We’re a specialist provider of support services for autistic people, people with learning disabilities and acquired brain injuries. We work across London, Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Essex, Suffolk, Hampshire Cambridgeshire and Shropshire.
What will you be doing?
As well as providing an invaluable service for an organisation and it's people, becoming a trustee can be an excellent step for your career development.
Anyone can apply to be a trustee with us. Avenues is a hugely diverse community of people and we always want our trustee group to reflect this.
At present we are looking for (core) trustees with experience in these particular skills:
- Financial experience within the Care Sector Experience in Health and Social Care (outside Avenues)
- People management and organisational development
- Risk Management (specialising in a quality, compliance and regulatory environment).
What are we looking for?

- People management and organisational development to join our Board and the People, Culture and Reward Committee
- Risk Management (specialising in a quality, compliance and regulatory environment) to join our Board and our Audit and Risk Committee.
The following characteristics, knowledge and experiences (or willingness to learn) would be helpful in being a trustee:
- a high level of understanding and interest in the charity and its work a commitment to the values and principles of the charity;
- strong business and financial acumen;
- experience of committee work;
- good interpersonal and communication skills;
- sound, independent judgement, courage, common sense and diplomacy;
- an interest in politics and current issues in social care clear understanding, and acceptance, of the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of trustees; knowledge of charity governance;
- enough time and commitment to fulfil the role ability to listen to and welcome other opinions and experiences;
- flexibility in thinking; a desire to implement the highest standards of governance.
What difference will you make?
Trustees are responsible for providing appropriate oversight, governance and leadership to the charity in the pursuit of its strategies to fulfil its charitable purposes.
A trustee’s main duties under charity law are to:
- ensure the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit;
- comply with the charity’s governing document and the law;
- act in the charity’s best interests; manage the charity’s resources responsibly;
- act with reasonable care and skill; and ensure the charity is accountable.

We are looking for motivated, self-driven and passionate individuals to work with our client group and support them on their way to recovery.
Role Overview
The SHARP programme is a community-based rehabilitation service, for individuals with alcohol or drug addictions. Clients attend the service on a daily basis for abstinence-based, interpersonal group therapy.
There are two centres at which this service is operated 9 Coggeshall Road in Braintree and 34 Runwell Road in Wickford. The role of a volunteer driver involves using their own vehicle properly insured, to carry one or more clients to and from the SHARP programme and their home address. The routes are variable depending upon where clients live and the administrator at either site will agree the routes with each volunteer to ensure the most effective cost saving for the service.
Each volunteer can choose when to work and how often to undertake journeys to suit their own personal situation.
The service will refund the car mileage (at a rate of 45p per mile) for journeys that begin and end at their home address.
What you will be doing.....
• Arriving to collect and return clients in a timely fashion to ensure the client is punctual to the programme;
• Driving carefully and within the highway code to ensure safety of self, clients and other road users;
• Ensure that the vehicle used meets all relevant legal and safety standards and is properly insured for the carriage of passengers in a business context;
You will be providing important help and support for vulnerable people, and helping them on their journey to recovery and you will be giving back to the community.
There is a possibility that this role could progress into full or part time paid employment for the right person and the right role.
We pay your car milage, this is at a rate of 45p per mile.
Also a full induction into the team will be provided, including placement specific policies and procedures. The following training will be provided:

About the CARAS ESOL Team:
Our award-winning ESOL project offers English language classes to adults at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling people to attend college and access other services in the future.
About the Role:
CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our face-to-face adult ESOL classes in Tooting. Volunteers in this role are required to commit to at least one 2-hour session every Wednesday during these times:

Mondays ESOL 9:30 to 13:30

Tuesday 9:30 to 11:30

Tuesday One-to-one employability and language learning support 15:00 to 17:00
Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.
Volunteer tasks and responsibilities:

Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within ESOL classes;

Helping to set up the classroom and provide learners with classroom resources;

Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session;

Making use of any community languages you may know to help students during the class;

Working collaboratively as a team and helping to shape the project;

Supporting people to develop their knowledge and skills, encouraging and inspiring participants to reach their full potential;

Assisting participants to recognise and celebrate their achievements;

Requirements:
Essential:

To be 18 years or older;

Able to travel to our community centre in Tooting (travel expenses can be reimbursed);

Excellent communication skills, especially with people who are new to English;

The ability to volunteer on Mondays or Wednesdays during Wandsworth term time for a minimum of three months;

Currently resident in the UK; has asylum-seeker or refugee status

*Able to provide five years’ worth of addresses, and willing to undergo a DBS check;

Able to attend volunteer induction training (online) prior to start of role.
*DBS and proof of residency is not necessary if you are a CARAS community member who is more recently arrived in the UK.

About The Role
We’re WWT, the charity for wetlands and wildlife. We’re on a mission to restore wetlands because they are a wondrous solution to our world's problems. Volunteers are integral to the running of our Welney centre and without their help we wouldn’t be able to welcome our visitors to this amazing wetland. Your role will be helping to bring people of all ages and backgrounds closer to wetland wildlife, by providing assistance to visitors and encouraging them to explore the site and learn about WWT’s pioneering wetland conservation work, to save wetlands for wildlife and people. You’ll support the delivery of excellent customer service for the retail and membership team, inspiring people to support us as members of the WWT, and be a warm and welcoming face for our cause.

Time commitment? We are looking for volunteers who can ideally commit to one day across the week. Shifts are negotiable, with suitable breaks. After completing training and an induction for this role, we ask volunteers to spend a minimum of 6 months volunteering with WWT Welney.
You’ll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and other information you need. This will include risk assessments based on your role and any particular support you need. Volunteers receive access to our sites, and discounts in our shops and cafes. Some roles include a uniform or require the use of equipment or protective clothing. If you are based at a particular site or office location, you’ll need to be able to get yourself there and back. Information on locations can be found on our website. We will keep you up to date with what’s happening across WWT and the difference you will be helping to make happen.

About TLC
The Trans Legal Clinic is the first trans-led specialist gender identity legal practice and registered charity in the UK. The mission of the Trans Legal Clinic is simple; we provide free and accessible legal help to transgender and non-binary people in need. Our overarching vision is a society where all people have access to the legal resources required for gender self-determination and where gender diversity is not just accepted but embraced, with trans* people equipped with the necessary legal tools to navigate the world in their affirmed gender.
Service Introduction
The Casework department is the core of our organisation, working directly with clients by offering them support and advocacy. We have assisted over 70 clients since October 2023 and will be re-opening our referrals in January 2025 to new clients seeking our support.
Our Casework department is divided into four teams. Each team constitutes of one Specialist Caseworker who oversees 5-15 casework volunteers. Our four teams are:
Housing and Homelessness
Discrimination
Gender Recognition: legal transition and healthcare advocacy
Gender-Based Violence: domestic abuse and hate crime
Our Gender-Based Violence team provides specialist support to trans* individuals who have experienced hate crime, domestic abuse, and/or sexual violence. We work with compassion and care to empower our clients, often in extremely distressing circumstances, offering practical assistance in navigating the criminal justice system, obtaining protective orders, and accessing support services. Recognising the unique challenges trans* people face in these situations, our team works to address systemic inequalities and ensure that all clients feel safe, heard, and supported throughout their journey to justice and recovery.
Key tasks and responsibilities
Support and outreach
Be fully aware of safeguarding issues and lead on client risk management within the service.
Update the Gender-Based Violence client database to ensure client records are updated within agreed timeframes and that they accurately record interventions and demonstrate progress.
Liaise with our team of solicitors when requesting advice and guidance on a case.
Reach out to organisations that specialise in gender-based violence, especially hate crime, domestic abuse, and/or sexual violence and trans* specific services, to collaborate and share knowledge and resources.
Teamwork
Lead the Gender-Based Violence team by supervising caseworkers.
Support caseworks by setting clear objectives and holding team and individual supervisions regularly.
Set and moderate team performance targets.
Attend department meetings and contribute to discussions.
Be respectful to colleagues and support good communication between all stakeholders.
Research
Create and deliver training for current and future caseworkers in the Gender-Based Violence team.
Create resources for caseworkers on relevant legislation, case studies, and good practice, to allow them to become more knowledgeable and independent whilst working with clients.
Create resources for clients and those seeking information on our website about hate crimes, domestic abuse, and sexual violence.
Conduct general research into hate crimes, domestic abuse, and sexual violence experienced by trans* people in the UK.
General
Ensure you approach to contact with clients is trauma-informed and person-centred.
Adhere to Trans Legal Clinic’s Policies and Procedures at all times.
Cover for other members of the team and department as necessary.
Be proactive in reviewing and evaluating own performance and identifying upon areas for improvement and development.

Our Services help families at a time of extreme trauma caused by child sexual abuse – providing emotional and practical support to young victims, siblings and non-abusing parents/carers so that they can move on positively with their lives together.

We Stand is run by a Board made up of volunteer Trustees. We are seeking committed and passionate individuals, to fill the roles of Board trustees.
We are particularly interested in applications from those with the following experience, but more importantly we are interested in applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences, to support our work.

Job description
We need dedicated volunteers to work at our Hampstead store. If you have a passion for fashion (especially second-hand), amazing customer service skills and you are keen to learn new skills, then this opportunity is for you. As a volunteer you will also be involved in receiving, sorting, steaming, and pricing our lovely donations, serving at the till, and using your creativity to create displays around the shop. Training will be provided. As a volunteer, you will be helping to raise money for the Octavia Foundation and support the work we do in the local community.

Main activities/tasks:
- Plan, organize and run sessions for clients.

Who are we looking for?
- You will have some experience in leading Zumba classes.
- No fluency in Spanish or Portuguese needed.
