ROLE DESCRIPTION AND HOW TO APPLY
Key Responsibilities
To advise, govern, oversee policy and direction and assist with the leadership and general promotion of We Are Family to support the organisation’s vision, mission, values and needs.
- Contract: two years unless agreed otherwise on appointment. The Chair is eligible for re-election within their overall period of appointment as a Trustee.
- Hours: circa 8-10 hours per month (including evening meetings)
- Salary: n/a this is a voluntary role, with associated expenses covered
- Location: Remote (UK-based), twice yearly in-person meetings in London
Commitment
- Chair 4 Board meetings per year
- Attend 4 Sub-Committee meetings per year
- Help plan and chair 2 Board away days per year (on a Saturday)
- Fortnightly check-ins with the Director
- Join the staff team meeting once per month
- Induction meetings with new Trustees
Board and committee meetings are held in the evening via Zoom and dates of meetings are distributed a year in advance. The away days are held in person in central London.
Skills and knowledge

- Strong understanding of the challenges faced by adoptive parents;
- Extensive charity governance knowledge;
- Skills or experience in strategic planning, setting targets and monitoring and evaluating performance;

About It’s Time:
It’s Time is a charity created by and for young adults who have experienced the death of a parent. Founded by people who know this grief first-hand, the charity ensures no one aged 18–35 has to navigate such loss alone. Through peer-led support, events, free group therapy, and tailored resources, It’s Time offers connection and understanding during an often isolating time. The charity also partners with universities, workplaces, and families to promote better bereavement support - recognising that grief doesn’t follow a timeline, and the help offered to young adults shouldn’t either.
The charity was founded in 2021 and we now run local peer support groups throughout England, have a year long waiting list for our group therapy and supports around 500 people in the online community. About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled and committed Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and lead the financial stewardship of our growing charity. This is a vital voluntary role for someone with strong financial expertise who wants to make a meaningful difference in a purpose-driven organisation.

CPRE Buckinghamshire (part of CPRE – The Countryside Charity) is looking for a Trustee with a background, or strong interest, in the local farming community. This Trustee will take the lead in our campaign to support sustainable farming and agricultural practices, and will help us to partner with relevant groups, with the aim of enhancing and protecting Buckinghamshire’s wildlife and countryside.
This volunteer role would suit someone living or studying in Buckinghamshire who would like to be involved in campaigning and sharing their expertise with other Trustees, volunteers and members of CPRE.
You will ideally have experience of, or a deep interest in, sustainable farming, and agricultural practices that ensure food production without compromising the environment or future generations' ability to meet their needs. Your expertise will help us to demonstrate how farming today can focus on reducing its impact on ecosystems, can promote biodiversity, and can minimise energy use.
As a Trustee, you will also be part of our small and collaborative Trustee board. You will help to deliver our strategy, vision and mission, and guide the future direction of CPRE Buckinghamshire. Role Description
You will live the values of Able Child, keeping the best interests of our staff, Network Members and the children we support at the heart of decision making. You will be a skilled communicator, able to hold high level discussions while being diplomatic in your opinions. You will have the relevant expertise and experience to add value to our Board of Trustees, helping drive quality and sustainability across the organisation.
We are seeking individuals with expertise and experience in any or all of the following areas:
- Human Resources
- Law (particularly charitable law, but other legal specialists are also welcome)
- Safeguarding
We recognise that there is currently a gap in female representation on our board and we particularly encourage applications from women. We also encourage applicants who represent the communities we work with in Africa. However, while we have a specific interest in these areas, we welcome all applicants who possess relevant experience.
Terms
Location: Board meetings are conducted primarily via video call, with a commitment to hold at least one face-to-face meeting annually.
Hours: Trustees are expected to attend quarterly Board meetings, which may be held on weekdays or Saturday mornings. Additional time may be required for participation in sub-committees or working groups to address matters between meetings, as well as pre-reading of Board papers.
Term: Trustees are able to serve three 3-year terms. We are looking for individuals who can commit to our board for a minimum of three years, except in the case of unforeseen circumstances which could prevent this.

The Honorary Treasurer is a key voluntary post within Mountain Training England and the wider network of related mountaineering organisations. As a member of the Board of Trustees, the Treasurer shares the responsibility for overseeing the management of the organisation and implementing the strategic objectives of its members.
The Treasurer has an oversight role over all aspects of financial management, working closely with other members of the Board of Trustees to safeguard the organisation financially. They act as an informed reference point for the Chair and other Trustees.
Although it is the Treasurer’s responsibility to ensure proper financial records and procedures are maintained, much of this work is delegated to the Finance and Audit Sub-committee and paid staff.

Role of Mountain Training England Treasurer
- The Treasurer oversees the financial matters of Mountain Training England in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements of the Charities and Companies Acts and reports both quarterly to the Board and to the Members at three Council meetings per year about the financial health of the organisation.
- The Treasurer ensures that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are in place.
- The Treasurer takes the lead on the formulation of policies for finances, reserves and investments.
Specific Responsibilities
- To oversee/verify and present budgets, accounts, management accounts and financial statements to the Board and Members after discussion with the Finance Committee.
- To ensure that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
- To ensure that full and accurate accounts and records are kept.
- In conjunction with the Executive Officer maintain sound financial management of MTE’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the charity’s objects.
- To ensure compliance with relevant legislation e.g. Companies and Charity legislation and contractual agreements with external agencies such as funders and statutory bodies
- Chairing the Finance and Audit Committee in line with its terms of reference and reporting back to the Board.
- Present the annual statement of accounts to the Members at the Annual General Meeting.
- To liaise with designated staff about financial matters.
- Advising on the financial implications of MTE’s strategic and operational plan.
- Ensure that the annual accounts are compliant with the current Charities Statement of Recommended Practice.
- Ensure any recommendations of the independent examiner are implemented.
- Contribute to the fundraising strategy of the organisation.
- Advise on reserves policy and investment policy.
- Ensure that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of MTE or partner organisations.
- Ensure that MTE has sufficient liquidity to meet its future commitments.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE
Considerable experience as a treasurer of similar sized organisations
Some experience of walking, rock climbing or mountaineering.
OR experience of controlling a budget in a small-to-medium-sized (SME) organisation/business
Have an interest in the development of the Mountain Training awards
Financial accounting and reporting experience
Experience of working with charity or educational body accounts
Recognised accountancy qualification e.g. ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA, AAT etc

Commitment
As Treasurer you will chair the Finance & Audit Committee, which meets quarterly. You will also be expected to attend four Board meetings and a minimum of one of three Members’ Council meetings per year. Attendance at the AGM is expected to present the annual statement of accounts to members.
Occasional attendance at MTUKI Council meetings and Finance Planning Group meetings is required.
Term
Trustees serve for a maximum of three years and are re-elected annually at the Annual General Meeting. At the end of the first three-year term of office Trustees are eligible for re-election for one further term of three years. From time to time the positions of Treasurer, Vice-Chair and Chair become subject to renewal. The Trustees nominate these positions from the Board and the Council votes to approve them at the AGM.
Expenses
Reasonable travel, parking and subsistence expenses are paid to Trustees, in line with MTE expenses policy.

- If external scrutiny of accounts is required, ensuring that the accounts are scrutinised in the manner required (independent examination or audit) and any recommendations are implemented.
- Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.
- Supporting other trustees in understanding the organisation’s financial position and decision making.
- Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation and the ethical fundraising policy.
- Making a formal presentation of the accounts at the Annual General Meeting and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way.

Role Purpose
The Fundraising Trustee will support the Board and Senior Leadership Team in driving fundraising strategies to secure sustainable income, build key partnerships, and ensure delivery of the organisation's objectives. Key Responsibilities
1. Governance and Strategic oversight
