A national charity dedicated to supporting individuals in the social care sector is seeking a new Chair of Trustees to lead its dynamic and mission-driven board. This is a confidential recruitment process at this stage – full organisational details will be shared with shortlisted applicants.

About the Organisation

This well-established and respected national charity provides vital support services, including financial grants, mental health resources, and advocacy for individuals. It operates with a small staff team, a wide network of partners and supporters, and a clear vision for change across the care sector.

About the Role

The Chair plays a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the charity and ensuring effective governance, while supporting the Chief Executive Officer. You’ll lead a committed board of trustees, represent the organisation externally, and ensure it remains focused on its charitable objectives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Board of Trustees
  • Chair bi-monthly board meetings and contribute to setting agendas
  • Support and appraise the Chief Executive Officer
  • Champion the organisation’s values and strategy
  • Represent the charity in public settings and at sector events
  • Ensure the organisation complies with charity governance best practices
  • Assist with growing and developing the charity
  • Support the board sub-committees

About You

We're looking for someone with:

  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills
  • Former chair experience
  • Previous experience of committee or board-level work
  • An understanding of good governance and charity board responsibilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and diplomacy skills
  • A strong and extensive network in social care
  • A passion for improving the lives of those working in and drawing on adult social care services

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the social care and an understanding of the challenges facing the care workforce today.
  • Experience in the charity sector.
