PIP works mainly in the Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster communities to support adults with learning disabilities and autism. Our focus is on teaching and learning life skills so those we work with self-identify as PiP students. Ranging in age from 18 to 92, our average student is around 34 years old.
PiP students have a range of learning disabilities including Down's Syndrome, Fragile X, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), dual diagnosis with mental health problems and/or physical health conditions such as Diabetes and Epilepsy.

Role & Person Specification
As Chair your primary responsibilities will include:
- Chair meetings of the PIP Board of Trustees, providing leadership and support to the CEO including meeting regularly to discuss current issues
- Lead the board in the performance of their roles and scrutiny of PiP’s work
- Enable trustees to fully engage with their role, board sessions, and the organisation’s work
- Hold the CEO to account for the performance and financial sustainability of the charity and give appropriate support and challenge
- Oversee the strategic direction, financial management & performance of the organisation
- Provide leadership for the organisation
- Support in the income generation, communications, and community engagement of the organisation
- Lead on the appointment of trustees and CEO as required and ensure that posts receive appropriate induction, advice, training and information
- Ensure that PIP complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations

Time commitment

About the Role
We are looking for a Volunteer to assist in the running of our new Wednesday Evening Service programme of activities at Headway East London. The Evening Service is a new opportunity for people living with brain injury in the East London area to join our community.
Volunteering with us, you’ll get involved in the fun and creative activities going on at our Evening Service. Every week is different: you could help in our art studio, assist in the kitchen or take part in a music session. You’ll be supporting our members one-to-one and in groups. You don’t need any special skills or knowledge, we’ll give you the induction you need, and support is always on hand, with regular volunteer meetings, training sessions and supervision.
Main Duties
- To help Headway staff manage the activity programme for each member by offering one-to-one support or in small groups.
- To assist members with specific activities that prove challenging for them i.e., using computers, cooking, engaging in art activities.
- To initiate discussion, games or activities and encourage members to take part.
- To help floor staff around dinner time (food preps. setting up tables, dishing out and serving food).
- To assist with keeping the Headway centre safe, clean, and tidy all times by taking on tasks such as collecting and washing cups, tidying up resources' shelves, wiping tables before lunch etc…
- To inform floor staff about activities undertaken with members and any significant changes in mood or behaviour. To take members to social events and outings and being able to assist individuals needing to use a wheelchair.
- To undergo training as required and attend volunteer debriefs and supervision. To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.
Person Specification

Commitment

Training/Support
Each volunteer is given an induction which includes information on health & safety, fire precautions, confidentiality, equal opportunities, and a brief outline of the long-term effects of head injury.
As part of this role, you will receive ongoing support and you will have the opportunity to gain experience in Health and Social Care.

Coventry Cathedral is a living breathing space which welcomes worshippers, tourists, audiences and school children daily from near and far, either visiting or looking for a place of sanctuary. We have daily worship, and events taking place all year round, a busy tourist offer and a thriving education programme. All these activities are housed in the building coined the “new cathedral” built in 1962. The Cathedral is also custodian of its predecessor- a 12th century building, destroyed and ruined in the Blitz during Nov 1940. The site and story have risen to international recognition, becoming a symbol and example of reconciliation.
During 2023 the Cathedral (along with other English cathedrals) became a registered charity. This has seen changes made to our governance and this requires reinforcement and support as new processes become our normal way of working.
The Finance, Audit & Risk Committee (FAR) is a sub-committee of the Chapter (the board of trustees), and the chairperson of FAR is a member of Chapter. The committee has a membership of five non-executives, and meetings are attended ex-officio by the Dean of Coventry, the Chief Operating Officer, and the Chief Financial Officer.
In order to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the committee, members should be able to operate at a senior and strategic level, with experience of working (either paid or voluntarily) in an organisation at least at a middle management level. The ability to deal with figures and understand financial implications of decisions is essential, as is the ability constructively to challenge plans, reports and outline business cases before they progress for decision to Chapter as required.
FAR Committee schedules 10 meetings per year, but may meet less frequently with monthly reporting being provided by the finance team each month. Meetings usually last 1.5 – 2 hours. Members may be asked to assist with more time, for example when new auditors are due to be appointed, or when a challenging financial or audit issue emerges.

What is a Serving Community Team Fundraising Coordinator?
There is a SSAFA presence throughout the serving community, both in the UK and overseas. In many areas SSAFA have Serving Community Teams that offer financial, practical, and emotional support to serving personnel and their families. Each team is formed of a group of dedicated volunteers who make this possible.
Fundraising Coordinators are essential members of the Serving Community Team. They lead the development and delivery of a local fundraising plan. With the help of Fundraising Volunteers, this could include coordinating events, appeals, local grants or collections.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of SSAFA. We have been involving volunteers in supporting the Armed Forces community for more than 130 years. Our beneficiaries come from all backgrounds and age groups and the number of people contacting us for help rises each year.

What will you be doing?
Although every SSAFA Serving Community Team has different needs, below are the main activities of a Fundraising Coordinator:
- Planning and strategy: Leading the development of a local fundraising plan with support from the wider team, including the Engagement and Events Coordinator.
- Growing a team: Together with the Serving Community Team Volunteering Co-ordinator and SSAFA’s Regional Fundraising Manager, recruiting and supporting a group of fundraising volunteers to help deliver your fundraising ideas.
- Marketing: With help from SSAFA’s Marketing and Communications team creating eye-catching fundraising materials to support the annual fundraising plan.
- Reporting: Tracking and reporting on the success of fundraising activities and providing an annual report to SSAFA Central Office.

Community Driver
Community Driver Volunteers support the Actively Involved Team by driving people aged 55 and over or people under 55 with complex health needs, to various local locations.
Tasks: Community Driver Volunteers will drive our clients to nearby locations in West or North Kent using their own car. You could help with anything from shopping and social activities for clients with limited mobility. You are invited to join in on the social activities, although this is optional. Being able to get from A to B can be challenging for some of our clients who have health conditions or restricted mobility. As a Community Driver Volunteer, you will help support our mission to help clients live independently, and improve health and wellbeing. This role is really for those who enjoy driving, and are friendly, welcoming and supportive.
Date and time: This is flexible, we share a schedule of trips and you can select the ones you would like to do.
Place: Various – based around West and North Kent.
Transport: Own transport is essential. We will cover all travel expenses in your volunteering role.

Purpose of role:
Support the Nova Information, Advice and Guidance Programme team respond to the challenges and needs of the community enabling them to thrive.
Role Description:
This role will act to assist Advisors delivering support to people helping them improve skills for employment purposes. With the disruption of Covid-19, many households have been thrown into a continuum of health and financial challenges which have in some cases demotivated and reduced self-esteem. In the short-term our aim is to intensively support 30 RBKC individuals rediscover their potential, increase their confidence and assist them in reaching their potential through training, volunteering and longer-term secure meaningful paid employment.

Co-op Homes (CHS) is a housing association which owns some 300 properties across London and the South East. We're also a managing agent for 30 other community housing organisations and housing co-ops, providing services to over 2,000 residents. Our unique proposition lies in our ability to provide expert housing management services to housing co-operatives and other small, resident-led housing organisations, enabling them to maintain their autonomy.
Board member opportunities
CHS is governed by a Board of Management made up of paid members who meet regularly throughout the year to direct policy and make major decisions on housing matters. The Board is also responsible for ensuring that we are managed efficiently, effectively and in line with the requirements of the law, regulatory bodies, best practice and value for money.
We have an active Board, currently made up of five members, bringing a variety of skills and backgrounds. Our Chair has been in the role since 2021 and we appointed a new Managing Director within the last year.
We are now looking to recruit two new board members. One who can bring strategic finance expertise and another with building asset management experience.
- Strategic finance: As a provider, we offer a unique set of services that have particular challenges. We are looking for an experienced senior finance professional to help us balance the risks and benefits involved in relation to our portfolio and scrutinise our finances strategically for the longer term.
- Building asset management: We are looking for expertise in property management. This will include repairs and maintenance, health and safety legislation and regulations, strategic asset management and decarbonisation.
We would very much welcome applications from people who combine relevant expertise with lived experience of social housing or experience of living in a housing co-operative, as we know you would bring a unique insight to the role. For the same reason we would also welcome applications from minority groups.

What is a Serving Community Team Fundraising Coordinator?
There is a SSAFA presence throughout the serving community, both in the UK and overseas. In many areas SSAFA have Serving Community Teams that offer financial, practical, and emotional support to serving personnel and their families. Each team is formed of a group of dedicated volunteers who make this possible.
Fundraising Coordinators are essential members of the Serving Community Team. They lead the development and delivery of a local fundraising plan. With the help of Fundraising Volunteers, this could include coordinating events, appeals, local grants or collections.
What difference will you make?
Volunteers are the lifeblood of SSAFA. We have been involving volunteers in supporting the Armed Forces community for more than 130 years. Our beneficiaries come from all backgrounds and age groups and the number of people contacting us for help rises each year.
In order to keep providing support to those who need it most, we need Fundraising Coordinators who can shout about the impact of SSAFA, and inspire people to donate, support our mission and join our community.
What will you be doing?
Although every SSAFA Serving Community Team has different needs, below are the main activities of a Fundraising Coordinator:
- Planning and strategy: Leading the development of a local fundraising plan with support from the wider team, including the Engagement and Events Coordinator.
- Growing a team: Together with the Serving Community Team Volunteering Co-ordinator and SSAFA’s Regional Fundraising Manager, recruiting and supporting a group of fundraising volunteers to help deliver your fundraising ideas.
- Marketing: With help from SSAFA’s Marketing and Communications team creating eye-catching fundraising materials to support the annual fundraising plan.
- Reporting: Tracking and reporting on the success of fundraising activities and providing an annual report to SSAFA Central Office.

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours commitment per week across Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.

We are committed to our objective of building the employability skills of our service users. In the UK only 48% of people with mental health problems, and 17.6% of people with severe learning difficulties, are in employment, versus the national 75%. Mental health issues and learning disabilities can be financially debilitating and very isolating. In addition, those living with mental health problems often face complex and challenging issues ranging from wellbeing, managing the benefits system and finding accommodation. Good work and the right help make all the difference, and that’s what Phoenix is all about.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance, strategic direction and business continuity of the charity, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the Governing Document and legal and regulatory guidelines. Taking our responsibilities seriously requires a meaningful commitment and the ability to work as part of a small, friendly team.
Trustees bring different skills, experiences and perspectives, all really important and valuable in our work, ensuring a healthy approach and objective discourse. Previous board experience is not a pre-requisite, with a welcoming induction, mentoring and opportunity for training; we work as a team with a supportive approach.
