Provide strategic and operational leadership across all service delivery areas, including support line services, group work,  advocacy, external communications, and policy.
• Ensure services are high quality, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of trans and gender-diverse children, young people and the special people in their lives.
• Lead the continuous improvement and development of service delivery models, ensuring impact, effectiveness, and alignment with the charity’s mission.
• Champion a culture of safeguarding, accountability, and young person-centred practice throughout all service delivery. 
• Act as the organisation’s Safeguarding Lead, with oversight of on-call, safeguarding training, and ensuring appropriate escalation mechanisms are in place.
• Oversee the design and implementation of advocacy and policy activities, ensuring the charity’s voice is informed by lived 
experience and is impactful at local and national levels.
• Act as a visible and hands-on leader for frontline teams, providing support, supervision, and inspiration to staff and 
volunteers.
• Monitor performance, outcomes, and feedback to ensure services are meeting objectives and delivering positive change 
for beneficiaries.

Governance:
• In partnership with the board of trustees, set and articulate our vision, mission and strategy, and keep this under continual 
review.
• Lead the development and implementation of Mermaid’s strategic plan, ensuring sustainability and growth.
• Liaise with the board of trustees to ensure the charity’s governance, structure, policies and procedures are appropriate 
and effective, taking remedial measures and implementing change as necessary. This includes supporting board 
development.
• Work closely with the Chair and Board of Trustees to support strong governance and informed decision-making.
• Provide accurate and timely reporting on organisational performance, risks, and impact.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory guidance and legislation, including the Charity Commission and the Fundraising 

Finance & Fundraising:
• Working with the Chief Operating Officer and the Board of Trustees, ensure Mermaids has robust, deliverable fundraising 
and finance strategies in place, and subsequent action plans are embedded throughout the organisation to support their 
delivery.
• In partnership with the Chief Operating Officer, ensure Mermaids has robust finance, HR, IT, data privacy and governance processes and procedures are embedded.

People and Culture:
• Line manage senior staff including the COO and service delivery managers.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, inclusive internal culture that values lived experience and wellbeing.
• Continue work to embed a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion across the organisation, as well as a focus on accessibility.
• Work to define and drive trans-centred leadership across the organisation, including ensuring that the organisation is a trans-positive, supportive employer.

External Engagement and Advocacy:
• Represent Mermaids publicly, including acting as the key spokesperson and strategic policy stakeholder, ensuring 
organisational awareness of the external landscape and the changing needs of trans children, young people and their 
families, and advocating for these needs to be met.
• Lead communications strategy, and lead press engagement by responding to media inquiries, interviews, press conferences and media events.
• Lead on stakeholder engagement, including with funders, supporters, community partners, and policy influencers.
• Advocate for the rights and needs of trans and gender-diverse children, young people and the significant others in their lives at a national level.

As a Waking Night Mental Health Recovery Worker at Hestia, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals within our Mental Health and Complex Needs service, helping them move towards greater empowerment and independence. You will be responsible for a caseload of clients, using person-centred planning and recovery-focused approaches to support their health, wellbeing, and ability to sustain tenancies. Your work will involve building on each individual's strengths to help them achieve personal goals and aspirations, while reducing the risk of hospital readmissions. You will work collaboratively with external agencies involved in clients' care, promote access to health services, education, training, and employment opportunities, and ensure service users are actively engaged in inclusive activities and skill-building. In addition, you will support the Team Manager in monitoring performance against key performance indicators (KPIs), contributing to the overall success and quality of the service.

You will be able to work effectively in a structured, busy, and sometimes high-pressure environment, demonstrating resilience and adaptability. A willingness to work unsociable hours, including early, late, overnight (sleep-in), and weekend shifts as part of a rota, is required. Additionally, you will have sound knowledge of safeguarding practices and the ability to respond to concerns appropriately, along with proficiency in IT applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

The Community Energy Adviser will deliver energy support sessions in local communities, empowering individuals and families through workshops and one-to-one support. The role

In this role you will be:

· Planning and delivering engaging and informative energy support workshops within local communities, tailoring content to meet the diverse needs of attendees.

· Providing one-to-one support to individuals requiring more in-depth assistance, including conducting home energy assessments and offering tailored advice.

· Collaborating with local organisations and stakeholders to identify and reach out to communities and individuals who would benefit most from energy advice and support.

· Developing and distributing educational materials on energy saving, bill management, and the benefits of renewable energy sources.

· Tracking and evaluating the impact of community sessions and one-to-one interventions, adjusting strategies to improve outreach and support effectiveness.

· Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of energy sector developments, including changes in legislation, available grants, and best practices in energy conservation.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join the Employee Relations and Union Services in the CSP as a full time Senior Negotiating Officer (SNO) for the South East Coast. This is a challenging, but very enjoyable role which will see you:

- Supporting, advising and training the network of stewards, safety representatives and equality representatives in the South East Coastal region.

About the role

We’re looking for a Learning and Development Coordinator (known internally as People Development Coordinator) with either experience in learning and development and/or a strong interest in building a career in the field to join our People Development Team

You’ll support the team in the coordination of internal and externally commissioned learning and development activities, working closely within the team, your departmental colleagues, and internal subject experts on a wide range of subjects and topics that are core areas for our workforce. You will maintain and continually improve our course evaluation, record keeping, and administrative processes, and bring new ideas and solutions to improve efficiency and measure impact. By supporting the wider charity with corporate induction and activities that help the workforce to drive their own development, you will play a key role in ensuring our people are supported to be the best they can be and maximise their talents for the benefit of children and young people with cancer.

This is a part-time role (21 hours a week). This is a hybrid role which can be home-based, hybrid or office-based (Bristol), with some flexibility depending on the post holder.

What will I be doing?

No two days are the same at Young Lives vs Cancer. So, summarising your ‘day to day’ isn’t easy. Here are some of the main things you’ll be doing, but you’ll find more details in the job description.

• Promoting the 70:20:10 model and providing the appropriate resources and signposting to enable our workforce to proactively drive their own development.
• To promote and support the use of new and existing learning and development tools and opportunities to enable people to develop themselves.   
• To work closely with the rest of the People Development team, People and Culture business partners and internal client base to coordinate and commission high-quality, value for money learning opportunities which further Young Lives vs Cancer’s ability to reach our strategic goals. 
• Create, maintain, and develop learning and eLearning resources in collaboration with appropriate subject matter experts across the charity.

Age UK's award-winning Individual Marketing team is currently recruiting for a Senior Direct Marketing Executive to join our acquisition sub-team. This role is responsible for ensuring we acquire new donors to the charity via multiple offline channels including TV, flyers, door drops and face to face.

What the job involves

We’re looking for a Risk Information Officer to join our Health Services, Equity and Improvement Directorate, to sit within the Clinical Services team (consisting of the Specialist Nurse service and Risk Information Service). We deliver a wide range of high-quality services directly to anyone affected by prostate cancer or prostate problems, as well as supporting a range of charity-wide activity.

As Risk Information Officer, you’ll deliver the charity’s Risk Information Service, providing information and support to men at risk of prostate cancer, and their loved ones, via the telephone, email and social media. This is an exciting time to join the team as we anticipate a decision from the National Screening Committee on a prostate cancer screening programme in autumn 2025.

This is a non-clinical role, but you’ll discuss service users’ risk of prostate cancer along the lines of the predominant risk factors (age, ethnicity, family history and BRCA gene status). You’ll also be able to help men make an informed decision about PSA testing by discussing the test’s advantages and limitations and informing them how to access a PSA blood test through their GP. You’ll work closely with the Specialist Nurses to ensure people who need more complex clinical information are supported.

You’ll also discuss the charity’s upcoming TRANSFORM trial and how Prostate Cancer UK is working hard to improve the current landscape and reduce some of the barriers men face around prostate cancer.

You’ll play a key role in developing the Risk Information Service, contributing to conversations and decisions around how to adjust and improve it. You’ll also report back on your work, to help the charity develop its broader understanding of information and support needs when it comes to prostate cancer risk and the PSA blood test.

Reporting into the Clinical Services Senior Officer, you’ll have close and regular contact with assigned Specialist Nurses so that you feel at ease in sharing prostate cancer related information with callers, and in maintaining the boundaries and scope of the service day-to-day. This is a fixed term role until the end of October 2026 covering an internal secondment. 

What we want from you

You’ll be a compassionate and resilient communicator; you may be speaking to callers who may be anxious about their risk of prostate cancer. You’ll be a great listener, hearing callers’ concerns and offering a supportive and empathetic response. Although this is a non-clinical role, a strong understanding of the UK healthcare system and a good working knowledge of urology (for example, an understanding of prostate cancer and the PSA blood test) would be an advantage.

You’ll be comfortable in handling more complex conversations, but with the self-awareness to recognise your limitations in offering support and recognising clear boundaries of guidance being provided and be able to direct to our Specialist Nurses when needed. 

Experience in using a CRM system will be advantageous in this role and any experience with a helpline or providing support or information over the phone will be beneficial.

About the role 

The Campaign & Programme Lead: Climate & Health supports health workers to campaign for just and proportionate action on climate change, working closely with our Movement Organiser and other colleagues. Currently our work focuses on the intersection of climate and housing, working to end the public health crisis of fuel poverty and poor-quality homes. In particular this role is responsible for national advocacy and campaigning on fuel poverty and housing, supporting members to organise in their local communities, and being a key part in the Homes for Health campaign team.

The role involves holding Medact’s key knowledge base on climate and health issues. You will build relationships across the health community and wider climate movement, from establishment institutions to frontline workers and grassroots groups. 

About you

This is a skilled role but you don’t need to have had a job in an NGO before or be a professional campaigner to be right for it. You might have worked with your local community to campaign on a social justice or health issue that you care about. Or, you might be a health worker who has seen the impact of these issues on your patients and wants to challenge the systems that drive inequity and marginalisation. 

You’ll have a strong understanding of power and how to work with others to create pressure for change. You need to be a great communicator, able to build trusting relationships with Medact members, academics, partner organisations and community groups. You’ll have an understanding of how digital communications compliment campaigning and an eye for a good media story.
