St John Ambulance

Director of Fundraising

Location: Base anywhere in England but must be able to travel to London around twice a month.

Salary: Up to £100,000 per annum, depending on location.
Contract: Permanent

St John Ambulance, the nation’s leading first aid charity, is seeking a Director of Fundraising to lead their ambitious plans to expand their supporter base.

Throughout its history, St John Ambulance has always stepped forward in the moments that matter to save lives and support communities. Every year the charity trains 250,000 people in first aid, educates 10,000 young people through youth programmes and mobilises 40,000 volunteers to offer first aid cover in their communities. During the COVID-19 pandemic they stepped up even further to protect the nation’s health, providing 5,000 volunteers to support the NHS with emergency response and training 27,000 volunteers to deliver 25% of the nation’s vaccinations.

The charity is now seeking a Director of Fundraising to help them realise their new 10 year strategy to reach more communities and more young people, and to focus increasingly on health inequalities, increasing charitable income from £15 million a year to £30 million. The role will sit on the Executive Leadership Team and will lead on the development, growth and delivery of public fundraising. Working with one of the most trusted brands in Britain this will be an opportunity to capitalise on the enormous implicit public support for St John and turn this into active support from individual supporters, major donors, trusts, foundations and corporates.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable track record in a senior role in fundraising and new income generation, bringing increased net value to their organisation. You will also have proven experience of building and leading high performing teams, nurturing and leading people to deliver success together. You will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence effectively at all levels, and you will support our values of Humanity, Excellence, Accountability, Responsiveness and Teamwork.
