Age UK Hammersmith and Fulham is seeking a dynamic person as our next Chair. Building on recent success you will ensure our Board delivers its strategy for local people working closely with our Chief Executive.
What will you be doing?
In addition to the general responsibilities of a Trustee, the duties of the Chair include the following.
- Providing leadership to the organisation and the board by ensuring that everyone remains focused on the delivery of the organisation’s charitable purposes in order to provide greater public benefit
- Chairing and facilitating board meetings
- Giving direction to board policy-making
- Checking that decisions taken at meetings are implemented
- Representing the organisation at functions and meetings, and acting as a spokesperson as appropriate
- Bringing impartiality and objectivity to decision-making
With the Chief Executive:
- Planning the annual cycle of board meetings and other general meetings where required, for example annual general meeting
- Setting agendas for board and other general meetings
- Developing the board of trustees including induction, training, appraisal and succession planning
- Addressing conflict within the board and within the organisation, and liaising with the chief executive (if staff are employed) to achieve this
- Where staff are employed:
- Liaising with the chief executive to keep an overview of the organisation’s affairs and to provide support as appropriate
- Leading the process of supporting and appraising the performance of the chief executive
- Sitting on appointment and disciplinary panels
What are we looking for?

Term

Remuneration

Time Commitment
The Chair role requires an estimated commitment of 15–18 days per year. This includes preparing for and attending four Board meetings annually, each held at their London office; participating in occasional extraordinary or quarterly sub-committee meetings; holding regular meetings with the Chief Executive; and representing the Foundation at key events or external engagements.

Friends of Bennerley Viaduct (FoBV) is a community organisation based in Derbyshire formed in 2015 with the purpose of safeguarding the Bennerley Viaduct Grade II* listed structure and its surrounding environment. Since 2019, when the organisation became a CIO, it has grown thanks to funding which led to the building of full access onto the viaduct, a new visitor centre and café and the development of an activity programme encompassing both formal and informal learning.

The Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum (NNRF) is a £1m+ community-based charity providing advice and support to individuals and families who seek asylum or live as refugees. The Forum is a key partner of Nottingham City Council, and its work spans a number of separate programmes, much of which is delivered from our building and cafe in the heart of the city.
What exactly does the Forum do?
- We believe in a future where people are treated fairly and compassionately, and where everyone has the chance to feel safe and live with dignity.
- Working in partnership with others, our focus is on helping refugees and asylum seekers to rebuild their lives and to help with their immediate needs. We do this by providing a welcoming community centre, and by offering a range of support services and programmes, including impartial advice, advocacy and signposting.
We are seeking to appoint several Trustees during 2025, each on an initial 3-year term and applications are welcome from any background. In common with many organisations in this sector, people from ethnic minority backgrounds and those with lived experience of the asylum system are underrepresented on our Board at this time. Applicants who have governance experience, for example in schools or local government, or who may be working in a legal/HR role may be of interest. However, the most important attribute is that you have the energy, time and interest necessary to support the Forum’s work. Candidates will be appointed solely on a defined selection criterion, ensuring that ethnicity plays no role in the decision-making process.
The role of our Trustees is vital to what we do and it means that you can support those seeking refuge to re-establish themselves in a new country. The Board of Trustees has the ultimate authority and responsibility for directing and governing the organisation. Being a Trustee can be a hugely rewarding experience - it offers a fantastic development opportunity, the chance to make a positive impact, to build new relationships and to gain experience in charity operations. As a Trustee you will be able to use your knowledge, skills and experience and have a direct influence over a cause you care about. You will also get free access to a range of Board-level learning resources, including articles, webinars and national networking events.
These are voluntary roles, with meetings usually set for after normal working hours. Swansea Community Workshops
The Board of Trustees are looking to recruit a knowledgeable and experienced individual for the voluntary role of Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees. The main activity at Swansea Community Workshops (SCW) is to provide facilities for hobbies, recreation, and leisure time occupation in a socially interactive and practical environment, where there are skills sharing, learning of new skills, and helping community-based projects. Role Overview
Title: Vice-Chair (Voluntary) Reports to: Board of Trustees.

About MEAM
Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM) is the national charity dedicated to transforming services and systems for people facing multiple disadvantage, including homelessness, mental ill health, substance use, and contact with the criminal justice system. We work with local areas, policymakers, and people with lived experience to drive meaningful, lasting change.
Established in 2009 as a coalition of Clinks, Collective Voice, Homeless Link, and Mind, MEAM collaborates with over 50 local areas across England to improve responses and change lives for people experiencing multiple disadvantage.
We offer hands-on support, consultancy, and training to local cross-sector partnerships, helping them design and deliver better-coordinated services. Central to MEAM’s work is the MEAM Approach, a framework that guides local areas in creating sustainable, systemic change through principles such as partnership, co-production, and flexible service responses. By working alongside practitioners, policymakers, and people with lived experience, MEAM strives to address the root causes of multiple disadvantage and promotes equitable access to support services.
In January 2025, MEAM transitioned from its coalition structure to operate as an independent charity, with our founding partners continuing to serve on the board, reinforcing our collective commitment to collaborative and intersectional approaches in tackling complex social challenges.
About the roles
As a Trustee on the board of MEAM, you will play a pivotal role in guiding the charity through the next phase of growth and development.
Working closely with the Chair and the rest of the board, you will provide strategic leadership, ensuring MEAM continues to drive systemic change for people facing multiple disadvantage.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape the direction of a national organisation dedicated to improving services, systems and policies at both local and national levels.
As a Trustee, you will be instrumental in strengthening MEAM’s long-term sustainability and expanding our reach. Your leadership will help our team drive systemic change, influence national policy, and create more equitable, trauma-informed systems.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking individuals who can complement the current board by bringing a range of skills and experience. In particular, we are keen to hear from individuals whose skills and experience relate to one or more of the following areas:
- Lived experience of multiple disadvantage (with an interest in using this expertise alongside other skills to support and inform change)
- Public sector and commissioning expertise (for example, experience in local or national government, housing, homelessness, health, public health, mental health, substance misuse, domestic violence or criminal justice)
- Commercial expertise in a social context (for example, experience in social or public sector consultancy and training, social enterprise or mission-driven business)
All candidates should have a knowledge of one or more sectors related to our work, share our passion of working for, and with, people experiencing multiple disadvantage, and have knowledge of our systemic and intersectional approach.

About the Minster Centre
The Minster Centre is is a registered charity that provides training in psychotherapy and counselling and an affordable therapy service. It is approaching its 50th anniversary and was founded in 1978 as the first Integrative psychotherapy and counselling training in the UK. Now based in Queens Park, NW London, it runs training ranging from open access introductory courses to post-graduate degrees and provides a safe and affordable counselling service to people over the age of 18 who are experiencing a range of difficulties. The Centre is seeking a Treasurer to join its lively and diverse Board of Trustees. This is a voluntary role.
The Treasurer role
As well as fulfilling the duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer maintains an overview of The Minster Centre’s financial affairs. The Treasurer ensures that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are in place and reports to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. The Treasurer will work closely with the Head of Finance, the Chair and the Management Committee.
Key responsibilities
- Ensuring the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees.
- Ensuring that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
- Ensuring that robust and comprehensive financial policies are in place and being implemented, and supporting the development of policies covering financial reserves, and cost management.
- Monitoring and advising the Board on the financial viability of the charity.
- Overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems, regularly liaising with the Head of Finance.
- Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process
- Ensuring investments and assets are maximised.
- Leading on the appointment of and liaison with external auditors.
- Overseeing the development and implementation of systems for appraising, mitigating and reporting corporate risk.
- Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies; the Charity Commission, Companies House and the Office for Students.
- Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities and liaising with the Chair, Head of Finance and the Management Committee to develop the financial understanding of the Board of Trustees.

In addition to the above, the Treasurer will also have the responsibilities and qualities of all trustees.
The Trustee Role
The Board of Trustees provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Centre as it seeks to fulfil its charitable objects, ensuring it operates in accordance with its governing document and meets its legal and regulatory requirements.
The Board of Trustees meets six times a year (January, April, June, July (full day), September and November) and are online aside from the full day meeting which is normally in person. Additional work on specialist working groups or committees is also undertaken, depending on Trustees’ personal interests, experience and availability. Trustees normally serve for a term of three years in the first instance but can stand for re-election up to a maximum of nine years.
Under the provisions of our governing document the Board can consist of a minimum of 7 trustees and a maximum of 14. The Board is made up of:
- Up to 11 independent Trustees (elected by Minster Centre Members (alumni and psychotherapists who maintain their UKCP registration through the Centre)
- a member of staff elected by the staff
- a student, on a course at The Minster Centre extending over more than one year, elected by students attending a course extending over more than one year
- the Director

Qualities needed
We are seeking Trustees who are enthusiastic about The Minster Centre’s work and values, who understand the distinction between management and governance and can operate as an effective trustee across the range of subject matters that will be considered by the Board.
For the role of Treasurer we are seeking:
- A finance professional - Qualified accountant with Membership of a professional accountancy organisation. A knowledge of charity finance is an advantage, otherwise an enthusiasm to learn, drawing from sound commercial experience and an understanding of SMEs.
- A strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity.
- A clear communicator with the ability to bring the financial information alive to non-finance specialists.
- Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, liaising with auditors
- Able to provide effective support and challenge to the management team and other Trustees
- Experience of fundraising and finance practices in the charitable or voluntary sector (including understanding of charity SORP) would be an advantage
- Commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership
