About Candlelighters
Candlelighters provides financial, emotional and practical support to families affected by childhood cancer in Yorkshire. We support around 150 new families each year and our work ensure the whole family unit is supported in these extraordinary circumstances.
We support children and their families from diagnosis and throughout their journey, including financial support, practical help in hospital, much needed breaks, as well as emotional and well-being support at our Family Support Centre (The Square) and in local communities across Yorkshire.
Purpose of the Role
We receive support from individuals, groups, businesses and organisations in various locations throughout Yorkshire. We often need to provide our supporters with resources and equipment, including Candlelighters merchandise, buckets and collecting boxes, pop up stands, marketing materials etc.
We are therefore looking for a couple of volunteer drivers to assist with transporting equipment and resources between the Candlelighters’ offices and our supporters, as required.
Key Activities
Activities will include:
· Transporting equipment and resources between the Candlelighters’ offices and our supporters, as required
· Agreeing collections with the fundraising team
· Liaising with supporters to arrange suitable delivery and collect times
· Collecting cash/cheques from donors and banking the money to the Candlelighters Bank Account
· Collecting and returning buckets and collection boxes to the Candlelighters’ office
· Offering a friendly and professional service
· Keeping accurate records and following procedures at all times.
Volunteer Requirements
· Due to drop off and collection points usually only being open during normal office hours Mon-Fri this role would be ideal for someone with spare time, such as a retiree or anyone interested in volunteering.
We are looking for volunteers who:
· Have their own transport (with up to date MOT and relevant insurance)
· Have a full, valid driving licence.
· Are friendly and approachable
· Have excellent communication and people skills
· Enjoy meeting new people
· Are reliable and well organised
· Are able to keep accurate records and follow procedures
· Are able to work independently and use own initiative
· Physically fit and able to lift resources and equipment in and out of a vehicle
This role is subject to a criminal record check, which is processed through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Please note that a criminal record does not automatically disqualify you from this role. We assess each application on a case-by-case basis.

What is the purpose of this role? To help with collections and deliveries of furniture, and transfer of stock between our shop in Sutton in Ashfield and our storage unit at Ransom Wood.
What impact does this role have? This role helps the shops to run efficiently and effectively, to be able to sell products for Age UK Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, which in turn, can be used to allow Age UK Notts to continue to run effective services for older people.
What activities might you be involved in?
· Travelling with the driver to pick up donated items (furniture, white goods, bric-a-brac, clothing, or a mix of all 4)
· Completing deliveries with the driver to customers’ homes
· Processing items at Ransom Wood storage unit when there is no room to deposit them straight into the shop.
· Volunteering in line with the Charity’s policies and procedures and adhering to the Volunteer Code of Conduct
What are we looking for?
· The physical ability to lift and move furniture and other stock so applicants should be physically fit and be able to complete these tasks
· A willingness to complete a variety of tasks both at the shop and at the Ransom Wood storage unit.
· An individual who gets on well with people to facilitate good customer service.
When would you be needed to volunteer?
The Sutton Shop is open Monday – Saturday between 10am and 4pm, and we are looking for individuals to support on one day each week (to be discussed and agreed following a successful interview).

You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role which will include a thorough induction.

Please note a Basic DBS (Disclosure and Barring check) is required for this role which will be undertaken by the Charity at no cost to the volunteer, after being offered the role.

We need a reliable driver to collect and deliver donations between our rescue centre in Whitminster and our charity shop in Stroud.
What you’ll be doing:
- Collecting, loading and moving donations
- Driving between sites to drop off and pick up items
- Unloading at each location and helping store items safely
