Chronically Marvellous has grown quickly in the last 6 months, and our Founder Tash needs an administration expert to handle our office tasks.
The Administrator/Secretary will work closely with Tash, managing all behind-the-scenes paperwork and organisation. They will often be working remotely, but location close to Twickenham would be an advantage for visits to head office.
What will you be doing?
Issuing Mobility Aids: You will be keeping accurate records of our inventory, who is assigned stock, and responsible for ensuring that we replace stock when needed.
Customer service: You will be one of the contacts for our service users, whether this be for enquiries, for information about events, or to help with philanthropy.
Governance: We are a CIC with the potential to convert to a CIO, so paperwork within this role may be used to support our application (along with the CEO and trustees support).
Events: You will help us to plan events in the area, including our regular support groups, as well as our one-off fun days and training events.
Secretary: You will be the right-hand-person to Tash, who comes up with brilliant, ambitious ideas 24/7 (sometimes too ambitious!) so you would support her in this, as well as being a voice of reason!
The organisation keeps growing and adapting as we learn what our community needs as well as what we can provide, so this role will inevitably grow and adapt too. We would love to have some on join us who has initiative and can take ownership of certain tasks so that Tash can delegate some from her role.
We would love for the volunteer to be able to check in almost every week day (up to one hour per day) as we get requests often and love to respond as quickly as we can. However, we understand that life happens, and we will consider other schedule options with a great candidate.
All roles at Chronically Marvellous are subject to a DBS check.
Who are we looking for?
Organisation: You will be a very organised person, who can make order out of chaos! At the moment, our records are in good shape, and we would love to keep them that way. We'd love a reliable person who we know will ensure the integrity of the administration side of the organisation, and someone with initiative to say when a process isn't working.
Administration: You will have experience in a supporting administrative role, where you know what to expecting working in an office environment, as well as remotely. Our organisation's staff and volunteers are mostly in London, as well as across the UK and abroad, so being able to liaise in various formats will help you in this role.
Secretarial acumen: You will work very closely with Tash, who's mind runs about 100mph on most days. There will be ad-hoc tasks required, but within the remit of an administrator.
Fundraising: This role is not a fundraising one, however, every person involved with Chronically Marvellous is expected to assist with fundraising in some way. This could mean sharing social media posts for crowdfunding, attending our fundraising events and helping out, or by directly helping our fundraising team, if that's something you are interested in.
This is a voluntary position, so we recognise that any time given to us by a volunteer is precious, and for that we are incredibly grateful.
What difference will you make?
Chronically Marvellous is motivated by making a difference to the lives of people with chronic illnesses. Firstly, this role will greatly help our Founder to have less weight on her shoulders, so that she can focus on partnerships and truly getting to know the community. It will allow us to rely on an individual to keep our records in order, as well as an additional person who can make suggestions on how to improve our organisation. There are always plenty of new services we can provide, so you'll perhaps be able to shed some light on what works and what doesn't.
Please send us your CV and a short statement about why you are interested in Chronically Marvellous, and what experience you have for the role.
After shortlisting, we will contact potential candidates to offer a Zoom call with the Directors.
We believe in the power of community and are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those living with chronic illnesses.

An exciting opportunity to join the Board of Trustees at an ambitious charity looking to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds to gain gateway qualifications in further education and get back on track.
ABOUT GET FURTHER
Get Further is the first charity dedicated to providing high-quality tuition to students facing challenges in further education, adult education, and the apprenticeship sector. We aim to transform the experience of these students, helping them to build their skills and realise their aspirations for education and work.
Every year, 200,000 children – disproportionately from disadvantaged backgrounds – do not achieve the expected standard in crucial English and maths qualifications while at school, locking them out of many university courses, apprenticeships, and key professions.
Twice as many disadvantaged 16- to 18-year-olds go to further education colleges than school sixth forms, and yet for too long, the needs of students in further education have not taken centre stage in education policy or funding. We work in partnership with further education providers to prove that, when given the means, all young people can build the skills needed to progress in education and work.
TRUSTEE SPECIFICATIONS AND COMMITMENT
We are looking to recruit a trustee who has expertise and skills in one or more of the following key areas:
- Further Education (teaching/leadership/policy)
- Apprenticeship Sector

- Legal, including charity law
- Impact and Evaluation (including experience of large-scale evaluation and/or RCTs)

- Commitment to Get Further’s mission and values, including passionate about tackling educational inequality.
- Financial qualifications and experience within a charity, not for profit or business in a senior financial role.
- Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.
- Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement.
- Understanding/willingness to learn and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
- Good communication and leadership skills.
- Creative thinking, especially in ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion considerations are part of the charity’s decision making and strategy.
- An openness to challenge and question others.
- Willing to act as an ambassador to external bodies, charities and companies.
- A team-oriented approach to problem solving and management
DESIRABLE

The hospice has an Education Centre on site offering a range of bespoke training and development opportunities for our staff and partner organisations. We offer junior doctor training and work closely with Southbank University providing BSc and MSc Palliative care programmes.
Our care strategy focuses on meeting growing demand whilst still delivering care tailored to each individual. It also includes an emphasis on the teaching, training and support of family, friends and our health and care partners and providers.
About the roles
This is an incredibly exciting time to join the hospice, having recently welcomed our new Chief Executive — and with many exciting priorities underway including; a renovation and major upgrade of our ward unit, a continued focus on service quality and innovation, a new people strategy and an ambition to achieve even greater financial sustainability.

We seek individuals with a fundamental alignment to our charitable purpose and mission.
With exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, you will bring sound judgement, the ability to think strategically and offer constructive challenge and debate to the board and senior team.
Whilst we are open to a range of skills and experience, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates with a background in one or more of the following areas:
Digital, Strategic Marketing and Comms - For this trustee role, we are looking for an individual with experience in making sure an organisational strategy has a strong digital thread through it as we look to improve our systems and processes, look to raise our profile even more through an amplified digital marketing strategy and capitalise on technology as we develop our services.

Fundraising/Income generation – Our fundraising trustee will bring senior strategic fundraising and broader income generation experience, ideally in a charity setting with a national reach.
Healthcare – For this trustee role, we are looking for someone with current knowledge of the health and social care arena – the developments, challenges, wider healthcare market and opportunities, as well as the health economy. Whilst prior experience of end of life/palliative care would be advantageous, it isn’t essential.
For all appointments, we are looking for individuals who can provide trustee oversight on new areas and strategic priorities. Acting as a strong sounding board to the Chair, fellow trustees and the executive team, and able to provide strong strategic advice and overview.
We want to diversify the board and particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups.

Who we are
Fishing is one of the country’s largest participation sports and the benefits of angling have never been more widely recognised—the Angling Trust is the national governing body for the sport of angling in England as well as a leading environmental NGO, representing anglers and creating opportunities for all to experience fishing in a healthy aquatic world.
The Angling Trust has established itself as a leading voice in the protection and enhancement of the aquatic environment—we work across saltwater and freshwater environments alongside other leading partner NGOs as well as Fish Legal, our sister organisation, in advocating greater environmental protection, lobbying for positive change, and influencing political and NGO stakeholders in developing policy.
We are leading members of the End Sewage coalition and across the past 70+ years, anglers have done more to raise awareness of the mistreatment of our waterways and practically seek to improve habitats and ecosystems than almost any other stakeholder group.
In the past 12 months, we have introduced nearly 40,000 children and families to angling for the first time and engaged a further 20,000 primary school children through our innovative Reel Education programme. As an organisation, we have over 2,500 club and fishery members representing over 600,000 individuals—our army of national volunteers carry out thousands of water quality tests, thousands of community coaching sessions, thousands of voluntary enforcement hours, and we are rapidly approaching a million pieces of litter cleared from our aquatic environment.
Want to join us?
There are currently three vacancies and we would love to welcome those who can add to the mix of our board members by bringing new thinking styles, backgrounds, personalities, and perspectives to our table—and we believe we could make even better decisions if we had a more inclusive mix of people from under-represented communities on our board in order to more closely represent the wonderfully diverse world of angling today.
Email our Governance Manager, Karen Watkinson, to apply directly or arrange an informal chat about the role—and do let us know if you require any additional support to enable your application.

Queen Alexandra College (QAC) seek to appoint a new Chair of Governors to lead its board towards a future vision which will see them deliver a new strategy of growth and development in a place which is far more than a typical college.
Applications close at: 9 a.m. Tuesday 4th June 2024
Location: Harborne, Birmingham
Time commitment: 3 – 4 days per month
About Queen Alexandra College (QAC)
Queen Alexandra College has taken on many forms over the years. It has been based at its Court Oak Road site in Harborne, Birmingham, for the last 121 years.
We were initially established to provide education to young people who were blind or partially sighted. While we still do this, our 380+ students now also include those who are on the autistic spectrum, who have moderate to severe learning difficulties and who have physical disabilities. Each day, our students are supported by a dedicated team of 437 expert staff.
Our College is just one part of the wider Queen Alexandra Charity which also incorporates community services provision, residential accommodation and our wholly-owned subsidiary, QAC Enterprises, which offers a variety of specialist commercial services.
Our organisational structure is quite different to that of many other colleges. As well as being an organisation that provides education and training, we are also a charitable company – the Queen Alexandra Charity is made up of four elements: the College; community services; residential; and enterprises.
The College is the significant service area of the charity, attracting students predominantly from the West Midlands, but with one in eight coming from further afield. This means that we are currently working with over 35 local authorities nationally.
Operating on three west Birmingham sites, our provision has deep roots within the local area. Most teaching takes place at our Harborne Campus on Court Oak Road. Here, we have our fitness centre, sports hall and a range of specialist facilities which is also the location of our residential accommodation, supporting up to 24 students.
Our Umberslade Campus offers horticulture and outdoor learning and at the Pinewood Campus, the focus is on dedicated progression to work. Based in a business hub, it a feel that is distinctly ‘not college’.
We aim to maximise life chances, as well as develop independence and work skills. This is delivered through a range of provision including preparation for life, vocational and supported internship programmes and our LEAP curriculum which includes courses in animal care, design and production, hospitality and catering, multi-trades, retail and business and sport and leisure. Through our vocational curriculum, we provide courses up to Level 3 in a number of areas and our students can also take GCSEs in English and mathematics. We provide work experience, careers support, PSHE and tutorials — all are interwoven across each study programme.
We encourage our students not just to learn but to self-improve with the ultimate aim to ‘Empower Abilities and Inspire Lives’.
It is a testament to what parents and carers know about us, and to how students value us, that we have continued to grow; the demand for our places remains constant. Due to this, governors are in the position of needing to consider a growth strategy beyond our current strategic plan.
However, at a time when strategic growth is at the forefront of our thinking, there are also challenges ahead. On-site, we have a constant need to improve the quality of our provision and our student experience, ensuring we continue to evidence the positive impacts we make. Nationally, there are challenges regarding funding which may have an impact on our ambitions.
Given our aspiration coupled with the challenge, we now seek to appoint a new Chair to lead our Board — someone who can play a crucial role in helping us to navigate such issues.
About the role
Our governors are company directors and charity trustees, and they are responsible for strategic oversight of the charity’s activities.
The governing body has enjoyed stability for many years, drawing on a range of skills and backgrounds. This year, however, will see the retirement of three of our most experienced members including the Chair and the Vice-Chair.
At present, governance is conducted through the Board of Governors and through committees dealing with finance, curriculum, governance, remuneration and audit.
Our new Chair will not only play a vital role in leading our Board, they will also have a role to play on one or more of these other committees where their time and expertise allows.
In addition, our Chair of Governors, the Chief Executive & Principal, Beverley Jessop, and the Director of Governance, Paul Walker, meet regularly as ‘the triumvirate’ to consider business.
We believe this opportunity to lead our board represents a truly unique opportunity which will allow the postholder the chance to have an impact on our short, medium, and long-term strategy, whilst helping us provide first-class opportunities to our students.
Who we are looking for
The key ingredient to everything we do here at QAC is a passion for improving the life chances and opportunities of our students, and this is something that we believe all candidates will need to possess, along with a recognition of the impact that education and skills development have on our students.
We recognise that we are a relatively unique entity as both a charity and an education provider coupled with the other facets of our wider business. As such, we will welcome applications from people with experience gained from a range of appropriate professional backgrounds.
Primarily, our new Chair should be someone who has a passion for improving life chances of young people, perhaps with an understanding and knowledge of SEND, further education and/or social care.
Our new Chair will undoubtedly need to have previous governance and board experience. This could have been gained as a Chair, a Committee Chair or as a governor elsewhere.
Our College is a hive of activity with an inclusive and vibrant atmosphere. Our students feel safe, cared for and supported and our staff demonstrate their commitment on a daily basis. We hope that our new Chair will be a person who wants to and can contribute to this wider organisational experience; someone who will become a visible, familiar part of our College community.
Peridot Partners and Queen Alexandra College are, together, committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before any final offer can be made.

About the role

The Board’s governance is strong, and trustees are highly committed and engaged – bringing the necessary energy and scrutiny to meetings. Led by experienced and renowned CEO Caroline Jones, The Story Museum has a dedicated, engaged and talented executive team — all united by a passion for the importance of children’s storytelling.
The Board and Executive have a healthy, amiable and professional relationship, ensuring the organisation has challenge and support in equal measure.
The Chair of the Board is expected to:

- Act as an ambassador at external events with an eye to secure additional funding.
- Represent the Museum to key stakeholders, including Arts Council England representatives and funders.

- Corporate leadership experience at a board level (private or public sector)
- Experience in chairing Board meetings with an excellent knowledge of governance.
- Proven ability of helping to define, support and/or drive the strategic direction.
- A proven track record in stakeholder engagement, with a willingness to engage directly with funders, being mindful of TSM’s status as an NPO.
- Ability to listen, to consult and ultimately to be decisive.
- Ability to delegate effectively.
- Experience in monitoring progress against objectives and milestones.
- Experience in building networks and connections with a view to raising funds for charities and good causes across the not-for-profit sector.
- An experience and understanding of charity finance with the ability to monitor and interpret financial data.
- A passion and commitment to the values, purpose and activity of The Story Museum
- Professional or personal experience in one or more of the following: children’s story in its widest forms, publishing, education, media, the museum sector, arts, heritage and culture
- Being within reach of Oxford and Oxfordshire will make fulfilling the role easier.
- Candidates must bring experience of operating at Board level, with previous/current chairs, vice-chairs, and committee chairs especially welcome.
- A passion for the mission is vital, so experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable: children’s stories, publishing, media, the museum sector, arts, heritage, or culture.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong track record of senior strategic leadership experience and have a good understanding of governance oversight in relation to financial and senior management performance.

Many of our Trustees remarked that it was valuable to be pushed out of their comfort zone and how this has built their confidence.
