Job description

Prospectus are delighted to be working with a children’s charity and supporting with the recruitment of a Senior Policy and Public Affairs Officer role.

This is a permanent role and available on a full-time basis, part-time working will be considered (4 days a week). This is a remote role, where the postholder will be based in Wales. The salary for the role is £34,000 per annum.

The charity is seeking a Senior Policy and Public Affairs Officer to lead their policy and advocacy work in Wales.

In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of policy positions and public affairs strategies specific to Wales, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives. You will monitor and analyse political, legislative, and policy developments, providing timely insights and strategic recommendations to senior leaders. The role involves building and maintaining strong relationships with Welsh Government officials, Members of the Senedd, local authorities, and other key stakeholders, while representing the organisation at external meetings, events, and consultations as a senior spokesperson in Wales. You will also be responsible for producing high-quality policy briefings, consultation responses, and position papers, and for coordinating cross-organisational input into Welsh Government consultations and Senedd inquiries.

You will develop and deliver campaigns to influence public policy and raise awareness of key issues in Wales, supporting the creation of evidence-based policy through research, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with partners. You will work closely with communications teams to ensure consistent messaging across media, campaigns, and engagement activities. You will provide expert advice to senior leaders on Welsh policy and political engagement, contributing to strategic planning, reporting, and evaluation. Additionally, you will represent the organisation in Welsh policy forums, coalitions, and working groups to enhance influence and build strong alliances.

To be successful in this role, you will have exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and confidently to a wide range of audiences. You will be skilled at building and sustaining effective relationships and experienced in managing people where required.

You will have proven experience of influencing policy in Wales, including engaging with policymakers, politicians, and partner organisations, and a strong understanding of the Welsh political landscape and the social justice challenges affecting children and young people.

You will be politically astute, with experience in policy and public affairs, including lobbying at national and local levels. You will have experience representing an organisation at senior political levels and working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders. You will have strong analytical skills, able to use both qualitative and quantitative evidence to inform decision-making, alongside excellent IT, project management, and prioritisation skills. You will also be able to work proactively and independently with minimal guidance.

Desirable skills include proficiency in Welsh and experience working within or alongside the third sector, public sector, or advocacy organisations in Wales.

We are reviewing applications for this position on a rolling basis, so please submit your application as soon as possible, to ensure you do not miss out.
