Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

Time expectation

Our fundraising team leaders usually spend three to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Role Description

As the helpline volunteer, you will be providing support to those that have experienced sexual violence and provide emotional support and information around our services. You will help empower our callers to make their own decisions and provide them with a space to talk about how they feel .

Training Opportunities

Volunteers will be able to access Solace Women’s Aid’s induction and internal volunteer training programme. Full support will be given to help volunteers understand and carry out any aspect of the role as appropriate. You will also receive an 8 week training with North London Rape Crisis.

Volunteer Bid Writer – Children With Voices

Position Overview:

Children With Voices, a dynamic and community-driven charity committed to supporting vulnerable individuals and families, is seeking a motivated and skilled Volunteer Bid Writer. This role is instrumental in securing funding opportunities, grants, and partnerships to ensure the continuous growth and success of the charity's initiatives.

Responsibilities:

1. Research and Identify Funding Opportunities:

  - Conduct thorough research to identify potential funding sources, grants, and partnership opportunities aligned with Children With Voices' mission and projects.

2. Proposal Development:

  - Collaborate with the charity's leadership team to gather information on projects and programs requiring funding.

  - Develop compelling and well-articulated grant proposals, ensuring alignment with donor guidelines and requirements.

  - Craft persuasive narratives that effectively communicate the impact of Children With Voices' activities.

3. Grant Application Submission:

  - Prepare and submit grant applications within specified deadlines, adhering to all application guidelines and requirements.

  - Maintain accurate records of submitted proposals, deadlines, and communication with funding bodies.

4. Relationship Building:

  - Establish and maintain positive relationships with potential donors, grant-making organisations, and other stakeholders.

5. Collaboration and Coordination:

  - Work closely with the fundraising team and project managers to gather necessary information for proposals.

Charity Trustee

You and Me Counselling are currently recruiting volunteer trustees to complement the committee members already in their role.

This is a home working role and will be for immediate start.

Our charity

You and Me Counselling is a charitable organisation established in 2011. We are a counselling and psychotherapy service based in Hornchurch, Essex that works with children, young people, adults, and their families in the boroughs of Havering, Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, and Waltham Forest. Our counsellors and therapists work both within schools and from our counselling rooms located in Hornchurch and Ilford.

You and Me Counselling are an organisational member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). This means we are fully governed by the BACP’s Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

Job Description

As a trustee you will need to:

• Acknowledge emails at least once a day.
• Give a minimum of one hour per week to the role.
• Attend quarterly trustee meetings online.
• Ensure that You and Me Counselling pursues its stated objectives
• Ensure there is regular review of changes that might affect the organisation (political, financial, demographic, etc.)

Role Purpose

As a member of the Board of Trustees, the Legal Trustee shares collective responsibility for the governance, strategy, and sustainability of Focus Birmingham. In addition to these general duties, the Legal Trustee provides expert legal insight and guidance to the Board and executive team, ensuring the charity complies with relevant laws, maintains robust risk management, and adheres to best practice in governance and decision-making.

You will work closely with the Chair, Chief Executive Officer, and fellow Trustees, supporting key decisions across areas such as regulatory compliance, contracts, safeguarding, employment, and charitable governance.

Key Responsibilities

General Trustee Duties

• Ensure the charity complies with its governing documents, charity law, company law, and all relevant legislation or regulations.
• Contribute to the development and monitoring of Focus Birmingham’s strategic direction and operational plans.
• Act in the best interests, avoiding conflicts of interest and maintaining confidentiality.
• Uphold and champion the charity’s values, mission, and policies including those related to safeguarding, equality, and inclusion.
• Attend and participate actively in Board meetings (typically held quarterly), relevant sub-committees, and strategic events.
• Maintain effective oversight of financial performance, risk, and governance quality.
• Serve as a critical friend to the executive team, providing support, challenge, and encouragement.

Legal Trustee-Specific Responsibilities

• Act as the Board’s primary source of legal expertise, offering high-level advice on legal, regulatory, and contractual matters.
• Advise the Board on its responsibilities under charity, company, employment, data protection, and safeguarding law, among others.
• Support the scrutiny of key contracts, leases, service agreements, and policies to ensure legal compliance and mitigate risks.
• Guide the Board in managing disputes, liabilities, or potential legal actions, working with external counsel when needed.
• Assist with drafting and reviewing governance policies, board terms of reference, delegated authorities, and codes of conduct.
• Ensure the charity is prepared for regulatory inspections (e.g., Charity Commission, CQC) and supports compliance reporting.
• Monitor emerging legal developments that may impact the charity and advise accordingly.
