SOFT UK is a national charity supporting families affected by Trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome) and Trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome). We provide emotional support, information, advocacy, and community connections to ensure no family faces this journey alone.

Purpose of the Role

The Regional Engagement Officer (REO) for Northern Ireland will build and strengthen SOFT UK’s presence in the region. This includes supporting families, developing local community networks, enhancing relationships with healthcare professionals, and coordinating volunteer and fundraising activities to reduce isolation and improve support access for families affected by Trisomy 13 and 18.

Key Responsibilities

1. Community Engagement and Support

• Build meaningful relationships with families affected by Trisomy 13 and 18 across Northern Ireland.
• Develop and facilitate local support meetings, coffee mornings, and family gatherings.
• Provide emotional support, signposting, and information in line with SOFT UK’s values and safeguarding policies.

2. Volunteer Support

• Identify, recruit, and train new volunteers within the region.
• Provide ongoing guidance, resources, and encouragement to existing volunteers to strengthen their impact.

3. Healthcare Professional Engagement

• Develop and maintain relationships with regional healthcare providers to increase awareness of SOFT UK’s services.
• Encourage and facilitate referrals of families to SOFT UK by healthcare professionals.
• Share resources and information to improve understanding of Trisomy 13 and 18 among professionals.

4. Event Coordination

• Organise and deliver regional events such as awareness campaigns, remembrance gatherings, and local fundraising events.
• Support national SOFT UK events by promoting and representing the charity locally.

5. Fundraising and Awareness

• Assist with regional fundraising activities by promoting events, supporting local fundraisers, and identifying new funding opportunities.
• Raise awareness of SOFT UK’s mission through local networks, media, and community engagement.

6. Administration and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of activities, contacts, and outcomes to report impact effectively.
• Work collaboratively with the national SOFT UK team, contributing to meetings, strategic development, and evaluation.

Person Specification

Essential:

• Proven experience in community engagement, outreach, or support roles.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with empathy and understanding for families experiencing complex medical and bereavement journeys.
• Ability to work independently and organise time effectively.
• Experience in planning and delivering community events.
• Confidence in engaging with healthcare professionals and external stakeholders.
• Basic IT skills, including email, social media, and Microsoft Office.

Additional Information

This role requires occasional travel across Northern Ireland. Mileage and travel expenses will be reimbursed in line with SOFT UK policies. The postholder will be expected to work from home and maintain confidentiality, safeguarding, and data protection standards at all times.

Job Title: Experienced Associate Independent Investigating Officers (IOs) for Stage 2 Complaints (This role sits within our Independent Person for Complaints (IPC) service)

Hours: Variable, according to demand for services/caseload and role in investigation

Salary: £25.25 per hour

Location: Associate Independent Investigating Officers for Complaints primarily work from home. Some travel may be required as part of an investigation – location will vary according to the referral received from the Local Authority. About the role

We are seeking additional experienced Associate Independent Investigating Officers (IO) for Complaints, to increase our capacity to respond to referrals from Local Authorities to provide an independent element to the formal Stage 2 investigations under the Children Act 1989.

The IO will lead investigations, and will give the complainant (who may be a child, young person or adult) the opportunity to express their view, ensure the child or young person’s rights and best interests are at the centre of the investigation and that the investigation/review process is open and transparent. They write a report on the investigation/review, which is submitted to the referring agency.

The Job Description document sets out the expectations for an Associate Independent Person for Complaints (IPC) who is approved by Coram Voice. IPCs are independent, freelance and responsible for their own work. Nevertheless, IPCs are accountable to the organisation for their professional standards and are expected to comply with Coram Voice Code of Ethics and Practice Guidelines.

The Ruby Project, is a specialist Housing First programme supporting women who have experienced VAWG and other difficulties such as, substance misuse, experience of the criminal jusice system, having children removed from their care, mental and physical health issues etc.

About the Role

Accountabilities

• Provide a high-quality case work support and information service to victims/survivors who have experienced domestic and/or sexual violence.
• Advocate on behalf of clients with external agencies where appropriate, including at the MARAC
• Provide Solution-focused casework interventions with women who have experienced VAWG and Multiple Disadvantage
• Provide emotional support using a trauma informed approach.
• Build and maintain supportive relationships with women.
• Contribute to the completion of outcomes reports and funding returns when required.
• Complete all documents when support work commences and keep up to date with any changing risks to or from the woman.
• Empower women to access benefits and services they need.

Job description

The London Programme Coordinator will be responsible for managing a caseload of up to seven partner schools, attending and coordinating weekly tutoring sessions, developing relationships with pupils, school staff and volunteer tutors and collecting data for monitoring and evaluation purposes. This role plays a crucial part in overseeing the quality of face to face and online tutoring sessions to ensure effective and impactful programme delivery.

Duties and responsibilities 

• Responsible for the delivery of Action Tutoring’s tutoring programmes in partner schools, whether online or face to face. This includes working closely to manage and effectively communicate with all key stakeholders: schools, pupils and volunteer tutors; leading weekly face to face and online tutoring sessions; leading on reviewing and improving programme delivery, using data to reliably assess programme performance.

• Responsible for overseeing the quality of both face to face and online tutoring, engaging in quality assurance processes, and providing feedback to volunteer tutors to ensure effective and impactful delivery.

• Develop and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders in partner schools, including members of the Senior Leadership Team and subject teachers.

• Work closely with branches, the Caller Support & Safeguarding Hub, and Central Office to ensure consistent, high-quality support.
• Help manage support for callers with complex mental health needs, ensuring appropriate boundaries and reducing dependency on the service.
• Be a key point of contact for police, coroners, court officials, and other external agencies.
• Support the triaging of caller concern forms and work closely with callers to create safe effective support plans that meet their needs within the boundaries of the service.
• Uphold Samaritans’ zero-tolerance approach to any abuse of threatening behaviours towards volunteers and staff

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone who:

• Has experience with working in a helpline setting, to support volunteers to deliver safe and effective emotional support to individuals in distress or with complex emotional/mental health needs, ideally in a helpline setting.
• Understands safeguarding legislation and has experience applying it in practice.
• Is confident managing sensitive and sometimes confrontational situations.
• Can work independently and manage a varied workload effectively.
• Has experience working with external agencies such as police and court officials.
• Is emotionally resilient and able to handle distressing information with professionalism and care.

We are looking for a confident, compassionate and organised practitioner to deliver focused family support with a strong focus on early learning. This role combines practical support for families with children and delivery of child development interventions such as Making it REAL and Big Hopes Big Futures. Duties and Key Responsibilities:

Direct Support to Families

• Hold a small caseload of families with children delivering up to 2 hours of support per week on a short-term basis.
• Conduct home and community visits to support early childhood development, build resilience and improve family wellbeing.
• Work in a strength based and relationship building way, helping parents recognise and build on what they are already doing well.
• Deliver structured early learning interventions including Making it REAL and Big Hopes Big Futures.
• Support families to develop a rich and positive home learning environment.

Volunteer Development.

• Act as the first point of contact for child development resources, ensuring they are maintained and distributed to volunteers when needed.
• Offer shadowing opportunities and depending on your experience, support small group learning or supervision. Help to provide ongoing guidance and encouragement to help volunteers build confidence and skills.

Planning, Events & Outreach

• Work with the Lead Family Support Coordinators to deliver early learning events and community-based outreach.
• Help raise awareness of Home-Start Southwark services through local outreach and networking to increase referrals of families and volunteer recruitment.
• Develop good working relationships with a range of referrers and other professionals including health, education and social care.

Monitoring, Recording & Partnership Working

• Carry out initial assessments, reviews and end visits with families.
• Liaise with referrers and other professionals.
• Make referrals to other organisations.
• Record all work accurately and in a timely manner using the CharityLog (our internal system for which training will be provided).
• Contribute to impact reporting by preparing case studies and success stories.
• Attend and actively contribute to team meetings, training and supervision.
• Follow safeguarding policies and escalate concerns following our procedures.

General

• Help with occasional community outreach outside core hours when required.

About the role 

You’ll play a key part in bringing our learning and development offer to life - designing and delivering creative, accessible learning that supports colleagues and volunteers to be their best.

At Prisoners Abroad, we support British citizens imprisoned overseas, their families at home, and people returning to the UK after prison. We are a small but powerful charity, providing life-saving support through some of the most isolating and traumatic experiences imaginable.
