The Role

Key Responsibilities:
As a Trustee, you will help ensure that The Change Foundation:
- Pursues its mission and long-term objectives.
- Defines goals and evaluates our performance.
- Protects and champions the charity’s values and reputation.

All Trustees also contribute to one of our subcommittees:

Quartet Community Foundation is seeking a new chair of trustees to lead our dynamic and committed Board.
Quartet distributes approximately £5 million across 1,000 grants each year to support local communities and charities in the region. Trustees on our Board actively contribute to setting the strategic direction of Quartet, helping to advise and run the organisation. The role of the Chair of Trustees
The chair, along with their deputy is appointed by the Board with the following key responsibilities:

It is an exciting and challenging time for the international development sector. Vision Action is seeking to appoint two new Trustees, one of whom will serve as Chair Designate, to bring experience, insight, and energy in support of our ambition to increase equitable access to basic eye care services in Ghana, Zambia, and Ethiopia (with plans to expand further).
Vision Action was born in 2022 out of the merger to two charities, Vision for a Nation, an award-winning charity founded by the philanthropist James Chen and operating in Rwanda which developed a unique model for providing basic eye care in under-resourced settings, and Vision Aid Overseas, founded in the 1980s to establish accessible vision centres across Africa. The role of the Board of Trustees is to oversee the direction and activities of the charity, including its policies and procedures, to ensure that they are consistently in accordance with the charitable purposes defined in the objects clause in its Constitution. The Board sets and monitors the strategic direction of the charity, although the implementation of strategy is achieved through the executive team.
Terms of service
For Vision Action the Trustees are Members who have been elected to serve on the Board. Vision Action’s constitution allows for up to 12 Trustees, who can serve a maximum of three consecutive terms of three years. Vision Action is a company limited by guarantee and the Trustees are its legal directors. The Trustee role is voluntary but out of pocket expenses are paid. Trustees are appointed by the Vision Action Board of Trustees annually at the Board meeting following the Annual General Meeting. The time commitment in being a trustee involves attendance at four Board meetings per year, one of which will be an all-day strategy session. Otherwise, Board meetings are usually half a day in the afternoon of a weekday with at least half the meetings online. Papers are circulated for reading in advance. There may be other ad-hoc meetings or online events to discuss specific topics.
Main tasks
Charity Trustees have and must accept ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of the charity and ensuring it is solvent, well-run and delivering the charitable outcomes for the benefit of the public for which it has been set up. Each Trustee will be expected to join one of the two sub-committees (Finance and Fundraising; and Programmes and Research). The Committees meet remotely at least four times per year, usually timed with or in advance of the board meetings.
General Responsibilities
- Ensure that Vision Action complies with its governing document (i.e. its Constitution and Bylaws), charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Ensure that Vision Action pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.
- Ensure Vision Action applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects, i.e. it must not spend money on activities which are not included in the objects, however worthwhile they may be.
- Contribute actively to the Board’s role in the formulation and review of strategy, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
- Ensure that all policies are implemented, monitored and reports are acted upon, (including the policies on Harassment and Misconduct, Safeguarding, Recruitment, Child Protection and Anti- Bribery).
- Appoint and support the Co-Chief Executive Officers and monitor their performance.
Additional Specific Responsibilities
In addition to the above, we are looking for a Trustee who can be the Chair Designate and assume the role of Chair in December 2025.

1. Terms of Service.

- To ensure that the policies of the Board are compliant with its charity objectives.

- Make recommendations on the composition of the Board, with a view to succession, and future Chair.
- To serve as an additional spokesman for, and promoter of Vision Action (Note: The Co-Chief Executives act as the primary spokespeople)
3.2 To ensure Trustees develop overall strategy and policy objectives and regularly review them:
- To incorporate the skills and experience of the trustees and the Co-Chief Executives’ team in the development of strategic objectives and planning processes.
- Identify with the Co-Chief Executives, clear objectives and key performance indicators
3.3 Helping the Co-Chief Executives achieve Vision Action’s mission:
- The Chair should always adopt an attitude of strategic overview and avoid becoming immersed in the day-to- day details of running Vision Action. Such matters are the responsibility of the Co-Chief Executives.
- To support and monitor the work of the Co-Chief Executives.
- To assist in the promotion of Vision Action to a wider audience of potential donors and beneficiaries.
- To undertake a supportive role in achieving Vision Action’s fundraising target.
3.4 Optimising the relationship between the Board, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders:
- In consultation with the Co-Chief Executives, to agree the annual calendar of Board meetings and major events involving Vision Action.
- To thank and encourage Vision Action volunteers, staff and other stakeholders as opportunities present themselves.
- To conduct the annual appraisal of the Co-Chief Executives and agree their annual objectives and performance measures.

What we’re looking for:
- Are you an experienced leader in Health and Social Care looking to make a real difference?
- As a Trustee, you will bring your expertise to help guide strategy, strengthen governance, compliance, and support teams to deliver exceptional care and support to customers.
- Ideally you will have been a trustee previously although this is not essential.
What you’ll do:
- Attend quarterly Board meetings, and be a member of one of two sub-committees, Assurance and Quality or Resources, which includes Finance.
- You will also go out to meet customers and staff and support at least one of the management team in helping them to achieve the organisation's objectives.

The Farm Animal Sanctuary was established nearly 40 years ago. We have, since then, rescued animals from neglect, abuse, or offered a forever home to those who need it. The animals are cared for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The animals who live with us are more than just residents—they’re part of our family. They are cared for by a truly dedicated team of staff and volunteers. We are entering a new and exciting phase for the charity, where we are wanting to expand our reach, increase our visibility, and raise much needed funds for the charity to ensure the lives of our animals are supported for many many years to come. From Tiny the goat, Neville the sheep, Twiglet the pig, and Judy the chicken, they are all at the heart of what we do. Trustees play a vital role in supporting our residents, its rewards are vast, and you'll be making a real difference.
Meetings take place 1x per month and are expected to last no more than 2 hrs.

Who are we looking for?
We are seeking three new Trustees to join our experienced and committed Board, bringing expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Public health
We are seeking a Trustee with strong clinical or public health expertise, ideally a senior NHS or private healthcare leader, perhaps a medic, head of social work or an expert in public health education. You will bring a deep understanding of the health and social care landscape, the challenges facing our system and the opportunities to normalise conversations about death and improve access, equity and outcomes for patients and families.
Your insight will help us strengthen our focus on population health, health inequalities and how hospice care integrates within the wider system of care. This expertise will be central to ensuring our care is not only clinically excellent but also socially responsive, supporting our commitment to quality assurance and the continuous improvement of our services.
- Communities
We are looking for a well-connected, outreach-focused leader with a strong understanding of community engagement, inclusion and partnership building. You might come from a local authority, charity, health, education or faith background; what matters most is your ability to forge relationships, influence across diverse networks and champion the Hospice’s cause. Your insight will help us deepen our reach and relationships across the varied communities we serve, ensuring that everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, can access the care and support they need. You will bring strategic perspective, empathy and authenticity, helping us to keep inclusion, equity and belonging at the heart of everything we do.
- Digital fundraising / Marketing and engagement
We are seeking a digitally minded Trustee who understands how technology and innovation can transform engagement and fundraising. You may have experience in digital marketing, e-commerce, brand engagement or online community building. Your expertise will help us explore new and creative ways to connect with supporters, enhance our brand presence and grow sustainable income. You’ll bring strategic thinking and a passion for using digital tools to strengthen communication, relationships and storytelling, helping us reach and inspire people who want to make a difference.
Alongside your specialist expertise, you will be a strategic thinker, motivated by social purpose and community impact and committed to upholding the Hospice’s values: Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
We’re looking for people who can bring curiosity, challenge and enthusiasm to our Board discussions, helping us plan for the future, seize opportunities and make confident, evidence-informed decisions. Who we are
The National Autistic Society (NAS) is the UK’s leading charity for autistic people and one of the country’s major charities, with a turnover of around £100 million. Since 1962, we’ve been transforming lives, changing attitudes and helping to create a society that works for autistic adults and children.
We are active across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and have a network of volunteer-run branches across the UK. As well as adult services and schools, we run a range of programmes, have dedicated diagnostic services and run specialist helplines. We also work closely with businesses, local authorities and the government to help them provide more autism-friendly spaces, deliver better services and improve laws. And we improve public understanding of autism and the difficulties many autistic people face.
We’re continuing to advocate on longstanding issues such as social care funding and campaign for what autistic people need to see in the forthcoming autism strategy in England and its equivalent in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. We’re also growing our branch network – including national online branches – and we are working on a new mental health programme combining research, digital guidance and policy influencing.
This is a truly transformational and vital time to be part of our Charity. We are in the latter stages of our Vision to Reality Strategy for 2023-2026, which sets out the role of NAS in creating a society that works for autistic people.
We’re proud of what we’ve achieved – but there’s always more to be done. As the economic, social and political landscape changes, our strategy must evolve to reflect changes. We need to ensure we continue to increase our fundraising and commercial activities to deliver the scale of impact required.

- Our Schools Governance Group
We are also looking for two Trustees to join our School Governance Group, one who will chair the committee and one who will be a member of the committee. Our family of schools includes our four independent specialist schools, supporting children and young people from the age of 4 to 22. We aim to make sure we are continually challenging our schools, keeping everyone safe, monitoring their progress and getting the best possible outcomes for all of our pupils in all of our schools.
Previously, we carried out a review of the local governance arrangements of our schools. Historically, the independent schools in NAS were governed locally by an LGB, which brought excellent opportunities for partnership working; however, as time went on, we required a model that would ensure consistency of challenge, support and monitoring across all our schools. We have amended our LGBs locally; the groups focus on partnership working, whilst the strategic direction, development, challenge and support for the executive, assurance and governance sits firmly with our Schools Governance Group as a sub-committee of the trustee board.
Our new Chair of the Schools Governance Group will have strong knowledge and experience of schools, school governance, the DfE and Ofsted and be a senior leader with experience in education and special educational needs. The new Chair of the committee will work closely with our Director of Education and Children’s Services, Chief Executive, Chair of the Board, Chair of the Independent Safeguarding Committee and our Trustee with safeguarding expertise.
The additional member of this committee will be someone who brings strong experience and insight in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and safeguarding. Your expertise will play a vital role in ensuring that our culture and decision-making processes fully reflect best practice in supporting children and young people with SEND, and in maintaining the highest standards of safety and well-being across our organisation.
- Chair of Quality & Assurance Committee
Our current Chair of the Quality and Assurance Committee will shortly be completing their term and we seek a successor with a strong background in adult social care and safeguarding, as well as a solid understanding of commissioning.
This is an opportunity for someone who can offer both constructive challenge and thoughtful support — a person who brings insight, curiosity and a balanced perspective to complex discussions. The ideal candidate will combine strategic oversight with a collaborative and compassionate approach, helping to ensure that quality, safety and continuous improvement remain at the heart of our work. They will be confident in asking the right questions, guiding reflective debate and fostering a culture of openness and accountability across the Committee and the wider organisation.

- Time Commitment
The National Autistic Society Board meets four times, with one overnight strategy away day every year. Our meetings are a blend of face-to-face and virtual meetings. Our Trustees with education experience will join our School Governance Group, which meets quarterly, usually online. Our Quality & Assurance Committee also meets quarterly. We expect the overall time commitment to be approximately one day per month, including reading board papers, ad hoc conversations with board members and the executive and the opportunity throughout the year to visit our services and schools, as well as represent NAS at events.
