Role title: Trustee
Location: Flexible (travel to London will be required at least three times a year for in person board meetings)
Salary: N/A (Volunteer role)
Time commitment: Attend 3 in person board meetings annually and 3 online sub committees. Exceptional board or sub-committee meetings may be scheduled when necessary.
Contract: The Trustee is appointed for an initial 3-year term with the option of renewal for up to 3 terms. The maximum term for all trustees (including the Chair) is 9 years.
Purpose of the role:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to join an impact-focused and ambitious charity supporting refugees to access meaningful employment and build a new life.
The board’s role is to govern Breaking Barriers effectively, in service of our vision and mission. Trustees provide support and challenge to the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and are ambassadors for the charity.
Essential Duties of the Trustee Role:
- Ensure Breaking Barriers is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
- Comply with Breaking Barriers' governing document and other laws that apply
- Act in Breaking Barriers' best interests: prioritise Breaking Barriers' objectives, avoid conflicts of interest, and follow procedures to manage any conflicts

Person Specification:
We are seeking board members with a passion for the mission, vision and values of Breaking Barriers, and a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Trustee commitment and responsibilities
All Trustee positions are voluntary with reasonable expenses remunerated.

Members of our Audit, Risk and Compliance committee additionally meet two weeks before each board meeting for finance and regulation focused discussions with the Executive team.

Military Wives Choirs connect over 1700 women in the military community and create a support network through the power of singing. Our Data and Technology Trustee will contribute strategic advice on how MWC manage their technology and data to be compliant, minimise risks to the organisation and to keep up to date with, and take advantage of, developments in a way that recognises the budget and the scale of the organisation. Purpose
Young Carers’ Crew is a registered charity (number 1176778) and runs a group which meets to provide emotional and practical support to Young Carers through recreational activities. We give support to local children and young people, who perform a caring role supporting another member of their household.
Young Carers’ Crew is a small grassroots community group. We are hoping to bring in more people with diverse skills and experience to build sustainability.
We are looking for Volunteer Trustees with a range of skills, to help steer and direct the organisation.
The Board of Trustees takes on the ultimate legal and financial responsibility for all the activities of the organisation. Role Description

Professionals Aid Guild (PAG) is seeking a new Trustee to join a well-established charity based in London to assist with ongoing and future strategic development. A background in Education or Social Welfare would be desirable.
Using your experience, skills and knowledge, as Trustee you will be;
- Contributing actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation,

As a Trustee for PAG you will make a difference to professionals throughout UK. Examples of our beneficiaries could include a family struggling to afford school uniforms for their children, a cancer sufferer who has had to give up work and is struggling to manage financially, a medical student whose funding has failed, or a single parent who has moved to a new home and needs assistance with the cost of furniture – these are all areas in which PAG has assisted and continues to assist.
Some case studies below demonstrate the real impact that the charity has;
- Mrs B accumulated large debts when she lost her job and was unable to obtain further loan or credit. She was awarded a one-off gift of £500 towards travel for the final year of her MSc/Diploma from PAG’s Education Committee. Mrs B wrote “I am lost for words to express my gratitude for the received cheque. I would like to say thank you for helping me to every person involved. It will truly make a big difference to my life.”
- Ms E left the family home due to domestic violence and subsequently divorced, she has one son, who is in employment and who contributes to the household income, and one daughter, who is at school. Mrs E is not currently employed; she has completed a Diploma and hopes to find paid employment soon. She was awarded a grant by the Case Committee and a further award for her daughter’s education from the Education Committee. Ms E wrote “I just wanted to thank you all for helping my family and I. I truly feel grateful and supported by PAG. I really don’t know how I would have coped over the years with so many different events that have happened to in my life. Thank you once again.”

With our new strategy launching this summer, we’re looking for three new Trustees to join our dedicated Board and help drive our next phase of growth and impact.

Founded in 1970, we have grown into a national organisation supporting over 22,000 children, young people and families each year across England.

About the role
We are seeking an exceptional leader to join our committed Board of Trustees as we enter a pivotal phase of our strategy. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of an organisation that changes lives every day.
The Treasurer will provide vital financial leadership and oversight, working closely with the Board, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive, to ensure Kids operates on a sustainable financial footing while maximising our impact for disabled children and families.
The Treasurer will chair our Finance and Audit Committee, working with external auditors and financial advisors to maintain the highest standards of financial accountability. You will play a key role in our sustainability strategy, helping to diversify income streams and build financial resilience.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a Treasurer with strong financial expertise and experience in senior financial roles, ideally with experience in the charitable or not for profit sectors.
Your understanding of charity governance will be essential. Knowledge of charity accounting standards and regulatory frameworks would be highly beneficial, particularly an understanding of regulated service environments with a clear grasp of compliance and governance requirements.
You will bring a collaborative approach to financial oversight, able to translate and interpret complex financial information in accessible formats that enable informed Board decision-making. Your strategic thinking will support our ambitious growth plans while maintaining financial awareness and accountability.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with a natural ability to build relationships. We seek a leader committed to equity, diversity and inclusion, ensuring these principles guide all our work.

Time Commitment:
The regular commitments include Board meetings, which are held four times a year in London in person, with an annual strategy away day every year. Our sub-committees typically meet online up to four times per year.
The overall time investment amounts to the equivalent of one to two days per month. Preparation time for meetings and decision-making is essential, with occasional visits to our services across England and representation at external events as appropriate.

WeSwim is a small charity in start-up mode which achieved charitable status from the Charity Commission in 2024 and currently has three Trustees on its Board.
Key Responsibilities
We are particularly seeking trustees who can lead in these priority areas:
Fundraising Leadership

Identify, lead and drive fundraising initiatives to secure sustainable financial resources for WeSwim

The Infection Prevention Society (IPS) is a UK-wide charity at the forefront of reducing avoidable infections and improving patient safety across health and care settings. We are now recruiting a non-member trustee to join our Board and help shape our commercial direction and future growth.
This is an important and unique opportunity. We are looking for someone who can bring commercial insight, strategic thinking, and a fresh, external perspective to support our mission. You will be joining a committed and multidisciplinary Board that includes infection prevention experts, clinical leaders, and senior figures from across the health and charity sectors.
We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Commercial strategy or business development

- Marketing, brand development, or digital strategy
- Income generation or diversification in the charity sector
- Innovation and growth
You do not need to be a clinician or work in infection prevention. In fact, for this role, you must not be a current member of the Infection Prevention Society. We are actively looking for someone external to the Society who can bring new ideas and different perspectives.
As a trustee, you will:
- Contribute to the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity
- Support our CEO and staff to deliver the IPS strategy and diversify income
- Help identify new commercial opportunities and strengthen external partnerships
- Provide constructive challenge and guidance to the Board and senior leadership
- Champion the Society’s work with external audiences and stakeholders
The time commitment is modest (around 6–8 hours per quarter) but the potential impact is significant. You will help shape a charity that is improving lives across the UK by working to prevent infections in healthcare, community, dental, veterinary, and built environment settings.
