Metabolic Support UK is the leading organisation for people living with inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs) and their families. We provide expert support and advocacy, champion research, and work with health services and policy-makers to ensure people with IMDs and their families get the care they need and deserve. 

The Role 

We are looking for a curious and committed Research & Policy Officer to help us build the evidence base to improve the lives of people affected by IMDs. Reporting to the Head of Insight & Advocacy, you will play a key role in delivering our research projects, keeping tabs on relevant policy developments, and helping shape our responses to consultations. 

Key Responsibilities 

Research (under supervision of the Head of Insight & Advocacy): 

• Support the design, planning, and delivery of qualitative and quantitative research projects 

• Conduct literature reviews, stakeholder mapping, and data analysis 

• Contribute to survey development, focus groups, and interviews with people living with IMDs, families, clinicians and other stakeholders 

• Assist with analyses and write up findings in accessible and engaging ways for different audiences 

• Ensure all research is ethical, inclusive, and relevant to the needs of the IMD community 

Policy Monitoring and Response: 

• Track developments in policy relevant to rare diseases and inherited metabolic conditions 

• Summarise key policy updates for internal and external audiences 

• Support the drafting of consultation responses, position statements, and policy briefings 

• Contribute to campaigns, stakeholder engagement, and policy influencing activities 

• Help ensure the voice of the IMD community is reflected in national and local policy discussions 

About You

• Comfortable working with data, both qualitative and quantitative

About the Departments:

Both roles sit within the Cathedral and Church Buildings (CCB) Department, which supports the care and sustainable development of the Church of England's 42 cathedrals and 16,000 church buildings, of which 12,500 are listed, to help fulfil the vision and strategy of the Church of England. It also supports dioceses with the disposal of church buildings no longer required for worship and finding them a new future. Through advice, guidance, advocacy and fundraising, the Department provides strategic support on conservation and caring for historic church buildings, making change to support worship and communities, and working towards Net Zero Carbon 2030. Members of the Department engage with dioceses, parishes and cathedral teams, as well as nationally with government, agencies, charities, funders, General Synod and across the National Church Institutions to make the case for church buildings and their vital role in worship, community and national life.

Buildings for Mission team

The Buildings for Mission project is an initiative of the Department funded by the Church Commissioners from the 2023-25 triennium allocations. It is providing £11m of support to dioceses and parishes through advice and grants, structured around three main activities. The Church Buildings Support Officers (CBSO) Grant Scheme supports salary and related costs for new posts to provide advice to parishes on repair and maintenance and on developing the wider use and support for churches through community engagement. The Minor Repairs and Improvements Grants Fund is devolving £6.2m to dioceses to distribute in the form of grants for urgent and necessary small-scale repair projects or improvement projects. The Church Buildings Management Partnerships (CBMPs) initiative aims at the formation of partnerships to provide maintenance and insurance services to member churches. Pilot projects are being grant-aided over the period 2025-26.

The Grants Officer role within the Buildings for Mission team will provide a responsive service for the grant schemes under the Buildings for Mission initiative:

• The Church Buildings Support Officers (CBSO) Grant Scheme,
• The Minor Repairs and Improvements Grants Fund, and
• The Church Buildings Management Partnerships (CBMP) pilots.

Net Zero Carbon Programme

The Net Zero Carbon Programme was established to help the Church of England to deliver its commitment to reaching Net Zero Carbon by 2030. It aims to aims to equip, resource and support all parts of the Church to reduce carbon emissions from the energy used in its buildings, schools and through work-related transport by 2030. The team manages the distribution of a grant portfolio worth £190 million across 2023-31, aimed at supporting and equipping dioceses, parishes and other parts of the Church to reach the milestones set out in the Routemap to Net Zero 2030.

The Grants Officer role within the Net Zero Carbon programme will play a vital role in supporting the work of the Net Zero Carbon Programme's grant streams, supporting it in delivering a consistent and responsive service to grantees.

In both roles, duties will include:

• Assisting the Grants Manager with general operation and oversight of the schemes
• Providing a knowledgeable and responsive service to dioceses as first point of contact for the grant schemes
• Handling general enquiries and pre-application engagement, assessing and responding to expressions of interest from prospective applicants
• Handling a caseload of live grants

Key role requirements:

• For the Buildings for Mission role, the post-holder will be required to come into the primary office location (Church House) or another NCI or diocesan office location (subject to agreement with relevant office management) a minimum of one day per week.
• For the Net Zero Carbon Programme role, the post-holder will required to be home-based, with regular meetings in Church House Westminster and occasional travel elsewhere (up to two days per month).
• These are both fixed-term contracts, Buildings for Mission team (12 month contract) and Net Zero Carbon Programme (12 month contract). There is a possibility that these contract lengths could be extended to the end of 2028, but this is dependant on further funding being agreed.
• You will need to have knowledge/experience of historic and/or natural environment conservation or heritage management OR experience working in the environment or sustainability sector (depending on which role you choose to apply for).
• Both roles require good written/spoken communication skills, good interpersonal skills, ability to work well both on own initiative and good analytical skills.

The Advocacy, Advice and Information department works to empower people and communities, and challenge stigma and disadvantage caused by Mental Health problems. The purpose of this role is to provide professional advocacy to all eligible patients. To ensure that patients voices are heard and respected, rights upheld, and to facilitate positive engagement with ward staff, professionals involved in their care, treatment planning processes, and relevant meetings. This may be facilitated through attendance at patient’s forums, ward meetings, working with patients on a one to one basis providing information, representation and support to develop self-advocacy skills; and developing new forums and forms of support.

Duties will include providing professional advocacy to all patients, informing them of their rights and supporting them with any issues that are impacting them during their hospital admission. Ensuring that advocacy is available for all patients, that appropriate methods of communication are available in order to meet the needs of all patients, and to be able to adapt to changing ward based or external changes.

This role is providing specialist advocacy for 12 Forensic Wards at Chase Farm Hospital and in community locations.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a Forensic Advocacy Role within a Psychiatric Inpatient Setting and have at least 3 years experience of working in an Advocacy Role.

We are seeking a Data and Impact Officer to join us to work closely with our Head of Data and Impact and Impact and Evaluation Manager. The role will include administering and developing our database, helping to assess the impact of our

MediCinema is a leading and growing UK charity with a mission to improve the wellbeing of patients, their families and carers through the magic of the shared cinema experience. We do this by building and running fully installed, high specification cinemas in hospitals, bringing the magic of the silver screen to patients young and old, for free.

As the Head of High Value Relationships, you will lead and oversee the strategic development and growth of our high-value fundraising programme. You will be responsible for cultivating and securing philanthropic support from individuals, foundations, and businesses, helping to ensure that MediCinema can continue to provide its vital services and reach many more hospital partners across the UK.  You will work closely with the Director of Development and colleagues across MediCinema, as well as with key stakeholders such as our Trustees, to create tailored fundraising strategies, and build and sustain long-term relationships with high-net-worth donors and partners.  Through the creation of a Fundraising board, a Donor Circle and development of a structured giving programme, you will help us to attract and engage donors in our long-term vision. 

You will bring a demonstrable track record in major gifts fundraising, ideally at the 5 and 6-figure level, and delivering successful income generating activities. To succeed in this role, you will be resourceful, self-motivated and collaborative, and be excited about an opportunity to work within a small and growing team.  You will work in lockstep with the Director of Development, and have the opportunity to bring your creativity and entrepreneurial flair to a purpose-led organisation that is on a path of success.  In return, you will have the support of a committed Director and team, a highly engaged CEO and Trustees, and have an opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of thousands of people.

Role Overview
This is an exciting moment to join the organisation at a time of significant growth. Our expanding Grants Team is building for scale, and in this role, you will contribute directly to our organisation's goal of making philanthropy more efficient for our donors. Our Grants Team is dedicated to managing a large volume of grants with exceptional precision, making this role pivotal in facilitating transactional grantmaking, distinct from the conventional grantmaking approach.

The position will be part of the Grants Team and will also work closely with the Operations Team, the Donor Relations Team, and the  Development Team on grant-related activities.  The role will also involve working closely with US colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Grants Processing– supporting the Grants Team with the entire grantmaking process from grant recommendation (from the DAF donor) to grant payment (to the grantee).
• Grantmaking Compliance–ensuring grants made from the trust are compliant with UK and UK/US charitable grantmaking rules.
• Subject Matter Expertise – supporting the Grants Team to be subject matter experts, both internally and externally, on all aspects of grantmaking activity for the organisation and providing appropriate communication to the other functions as necessary.

DFN Project SEARCH offer an evidence-based supported internship model which takes place entirely in the workplace.  The programmes provide continuous support to young adults with a learning disability, and autistic people who are aged between 16 – 24 with an Education Health and Care Plan, or equivalent, in their final year of education.

You will be required to identify opportunities to develop and grow DFN Project SEARCH programmes across a geographical area with the aim of supporting the organisation to ensure that as many people as need it have access to DFN Project SEARCH programmes.

In addition, you will be required to develop strategies to ensure that the operational programmes in your area are achieving at least the average outcomes expected for young people in our programmes and so you must be committed to continuous improvement.

You will be specifically required to develop strong partnerships and train and support colleagues within your area. You may also be required to support colleagues promoting DFN Project SEARCH in other areas, further European projects as required and contribute to the development of relevant UK focussed materials.

As a Programme Specialist you will be expected to:

• Demonstrate effective project planning and preparation so that each project delivers achieves the highest quality programme possible and outstanding employment outcomes for the interns.
• Establish effective working relationships with schools, colleges, local authorities, employers and the project professional staff to promote the building of excellent, high quality partnerships at each site to ensure the effective running of programmes and promote sustainability in a volatile environment.
