HOURS: Minimum 1 - 2 hours / week, Flexible

LOCATION: Opportunities across East & West Kent & Medway, flexible / based on volunteer’s home location.

DESCRIPTION: 

Available volunteer opportunities include;

Regular visits to a person or couple navigating cancer to offer company and a friendly, listening ear at a difficult time.

Providing transport to a person or couple navigating cancer from their home to healthcare appointments including but not limited to Chemotherapy / Radiology sessions and GP appointments.

Light gardening support.

Subject to the volunteers wishes, some volunteer placements can include support with light housework, shopping support, accompanying a client on a walk or short external trips, and enjoying shared hobbies that bring both the client and volunteer a great sense of wellbeing.

PLEASE NOTE: All volunteer roles listed above involve visiting a client at their home in some capacity. We currently do not have any volunteer roles that involve working from your home / online.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Good communication, empathy, and the ability to be non-judgmental.

Full Training provided by Crossroads Care Kent.

WHAT WE OFFER: An enormous sense of wellbeing and purpose and an increased understanding of those living with cancer and comparable conditions; just giving an hour or more a week’s companionship and practical help can make a huge difference to an unpaid carer and who they care for.

Travel expenses from volunteers’ home to clients home reimbursed.

Other Travel expenses reimbursed where applicable.

Other volunteering expenses, such as costs of shopping, also reimbursed.

Volunteer References also available where applicable.

Additional CPD accredited Training opportunities available including but not limited to First Aid, Cancer awareness, Dementia awareness, Mental Health.

We urgently need volunteers who can provide a friendly face, shop for and deliver groceries to our clients.

The Age Connects shopping service is an invaluable lifeline to so many older, vulnerable members of our local communities, particularly those with no family or friends to offer shopping support. We know that older people can become frail, and those who have mobility problems, who no longer drive or don’t have access to the internet, may find it difficult to do their weekly shop.

As a shopper you will be providing a shop and deliver service for the client either on a weekly or fortnightly basis. You will collect their shopping list, carry out the shopping and deliver it back to them. It could be that you’re the only person they see or speak to that day or even that week and it can be an opportunity to have a chat with the client, provide them with information about other services they may need or to offer practical help.

This is a fee paying service, the client will pay £5 per shop to the charity. If you are a friendly, reliable and trustworthy, you can help. You need to be aged 18+, and to be able to make a commitment for a minimum of 6 months: we will also require two character references, and will carry out a DBS check before you can start. It is best if you have access to your own transport, as some clients do not live centrally, or require large shops.

Yorkshire Cat Rescue - Retail Drivers Mate

Why Join? Help move donations from between the shops and to the rescue centre and vice versa, collect donations from around Yorkshire, and support logistics teamwork!

Aims & Expectations:

Ensure safe transport of goods and maintain a tidy shop floor.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

Help with loading and unloading, sorting items, carrying out deliveries and pick-ups.

Role Boundaries:

No driving required.

Key Policies: Health & safety, manual handling, data privacy, PPE.

Role Support: Report to the Driver, induction and training provided.

Friendly and approachable staff members are available and will assist volunteers in everything they do.

Expenses: Pre-approved travel reimbursed with receipts.

Success Measures:

Smooth transfer of stock, organised collections, packing, and postdelivery.

Positive feedback from interactions.

Location & Hours:

West Yorkshire. Flexible hours to suit individuals during the times the drivers are working.

Behaviour & Dress:

Adherence to code of conduct, clothes suitable for indoor and outdoor working environment, closed-toe sturdy comfortable shoes.

Skills & Specs: Essential - good physical health, willingness to take instruction, enjoy working in a team.

Desirable - warehouse or delivery support experience.

This role involves making regular contact with an older person who feels lonely or isolated. Befriending volunteers also encourage customers to become more independent inside and outside of their home with regards to activities, appointments and domestic lifestyles.
