Board Leadership & Governance
- Chair Board meetings every 1–2 months, setting clear agendas in collaboration with the CEO.

- Provide 1:1 support and mentorship to the CEO, fostering leadership development and succession planning.
Financial Stewardship
- Work alongside the Treasurer and CEO to oversee financial health and sustainability.
- Review quarterly management accounts and long-term forecasts.
- Support robust financial planning, risk management, and reporting.
- Present the Annual Accounts to the Board and ensure legal compliance.
Strategy & Development
- Guide the Board in shaping and reviewing the charity’s long-term vision and strategic direction.
- Monitor delivery against objectives and ensure mission alignment.
- Lead trustee recruitment, induction, and development to maintain a high-performing, diverse Board.
Risk & Compliance
- Lead quarterly review of the Risk Register and oversee the review of key policies.
- Ensure the charity meets all legal and regulatory obligations.
Reporting & Impact
- Oversee the creation of the Trustees’ Annual Report and support the CEO in developing an annual Impact Report.
- Ensure the charity is delivering meaningful results across programme impact, financial sustainability, and fundraising.
The Great Friendship Project is a non-profit organisation set up in 2021 to tackle loneliness amongst young adults.
We are currently seeking a new Chair/Co-Chairs to help us shape the future of St Nicks, leading the board through a new strategy and ambitious building development project. We are interested in hearing from people who would like to take on the Chair role in its entirety, or to split the role with a Co-Chair.
In addition to undertaking the role of trustee, a Chair will:
- Be a constructive partner to the CEO - building a trusting, cohesive relationship, providing advice, challenge and support to orchestrate the development of the organisation
- Develop a highly effective board of trustees – creating the environment for a high performing team, evaluating and facilitating improvement of collective capability and performance. Undertake periodic Board effectiveness reviews and, alongside the CEO, ensure that new board members are fully inducted
- Influence and collaborate with stakeholders - understanding the environment and systems that the organisation operates within and collaborating with others to collectively achieve the biggest positive impact
- Chair board meetings, ensuring that high standards of corporate governance and ethical, professional behaviour are maintained
- Work with the CEO to ensure that matters are brought to the attention of the board for their information and/or debate in a timely manner and that an atmosphere is created in which all Board members are encouraged to participate and challenge constructively and appropriately
- Conduct an annual appraisal of the CEO and provide regular feedback on both performance and any areas of concern raised by the board

Objective:
The Chair provides inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees in its accountability for Eikon’s vision, mission, charitable purposes and upholding its values whilst supporting Trustees individually and collectively in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the Charity.

Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Oversee and ensure that duties are fulfilled, strategies are established and that the Board regularly reviews risks and opportunities.
Governance: Confirm the charity’s arrangements, Trustees and systems are effective and comply with the Charity Commission Governance Code.
External Relations: Represent Eikon as an ambassador and spokesperson with external stakeholders, when appropriate.
Efficiency and Effectiveness: Engage Trustees while chairing meetings and documenting decisions and actions arising.
Relationship with CEO and Senior Leadership Team: Establish a strong, open, collaborative, supportive relationship with key team members; agree objectives and goals for the CEO.
Person Specifications
Personal Qualities: Strong and visible passion, commitment and advocacy for Eikon and children and young people’s mental health.
Experience: Track record of operation and achievement at a senior strategic level including both internal and external presentations and representation.
Knowledge and Skills: Strong leadership and motivational skills combined with financial management experience; understanding of charity governance.

The Eikon Charity is based in New Haw, Surrey, and operates throughout most of Surrey’s boroughs and beyond.
Remuneration
The role of Chair is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed.
Time Commitment
Chairing, in person, four evening Board meetings per year, a Board and Senior Leadership Team away day and the annual Audit & Finance Committee meeting. There are regular in person or online meetings and calls with the Chief Executive Officer and liaison with individual Trustees and senior staff on particular issues. Together with the CEO, represent the Charity at events and meetings with key stakeholders.Standard appointment term is three years.

Oxfordshire Youth

1.Charity Trustees
The Charities Act 1993 defined charity trustees as those responsible under the charity’s governing document for controlling the administration and management of the charity. This is the case regardless of the terminology used to describe the role. The trustee board at Oxfordshire Youth usually comprises up to twelve trustees, although there is no formal limit on the number of trustees, including the following roles:
● the Chair of the Board of Trustees
● the Deputy Chair and CEO Line-Manager
● the Treasurer and Chair of the Finance, Audit and Risk Sub-Committee
● the Safeguarding Lead and Chair of the Safeguarding,Quality and Impact Sub-Committee the People and Development Lead and Staff Liaison Trustee
2.The Role of the Board
At its most fundamental the role of the trustee board is to receive assets from donors, safeguard them and apply them to the charitable purposes of Oxfordshire Youth. The trustee board must always act in the best interests of Oxfordshire Youth, exercising the same standard of duty of care that a prudent person would apply if looking after the affairs of someone for whom they have responsibility. Trustees are ultimately and legally responsible for everything Oxfordshire Youth does. Trustees fulfil this responsibility by deciding the strategy, establishing organisational policies and implementing appropriate monitoring, reporting and control mechanisms to ensure and evidence compliance. Trustees appoint the CEO and, on recommendation by the CEO, appoint the Senior Leadership Team to manage all operational matters and the operational team in line with the approved strategy, policies and control mechanisms.
3.Duties of a Trustee
The statutory duties of a trustee are:
● Ensure that Oxfordshire Youth complies with its Articles of Association, charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations
● Ensure that Oxfordshire Youth pursues its objects as defined in its Articles of Association
● Ensure Oxfordshire Youth applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects. For example, it must not spend money on activities which are not included in the objects, however worthwhile they may be
● Contribute actively to the board of trustees by giving firm strategic direction to Oxfordshire Youth, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
● Safeguard the good name and values of Oxfordshire Youth
● Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organization
● Ensure the financial stability of Oxfordshire Youth
● Protect and manage the property of the organisation and to ensure the proper investment of the organisation’s funds
● Ensure appropriate safeguarding governance, processes, training and competences are in place to safeguard children, young people, adults, staff and others that OY may come into contact with
● Appoint the Chief Executive Officer and monitor performance
In addition to the statutory duties listed above, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve leading discussions, identifying key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives and evaluating or offering advice on other areas in which the trustee has particular expertise. Trustees must ensure that the charity has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and is focused on achieving these.
4.Minimum Time Commitment
Trustees are expected to attend an induction session at Oxfordshire Youth prior to their first board meeting. Trustees are expected to attend the four annual board meetings which last approximately three hours, these usually take place in the evening. Papers, proposals and reports are distributed one week in advance of meetings. Trustees may be asked to join a sub-committee or working group each of which have their own terms of reference and minimum time commitments. There is also an annual strategic planning board away-day or residential held each year.
5.Person Specification
Each trustee should have:
● A commitment to the mission of Oxfordshire Youth
● A willingness to meet the minimum time requirement
● Strategic and forward-looking vision in relation to the charity’s objects and aims
Independent judgement, political impartiality, an ability to think creatively and a willingness to speak their mind
● Good communication and interpersonal skills including a willingness to use tact and diplomacy to challenge and constructively criticize
● Integrity
● An understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship (although further training will be provided)
The board of trustees collectively needs skills and experience in the following areas:
● Leadership and human resource management
● Financial management, income generation and enterprise
● Safeguarding experience and expertise
● Public policy and public affairs
● National and local youth sector
For this position, we are looking for an individual to join the Board of Trustees who is currently practicing within the marketing, pubic relations and business development profession; or who has significant skills and experience within this field, and who would be happy to use their position to provide marketing, pubic relations and business development advice and guidance to Oxfordshire Youth.

6.Trustee Role Boundaries
Trustees in a decision-making capacity:
● As a board of trustees
● As a sub-committee
● Chair - delegated authority by the board to make decisions between board meetings where necessary
● CEO Line Manager - delegated authority by the board to make decisions between board meetings where necessary
Trustee roles outside of the above decision-making capacity:
1. Advisory role (i.e. offering advice in an area of expertise). In this capacity the Trustee is acting as Trustee but, as noted above, does not have decision-making capacity in their own right.
2. Volunteer role (i.e. participating in an operational working group). Here the Trustee is subject to the decision-making of the operational team-member who is in a position of authority. As a volunteer the Trustee is at liberty to withdraw.
3. Observer role (i.e. attending an OY workshop for young people or observing OY work). In this capacity they are acting as a Trustee but have no role beyond observing or information gathering for the purposes of strengthening their own understanding and / or board-level decision-making.
4. Champion role (i.e. spreading the message about the work of OY). In this capacity they are acting as a Trustee, helping to build the profile of the work of OY, with no decision making, but with the view of creating a positive image and sign-posting people to OY.

The role
We are looking for a new Chair who understands the growing demand for our services and the challenges of competing as a medium sized charitable business at this time. We shall look to our new Chair to build trust and engagement with our CEO, the Trustee Board, our volunteers, and supporters, as we capitalise on great recent work to stabilise and find new opportunities for significant growth.
The new chairperson will ideally bring health and wellbeing experience and commercial skills, as well as a demonstrable empathy for charitable working and commitment to the Nolan Principles of public life.
The role of the Chair is hugely rewarding and the scope under the leadership of the current CEO for Evolve to grow and innovate is significant. You will have significant senior leadership experience to drawn upon as you take ultimate responsibility for directing and inspiring the Trustees, making sure we are financially sustainable, and well run for our clients. Our ethos is to look upwards and outwards as we strive for a leading position in mental health services for all, and your commercial acumen, professional contacts, and powers of persuasion in business will be a huge support for our ambitions.
Including quarterly board meetings, committee sessions (at present virtual), a face-to-face AGM event, plus away days, and regular meetings with our CEO and the trustees, we anticipate a flexible time commitment of around 2 - 5 days per month.

About the role
The trustee will support the board, the CEO the Head of HR and wider senior team with advice, guidance and sharing their experiences specifically related to:
• Contributing to existing projects.
• Maintaining good relationships with relevant agencies and potential partners.
• Advising on Human Resources issues affecting Connection Support staff and volunteers.
• Assisting the tendering process for existing and new contracts.
• Guiding the board on addressing employee needs and advising on potential strategies that enable Connection Support to grow in the sector.
This is an exciting time to join Connection Support as we start our new three year strategy.
Time commitment
The anticipated time commitment for a Trustee is up to a day a month. Approximately 2-3 hours per month in person, and then 2-3 hours of supporting with projects which can be from home.
Trustee positions are not paid but travel and subsistence expenses are reimbursed.
About you
Our values are extremely important to us, so it is essential that your personal values align with ours, and you are passionate and motivated by the impact you can have by being part of Connection Support. We would also like you to have the following;
• Experience of UK employment law as an HR Professional at Manager or Director level.
• Creating and implementing staff and organisational development programs to support career development and staff wellbeing.
• Provide guidance on a myriad of HR topics e.g.; TUPE, remuneration, benefits, disciplinary, recruitment and training.

Previous experience as a Trustee is not necessary as we provide a full induction. We pair new Trustees with an experienced member and offer training opportunities to Board members.

Women's Aid Luton is seeking a visionary and dedicated Chair of the Board to lead and support the transformation and growth of our small yet impactful charity.
Women’s Aid Luton supports over 800 of society's most vulnerable women and children each year, helping them escape horrific abuse and violence. We provide a safe haven across our five refuges in Luton, operate a helpline, and offer bespoke assistance for families. Our services include access to legal advice, mental health support, employment assistance, and resettlement aid.
One of our refuges is dedicated to women from South Asian communities, with staff who speak Punjabi, Bengali, and Urdu. We also have a refuge for single women with complex support needs, such as mental health issues and drug and alcohol dependencies, often stemming from the trauma of domestic violence and abuse.
In addition to our direct support services, we focus on prevention and intervention by working with schools to raise awareness of domestic abuse. We are committed to disrupting exploitative and abusive relationships to prevent loss of life and reduce the long-term economic and social costs to society. Our services contribute to creating a safer, more compassionate community, supporting women and children from diverse socio-economic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, including those with complex needs.
With the current challenges facing our sector, we are focused on creating financial sustainability and resilience within the organisation, focusing on a robust funding strategy and a dynamic response to risk.
Our current Chair will come to the end of their term next year, and therefore we’re seeking a new Chair to support the charity in delivering our vital work.

By guiding our strategic vision and fostering a culture of compassion and excellence, you will directly impact the lives of countless vulnerable women and children, helping them rebuild their lives and find hope for the future. What are we looking for?
EXPERIENCE
- An understanding and passion for the violence against women and girls sector
- Significant experience as a non-executive
- An understanding of UK charity governance and working with or as part of a Board of Trustees
- Experience of operating at a senior strategic leadership level
- An ability to network with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Sensitivity and discretion in dealing with staff and service user issues.
- Significant experience and success in leading groups of people in either a professional or voluntary capacity to achieve results.
- Experience of chairing meetings.
- Significant experience of managing, motivating, and developing people.
- Strong experience of developing, deploying, and evaluating strategic plans with a view to maximising impact and benefit.
- Experience of financial management and a broad understanding of charity finance issues

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
The initial appointment is for a three-year term but can be extended for one further term for a maximum of six years.

About Youth Concern
We are an independent charity based in Aylesbury Vale, Buckinghamshire that supports 13-25 year olds. We are inclusive; we aim to support all 13-25 year olds, but specialise in helping those facing additional challenges.

Role summary
You will:
- Provide strategic leadership to the charity and the board, ensuring that Youth Concern achieves its mission, and fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation
- Work in partnership with the Chief Executive and team
- Lead the board in ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation
- Optimise the relationship between the board and Youth Concern’s staff and volunteers.
- Plan and chair the board meetings, with others (mainly and normally the Chief Executive) as appropriate
- Act as a spokesperson and figurehead for Youth Concern; be willing to champion Youth Concern’s work through personal networks
- Provide supervisory support, annual appraisal and ongoing development and input to the Chief Executive
Time commitment (estimated at two days per month)
- Attending 6 board meetings annually. Currently meetings last 2 hours and are held in person, with the option to attend remotely.
- Attend sub-committees as required, which are around 1 each month (although as Chair, you are a member of all sub-committees, so can attend more as desired/needed)
- Monthly scheduled meeting with the Chief Executive with flexibility to respond swiftly to the occasional ad hoc issue
- Attending an annual half day strategy session.

- Experience of being a trustee. (You do not need to have been a Chair previously.)
- Experience of working with or for young people
- Experience of leading organisations through periods of growth

- Oversee Youth Concern’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress. Whilst the trustee/treasurer takes the lead on this, the Chair is a member of the finance sub-committee
