Lawyers Service
- Providing high quality services to our lawyers including identifying and recommending appropriate medical experts to clinical negligence solicitors; maintaining and developing the medical expert database. Routinely considering the Experts’ Protocol and ensuring that it remains relevant and fit for purpose.
Inquest Service
- Assessing cases for eligibility for AvMA’s pro bono Inquest Service according to AvMA’s criteria.
- Preparing cases for the coroner’s court to include sorting medical records; liaising with bereaved families by phone and in writing; researching medical literature; taking and preparing initial statements; liaising with the Coroner’s officer; securing appropriate disclosure documents; instructing counsel; assisting with preparation of bundles of documents for the hearing. Identifying general and specific patient safety issues; considering need for Prevention of Future Death Reports and or Action Plans.
- Attendance at pre-inquest hearings and inquest hearings with counsel and the family. This may involve travel and overnight stays. Out-of-pocket expenses are paid. Although overtime is not payable, time out of the office is recoverable in accordance with AvMA Time Off in Lieu (TOIL) policy. Attendance may also be required to attend partial remote hearings via Teams/Zoom
- Capturing and recording key data from inquests, securing feedback from clients.
- Working with Medico Legal Team Leader to ensure appropriate publicity on case outcomes where appropriate to include obtaining relevant client consents and that the case is written up for potential publication in AvMA’s Lawyer Service Newsletter
Advice & Information Service
- Providing advice, support and information to the public through written casework. This involves helping people affected by medical accidents to obtain an understanding of what has happened to them, their rights and the most appropriate option(s) for resolving their concerns and meeting their needs including referrals to panel solicitors.
Helpline
- Providing advice and assistance to the public on AvMA’s specialist helpline. Training will be given and in due course assisting the Helpline Development Officer to train helpline volunteers.
Other Duties
- To endorse and promote the objectives set out as part of AvMA’s five year strategic plan: AvMA's 5 Year Strategic Plan
- Junior Certification: Promoting the Certificate Competence Scheme (junior lawyer scheme) to include assessing applications received
- Feedback from clients: Working on the direction of ML Director and ML Team Leader to secure maximum feedback from clients on inquest and advice and information services

Leadership & Supervision
· Lead, supervise and motivate a team of LGBTQ+ Supported Housing Caseworkers
· Conduct regular supervisions, case reviews, and file audits in line with policy
· Identify and address poor practice with clarity and compassion
· Provide reflective supervision and annual appraisals focused on performance and wellbeing
· Promote a team culture of learning, accountability, inclusion and mutual respect
Resident Support & Casework
· Hold a reduced caseload of residents, delivering strengths-based housing support
· Conduct risk and needs assessments, and co-produce personalised support plans
· Collaborate with external agencies to meet residents’ health, legal, and housing needs
· Provide support around housing sustainment, safeguarding, mental health and community integration
· Offer crisis intervention and harm-reduction-based support where required
Operational Excellence
· Monitor service delivery to ensure it meets quality standards and funder outcomes
· Ensure timely and accurate recording, case management, and data entry
· Contribute to service reviews, evaluations and the development of improved working practices
· Support the Director of Services to innovate and expand the housing programme
Community and Partnership Working
· Represent Stonewall Housing at key forums and community events
· Build strong local relationships with statutory and voluntary sector partners
· Promote the service and act as an LGBTQ+ housing champion in the region
· Advocate on behalf of residents, particularly in relation to Part VII of the Housing Act, local allocations policies, and safeguarding frameworks
Person Specification
Essential Experience & Knowledge
· Lived experience of being LGBTQ+, or significant professional experience working with LGBTQ+ people
· Direct experience working in supported housing, homelessness or social care
· Sound working knowledge of homelessness law (Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017)
· Familiarity with Local Authority housing systems, allocations, and safeguarding processes
· Experience supporting vulnerable people with multiple and complex needs

Main tasks and responsibilities
Key areas of focus will include:
• Supporting young people, building and maintaining positive relationships with and recognizing their different needs and starting points. Have strong commitment to the values of acceptance and respect within youth work and being a positive role model. Encourage young people to take an active role in social action projects, youth voice and young leader activities
• Working together with the team in planning and delivery of full program offer, including evening youth club sessions and off-site educational visits, including to our outdoor centre in Cumbria with occasional over night stays. Be alert to issues of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring the welfare and safety of young people is promoted and prioritized. St. John's is a non-maintained specialist provision, working with autistic people, the majority of whom also have learning disabilities. The Role
With the support of the Head of Individual Giving you will be responsible for campaign planning, testing, creative development, researching content and images for new appeals, agency management and delivery, making sure that any appeal is run efficiently and effectively from start to finish.
Support acquisition activity including media/list selection, creative development and testing, optimising existing campaigns.
You will be supported in working to the existing budget but will be able to influence and input into future financial planning from the results of your campaign tests and your negotiation skills with our suppliers.
Assist with the development of in memory, legacy marketing and newsletter development.
The Candidate
Demonstrable experience in working on direct marketing campaigns for a charity.
Ideally experience of supporting direct mail, telemarketing, email and online campaigns.
Experience of using a fundraising database for charity CRM.
Proven copywriting, editorial and proofreading skills, with ability to tailor copy to the audience.

The Vacancy
The Independent Monitoring Service is seeking to recruit professionals with experience of working with children and vulnerable adults to the role of Independent Visitor in South & East Yorkshire, in particular, Doncaster, Sheffield and Rotherham.
The role of Independent Visitors is to provide visiting services on behalf of NYAS which are consistent with the National Quality Standards for Children’s Homes, Residential Special School Standards, Welsh National Minimum Standards, Health and Social Care Standards Scotland and CQC regulations. Background
The Maypole Project supports children and young people with complex medical needs and their families across the UK. Our vision is that all families with a child with complex medical needs will have access to our support from diagnosis, for as long as they need.
Our unique model provides emotional and wellbeing support through counselling and therapy services for parents/carers, siblings and other adults involved in caring for a young person with complex medical needs. We provide counselling and play therapy for children and young people with complex medical needs, a youth club, buddying and activity programmes which are also open to children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The Maypole Project has been providing vital services to families for over 21 years and is in an exciting phase of development. We are recruiting a qualified and experienced Child Therapist to meet the growing demand for support, and to grow and extend our provision to meet the needs of more families who would benefit from our unique model of support.
Overall purpose:
To provide appropriate, professional and responsive therapeutic support to children (the child/ren who have complex medical needs and/or their siblings) in 1:1 sessions through the integration of counselling with therapeutic creative and play skills.
Role responsibilities:
Children, who have been assessed by an experienced member of the project’s counselling team, and with parental consent, will be referred on to the post holder who will:
· Work to The Maypole Project Model of Support for children and young people, providing therapeutic support through an integration of counselling with therapeutic creative and play with a caseload as agreed, relative to hours at a minimum of 5 clients per 7 hour working day.
- Undertake The Maypole Project mandatory in-house training (20 hours)
- Attend a training update session at least once per annum
- Contact the client’s parent/guardian organising an initial 1:1 meeting with them to talk through the issues their child faces and agree the time, location and frequency of sessions in line with Maypole Support office guidelines/room availability where applicable.
· Set up and clear away the therapy room that has been tailored to each individual client’s needs.
- Attend monthly group supervision (2 hours)
- Complete client notes and The Maypole Project paperwork as required
- Liaise with their Line manager or the Clinical Supervisor in case of questions/difficulties
- Follow The Maypole Project policies and guidelines including staff code of conduct at all times.

Support:
You will have support from our Children and Young People’s Therapies service manager for clinical oversight and day-to-day issues and a supervisor for Clinical advice/direction. Attendance at monthly Clinical Supervision is mandatory.

About Shooting Star Children’s Hospices
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Family Support Team at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices provides specialist care and support to families who have a baby, child or young person with a life-limiting condition, or whose child has died. Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, our teams support families across Surrey, north-west London and south-west London from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.
About the role
Family Support Workers (FSW) are the frontline of our care. Each FSW holds a caseload of end-of-life and bereaved families. They get to know their families, and check-in regularly with phone calls and home visits and can provide enhanced emotional support where required through more regular contact and interventions. Our FSWs tell families about the many services they can access at Shooting Star, assess their needs and make recommendations to our multi-disciplinary team. They support families of different ethnicities and families living in poverty, helping our service be as accessible as possible.
Our FSWs work closely with our Therapists, Counsellors, Social Workers, Transition Team and our Care Events Team. Weekly MDT meetings bring the team together to think of ways to help families in crisis. The work is varied and creative, taking place at the hospices, in family homes and hospitals, allowing the support to be where the families need it. Our Family Support Workers are hugely appreciated by the families we support.
The ambition of our strategy is to ensure every family affected by a life-limiting condition, or the sudden death of a child, has access to the specialist care that they need. Day to day duties are:
- Being the on-site duty FSW, welcoming families on site, monitoring email inboxes and answering the Family Support Line.
- Helping with support groups and family events
- Providing on the spot emotional support, sometimes in a crisis where a calm and supportive response is required.
- Visiting newly bereaved families in their homes.
- Supporting families staying at our Christopher’s hospice (booked stays and end of life).
- Attending various locations over the course of a week: hospice, hospital, family homes.
- Building connections with families from different backgrounds, delivering culturally sensitive care.
- Helping safeguard families at risk of harm.
- Acting as an ambassador for Shooting Star’s Specialist Bereavement Service, supporting other care team members with their learning and delivery of the bereavement pathway, and continually seeking ways to improve what we offer families.

The hours are predominantly worked 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
