About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Chair of the Board of Trustees to provide strategic leadership and governance for C360. As Chair, you will work closely with the Chief Executive to ensure the charity delivers its mission and objectives while championing our core values: Collaboration, Innovation, Resilience, Initiative, and Inclusion (CIRII).
 

The Chair also holds trustee responsibilities, ensuring Community360 operates within the law, maintains the highest standards of governance, and protects the charity’s reputation, assets, and beneficiaries.
 

Key Responsibilities
 

Strategic Leadership & Governance
 

• Lead the Board in providing clear strategic direction and oversight of C360’s activities, ensuring alignment with its vision and mission.
• Ensure the Board pursues its stated charitable objectives and maintains compliance with governing documents, charity law, and other regulations.
• Promote best practice in governance and foster a culture of accountability, openness, and integrity.
• Chair and facilitate Board meetings efficiently, promoting informed, constructive, and inclusive discussion and decision-making.
• Appraise and support the Chief Executive, including monitoring performance against agreed objectives and providing professional development opportunities.
• Oversee risk management, financial stability, and the effective use of the charity’s resources.
• Ensure proper policies and procedures are in place and followed, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

External Relations & Ambassadorship
 

• Act as an ambassador for C360, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and the wider community.
• Represent the charity externally at events, meetings, and functions, promoting its mission and values.

Trustee-Level Duties
 

• Act in the best interests of C360, its beneficiaries, and the wider community at all times.
• Safeguard the charity’s assets, property, and financial integrity.
• Support the strategic development of key areas of C360 business using local knowledge, networks, and relationships.
• Act as a counter-signatory on cheques and applications for funding in accordance with financial procedures.

Required Skills & Qualifications
 

• Significant experience as a trustee, non-executive board member, or senior leadership role within a charity, social enterprise, or complex organisation.
• Strong strategic leadership skills with the ability to inspire, challenge, and support the Board and Executive.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence in an ambassadorial role.
• Proven ability to foster collaboration, innovation, and resilience in teams.
• Knowledge of charity governance, finance, and regulatory requirements.

Experience
 

• Experience of working at a senior strategic level, chairing meetings, and leading organisational change.
• Successful track record of external representation, stakeholder engagement, and building networks.
• Experience of promoting organisational growth, innovation, and high standards of governance.

Our fantastic Chair’s tenure will be coming to an end in 2026, so we are looking to appoint her successor to help Student Minds improve university communities so that every student gets the mental health support they need to reach their goals.

At Student Minds, we’re working to improve university communities so that no student is held back by their mental health. So it should come as no surprise that we are keen to reflect the communities we serve, maintain a diverse board and ensure student voices are represented. This is key to our mission and our continued impact. 

We are open-minded about the professional background of this individual and are mostly looking for someone with experience of leading effective, inclusive teams, of chairing complex organisations or meetings, and in building influential cross-sector partnerships.

Key responsibilities

Student Minds Chair is expected to commit to the following: 

• Preparation and attendance at four board meetings a year. Board meetings are held online and take place on weekdays from 5 - 7.30 pm. 

• Preparation and attendance at two in-person board away days each year, usually from 12.30 - 5 pm. These usually take place in Leeds and include a lunchtime or evening social.

• Monthly supervision calls with the Chief Executive

• Annual in-person appraisal of the Chief Executive 

• Support with board appraisals and recruitment 

• Ad-hoc meetings and conversations with the senior leadership team as required. This usually constitutes approximately a further five working days a year.

• Attendance at relevant task-group meetings and/or committees.

Role description

All Abortion Talk trustees are responsible for ensuring that we:

● have effectively evaluated the success of our three-year strategy.
● develop and implement a new, 2027 - 2030 strategy for Abortion Talk, to help us achieve
our vision of a world free of abortion stigma.
● comply with our governing document (i.e. our charitable objects), charity law, company
law and any other relevant legislation or regulation.
● apply our resources only in pursuing our charitable objects and for the benefit of the
public.
● protect the pro-choice, feminist and inclusive values of our charity.
● effectively govern the charity, which includes making sure we have the proper policies
and procedures in place.
● ensure financial stability.

The role of the treasurer also includes:
● maintaining an overview of the Abortion Talk’s financial affairs.
● ensuring Abortion Talk’s financial viability.
● ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.
Time commitment: Four two-hour virtual meetings per year, plus one in-person strategy day
(held on a Saturday in London).

The above role description is indicative, not exhaustive. While day to day financial management
is handled by our lead contractor, the treasurer will be required to provide oversight and advice
on financial matters. This is estimated to require around 8 to 10 hours per month.

• Someone confident with money management, budgets, or spreadsheets (finance or bookkeeping experience is great but not essential!).

• Reliable, detail-oriented, and honest.

• Friendly communicator who can make numbers make sense.

• Passionate about supporting young people, families, and communities through loss and mental health challenges.

Commitment & Expenses:

• This is a voluntary role — trustees are not paid, but reasonable expenses (like travel or supplies) will be reimbursed.

• We usually meet once every 1–2 months, and you’ll also help out a little between meetings when needed.

• You also have the opportunity to be involved in the charity's community work, however there is no expectation of this.

We’re looking for reliable, tech-savvy people who’d like to use their digital or IT skills to help improve our online systems and website.

As a Web and IT Support Volunteer, you’ll help us keep our website up to date, support digital record-keeping and assist with maintaining efficient systems that help us work effectively. You’ll play an important role in helping us stay connected, accessible and organised across our programmes.

This role is ideal for someone with an interest in IT, websites or digital operations who wants to make a practical contribution to community-focused work.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Updating website pages with new events, news and programme information
• Supporting the layout and accessibility of website content
• Uploading photos, articles or updates to digital platforms
• Helping staff and volunteers use digital tools
• Assisting with digital forms, data collection and record management
• Providing basic troubleshooting support or referring technical issues to the appropriate person
• Helping test and improve the digital tools and systems used by the team

Skills and Qualities We’re Looking For

• Confidence using websites, IT systems and digital tools
• Good understanding of basic data management and online platforms
• Problem-solving and attention to detail
• Clear communication and teamwork skills
• Reliable and organised approach to tasks
• Awareness of data protection and confidentiality principles
