Do you want to use your skills to make it possible for people with myeloma, an incurable blood cancer, to live longer and better lives?

Myeloma UK is looking for a motivated and highly proactive Senior Policy Officer to join our Patient Advocacy team within the wider Research and Advocacy directorate. 

You will have experience in analysing, developing, and communicating complex policy issues, strong communication skills, and the ability to prioritise a fast-moving and wide-ranging workload.

You will also have experience working collaboratively and building relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. 

You will have the ability to present findings and recommendations to a range of audiences and produce high-quality succinct briefings in a timely fashion, underpinned by evidence.

Empathy and sensitivity are required to work closely with patients and their families and friends.

Experience in the health charity sector, public/patient engagement work, and working on the National Institute of Health Care Excellence (NICE) and Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) consultation processes would be beneficial but not essential.

About the role

As Senior Policy Officer you will be part of the Patient Advocacy team who work to ensure that the patient voice is heard and acted upon by UK and devolved nations healthcare policy decision makers. You will represent the charity externally including national meetings with senior healthcare decision makers.

Your role is vital to developing strategic approaches to health technology appraisals (HTA), regulatory pathways (MHRA), clinical development programmes (academic and industry clinical trials) and commissioning routes to broaden access to new myeloma drug therapies and diagnostic technologies.

You will apply your skills flexibly across key policy areas including access to treatment, patient voice, stakeholder engagement and general healthcare policy and work with colleagues in communications and fundraising to make sure our supporters and the wider myeloma community understand the positive impact we make.

Job Summary

We are looking for a creative, driven, and collaborative Communications, Engagement and Policy Manager to lead on internal and external communications and to deepen engagement with our members, stakeholders, and the wider community. This is a key role in growing our influence, raising awareness of our work, and supporting our mission to empower people with neuromuscular conditions. Your work will ensure that our user base remains actively engaged, well-informed, and central to our projects and campaign planning. You will oversee an Engagement Officer, Social Media Officer, and Campaigns and Advocacy Officer, working collaboratively to amplify our impact, strengthen user connections, and further our mission.

Key Responsibilities

1. User Engagement and Relationship Management

• Develop and implement strategies to enhance engagement with our users across projects, events, and online platforms, ensuring their voices are integral to our work.

• Work with the Engagement Officer to design and coordinate events, workshops, and other engagement activities, both in-person and online, that support community connection and provide valuable resources to users.

• Gather and analyse feedback from users to ensure our services, content, and campaigns remain relevant and responsive to their needs.

• Manage the CRM and membership of the charity in line with the membership policy.

 2. Content Creation and Communications

• Develop and implement a communication strategy for the organisation to set our key messages, approach and KPIs for engaging with individual, community and professional audiences as well as for internal communications.

• Support the Social Media Officer in developing and implementing a communications plan in particular focused on our social media based activities and content creation.

• Oversee and produce high-quality content for digital platforms, newsletters, reports, and publications that engage and inform our audience.

• Lead on creating and placing feature articles, policy briefings and press releases, and serve as the main media contact to ensure consistent, clear messaging. 

3. Policy, Campaigning, and Advocacy

• Work with the CEO to develop and implement, through the Policy and Campaigns Team, a campaigns strategy that responds to the needs of the neuromuscular community and creates positive, meaningful change for our community.

• Collaborate with the Campaigns and Advocacy Officer to formulate and promote evidence-based policy positions, engaging key stakeholders in government, healthcare, and related sectors.

• Support the Campaigns and Advocacy Officer to expand the Pathfinders advocacy service and drive referrals to the service.

• Represent the organisation at events, sector meetings, and forums to build our profile and increase our influence on policy issues relevant to our community.

 4. Team Leadership and Development

• Manage, support, and foster the professional growth of the Engagement Officer, Social Media Officer, and Campaigns and Advocacy Officer, building a collaborative and empowered team.

• Set team objectives and KPIs, monitor progress, and provide regular feedback to ensure alignment with organisational goals and impact.

5. Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Development

• Cultivate relationships with relevant stakeholders, including influencers, partner organisations, funders, policymakers, and the neuromuscular community.

• Work closely with the CEO to manage community partnerships, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and expanding opportunities for user engagement.

  6. Organisational management

• Support the CEO with the overall running of the organisation by attending meetings of the management committee as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, taking on additional tasks as agreed.

• Provide contingency support to the  Senior Leadership Team to cover essential tasks such as reporting hours to our payroll team in the event of staff absence.

• Maintain an overview of projects and teams across the organisation to provide short-term management and HR support in the event of staff shortages or incapacity.

• Review, approve and document payments in the charity using our software and finance process.

• Support the development of funding bids and project plans for introducing new projects.

• Represent the Senior Leadership Team at external events and in meetings with Trustees and Members.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public policy, engagement, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• 3-years experience in a communications, policy, or engagement role, ideally within a charity or non-profit setting.

• Experience engaging directly with user communities and developing outreach initiatives.

• Strong writing and editing skills with experience producing content for a variety of platforms including Youtube.

• Experience managing a small team to achieve strategic objectives.

• Knowledge of or strong interest in the healthcare, disability, or neuromuscular sector is desirable.

• Lived experience of a neuromuscular condition is desirable but not essential.

Skills and Attributes

• Strategic thinker with the ability to balance advocacy, engagement, and communication initiatives effectively.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build relationships across diverse audiences.

• Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise, and maintain high standards under tight timelines.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Children's Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (CHISVA) to join the team. As a CHISVA you will deliver 1-2-1 support to clients in the community across Lancashire and at criminal justice locations as well as supporting our digital delivery to groups such as to the parents of children affected by sexual abuse and violence.

About the role:

This role offers help and support directly to victims and survivors of sexual violence, working to the national ISVA framework to provide support throughout victims criminal justice journey, or if they haven't reported the incident to the police, on their own recovery journey.

The role involves regular travel across Lancashire, and supporting victims and survivors directly at criminal justice hearings. This role involves regular travel and due to the location, a driving license and access to a vehicle is considered an essential requirement. You will ensure victims and survivors receive ongoing continuity of support, advocacy and impartial advice and information including reporting to the police, accessing Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) services, and specialist support such as pre-trial therapy and sexual violence counselling. About the role:

We are looking for a Caseworker, to cover Wyre Fylde Lancaster and surrounding areas. You will be working primarily in targeted schools across your area and therefore this role involves regular travel and due to the location, a driving license and access to a vehicle is considered an essential requirement. • Completing assessments with young people, identifying and addressing and safeguarding concerns.
• Proactively targeting new schools to engage with the service in delivering group interventions.
• Responsible for case management, report writing, outcomes recording and collecting other data.

You will need: -

• Considerable experience of working with children and young people, experience of delivering groups would be advantageous.
• You will have a thorough understanding of the impact of Domestic Abuse on children and young people.
• Experience of risk assessment and case management.

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide operational leadership and oversight of the Carers Manchester Volunteer Programme and support the wider development of the Volunteer Programme at Gaddum. The Volunteer Coordinator will work with Carers Manchester colleagues to ensure volunteers feel equipped and supported to use their skills and lived experience in a range of established volunteer roles.

They will also work with the team to develop and recruit volunteers for new roles that support Carers Manchester to deliver on its aims and objectives. The role will involve maintaining close working relationships with our Central Team, Health & Safety systems, and compliance responsibilities. 

All staff are expected to work within all Gaddum policies and procedures. This role is subject to a basic DBS check.

Outreach teams work as the hands and feet of Causeway traveling out into the community and supporting service users. Outreach coordinators are organized and caring. They assist by supporting current advocates with their cases, offering guidance and instruction on safeguarding and complex cases. They will complete administrative duties in line with The Salvation Army Modern Slavery Contract, ensuring KPIs are met across the department. In addition to this they help to train and induct new advocates into the organisation.

Responsibilities:

Oversight of Staff:

• Management of advocates in the team. Including but not limited to: interviews, supervisions, appraisals and managing leave requests

• Line Management of Operations and Assurance Officer

• Leading team meetings

• Taking responsibility for training new starters and the ongoing training and coaching for the team and ensuring staff attendance at Mandatory training

• Assisting with month end reporting

• Monitoring Staff wellbeing and workload

• Be the first point of contact for your team

Oversight of Casework:

• Being the first point of contact for advocates queries including but not limited to; safeguarding incidents, issues and complex cases.

• Ensuring quality and consistency in advocates is upheld through quality checking and managing referral and exit checklists.

• Effectively managing risk across your team through supporting them with risk assessments and risk management.

• Being a point of contact for service user complaints when appropriate.

• Ensuring TSA KPI's and contractual deadlines are met within the relevant timescales.

• Work on a small amount of caseloads when necessary

Other responsibilities:

• Outreach ‘on call’ duties on average 1 week in 4.

• Keyholder for the office on average once per week.

• Complete relevant sections of the OR weekly baseline and OR model where needed along with other administration in line with ensuring internal and external KPIs are met within the department.

• Attending all relevant meetings (with OR Manager, other Coordinators, Sub team Meeting and Causeway Managers and Coordinators across all regions.)

• Assist the Service Manager with specific tasks or change management projects when required

We have an exciting opportunity for a Road Collision Caseworker to join the Dyfed Powys Victim Support team. You will be working 30 hours per week over 4 days and will need to live within the Dyfed Powys area. This role will involve regular travel to provide face to face support for families bereaved by road traffic collisions.

About the role:

Role summary

As Senior Manager for Humberside Women’s Centres you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing our centres and contract delivery in Humberside. Working closely with the Director of Services and supported by a senior key worker your focus will be on providing high quality, trauma-responsive support to women with experience of, or at risk of entering the criminal justice system.

You will lead on managing and delivering our contracts across Humberside to ensure our operational and strategic objectives are met. You will also focus on building excellent relationships with funders and key partners and identifying new partnership and advocacy opportunities.

Supported by a Senior Key Worker, your responsibilities will encompass the day-to-day management of our Women's Centres and contract delivery partners across various locations, including our Hull Women’s Centre, our Hubs in Goole, Beverley, and Bridlington, as well as partnerships in Grimsby and Scunthorpe. 

Managing a team of Key Workers, you will be responsible for ensuring women and girls receive an exceptional service from within a safe, trauma-responsive, women-only spaces. Working alongside our statutory and non-statutory partners in Criminal Justice and Health and Social Care, you will ensure the continued strategic development of the Women’s Centre and represent Together Women at local and regional level.

Your responsibilities will also include identifying and pursuing new funding opportunities, and ensuring the continuity of existing services through effective contract management. As a forward-thinking individual, you will contribute to the wider strategic direction of the organisation as part of the senior management team, which will entail submitting high-quality monitoring reports to funders, line and team management, and contributing to the ongoing development of the vision, mission and values of Together Women.

Key accountabilities

 

Humberside service delivery

 

· Provide strategic and operational management for Together Women’s services across Humberside, including our Hull Centre and our Goole, Beverley and Bridlington Hubs.

· Lead on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of our work across Humberside, and embed Together Women’s values across everything we do.

· Ensure all TW policies and procedures, including safeguarding are implemented, overseeing appropriate staff training and support.

 

People management

 

· Effectively manage a dispersed team, promoting collaboration, cohesion and consistency in delivery and approach, and promote a great workplace culture.

· Line manage direct reports, ensuring all staff receive regular support, supervision and performance review, case management support, and training and development.

Contracts and partnerships

 

· Lead and manage our statutory and non-statutory contract delivery partners.

About the role:

• Preparing compelling, tailored proposals to inspire significant philanthropic gifts.
• Analyse donor trends and provide insights to enhance major donor fundraising strategies.
• Maintain a pipeline of prospects and manage a calendar of funding applications and deadlines.
• Strong relationship-building skills with funders and internal stakeholders.
• Ability to craft persuasive funding applications.

Hours of work: The basic hours of work are 35 hours, Monday – Friday
