We are looking for a proactive self-starter to sit within a high-performing team working to raise awareness of SSAFA’s support in the South West Region of England to those in the Armed Forces Community who need it most.
With the ultimate objective being to grow SSAFA’s presence, profile, and identity, the role is responsible for all marcomms activation in the region. The role holder will work to deliver the central Fundraising, Marketing & Communications strategy.
This role reports to the Head of Communications with close alignment with colleagues across the marcomms directorate. The marcomms manager will be responsible for managing marketing campaigns in the South West Region of England and promoting SSAFA’s fundraising initiatives and services. You’ll identify the areas of greatest impact and cut through, deliver integrated awareness campaigns and secure media coverage of fundraising events. Crucially, you’ll be able to identify stories which resonate with our target audience and write calls to action.
With a heavy focus on media and PR activity, key to the role is building strong relationships and contacts with relevant stakeholders in your region including media representatives, employees, volunteers, and case study beneficiaries.
About the team
The Communications team is a small but dynamic group of individuals with strong skillsets across Public Relations, Storytelling (case studies) and Internal Communications. The team is a mix of ex-forces and civilians, and they are always sharing knowledge and expertise with each other.
You will work closely across all directorates within SSAFA, with a focus in South West, to garner information and create compelling marcomms campaigns and activities to raise awareness of SSAFA’s work.

You will be a highly motivated and creative communicator with a proven track record of delivering impactful PR and marketing campaigns. As a natural storyteller with strong media instincts, you will excel at securing high-profile coverage and elevating our brand presence. You will be a confident relationship builder, skilled at engaging stakeholders across the region, from media contacts to volunteers and case study beneficiaries. You will also be able to work independently while staying closely aligned with teams across fundraising and communications, demonstrating proactivity and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.

Experience in managing complex stakeholder environments, including negotiating and aligning interests.
Solid understanding of grant management, including application assessment, funding decisions, compliance, programme evaluation and impact assessment.
Experience in reviewing and restructuring grant portfolios to align with strategic goals.
Knowledge and experience of funds/grants management and fundraising activities within the charity/health sector is desirable.

About the Role
Acorns is currently the UK’s largest children’s hospice charity, in terms of both numbers of children and families supported and annual expenditure on our care work. The role is available on a permanent contract and full-time basis. For this role you will be based at the South Derbyshire office 4 days a week, with one day working from home. The salary banding is £40,000-£45,000 + a discretionary bonus of up to 10%.
In this role, you will take charge of the provision of routine management accounts and cash flow forecasts. You will build budgets and longer-term financial planning. You will produce year-end accounts and manage relationships with stakeholders. You will support with funding proposals and donor reporting. You will ensure that the day-to-day financial accounting activity of each charity is undertaken efficiently and effectively. You will review and improve systems, procedures, and policies. You will also present financial updates to the Executive Teams and Board, providing strategic advice.
To be successful in this role, you will have relevant finance knowledge, either by qualification or experience. You will have experience of producing management accounts and external reporting. You will have experience using SME accounting software/systems and Microsoft Excel.
You will have strong relationship-building abilities and excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will be a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment. You will also be self motivated and have the ability to manage your own time and workload.
Desirably, you will have experience working in the charity sector.

The Talent Set are partnering with Mary’s Meals to recruit for a Philanthropy & Partnerships Manager to join their growing team. This role will play a key role in the Charity’s development of their high-net-worth audiences, translating the charity’s exceptional grassroots support into compelling and innovative proposals to inspire individuals and Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) to contribute to the Charity’s mission, providing more school meals for children across the world.
This role is primarily home based, within a commutable distance to London for meetings as needed.
Key duties include:
- Build and steward relationships with new and existing Donor Advised Funds, encouraging these funds to market Mary’s Meals to their donors, ensuring mutually beneficial partnerships, multi-year support and transformational gifts.
- Work closely with the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships to develop the charity’s high-value giving strategy, working closely to expand the portfolio by identifying and securing new philanthropic opportunities through individuals and DAFs.
- Manage relationships with current High Net Worth (HNW) donors, including those who give through non-cash assets such as shares, engaging them through the prospect of giving through DAFs where appropriate.
- Identify and maximise communications and engagement opportunities with new and prospective individual donors and DAFs, ensuring that the charity’s mission and case for support is effectively communicated to high-net-worth audiences.
We’re looking for the following skills and experience:
- Tangible experience of managing high-net-worth donor relationships, personally securing 5 figure+ gifts.
- Experience and ability to network proactively, with an entrepreneurial approach to relationship building.
- An understanding and curiosity around diverse mechanisms of high-value giving, including through non-cash assets and through Donor Advised Funds.
- Experience and knowledge of account management principles, with the ability to manage relationships with individuals and Donor Advised Funds to drive mutually beneficial outcomes.

Applicants will need to have a strong social media background and creative digital skills. Experience in a similar role or environment as well as outstanding communications skills, a self-starter approach and a keen interest in food and drink are essential.
