Job description

The Order of St John (also known as St John International) is a prestigious chivalric organisation with a rich history, and is an international development Charity. It aims to support its members and its establishments around the world in delivering first aid and health care services in more than 35 countries.

The International Office of the Order is a small but busy organisation on the cusp of expansion. It is looking for an experienced Communications Officer to work 20 hours a week (with some home working possible).

The Communications Officer will support the Head of Fundraising and Communications in delivering all the Order’s communications needs.  There will be opportunities to work within a larger communications team of a fellow charity.

Your duties will include:

  • Contribution to the creation and delivery of the annual communications plan ensuring all communication activity is delivered in line with our overall strategy and messaging;
  • Creation of content for online platforms (website and social media) to maximise the reach and impact of our online channels;
  • Development of offline collateral, such as leaflets, brochures and reports; and provision of content for such material;
  • Using opportunities to strengthen the communications between the worldwide St John organisation as “One St John”; whilst supporting a global internal communications campaign;
  • Support of overseas St John organisations with communications activities; providing advice for impactful content;
  • Partnership and cultivation of positive working relationships with colleagues within the International Office and the wider St John family;
  • Performing any other duties commensurate with these responsibilities, the skills and qualifications of the post-holder.

The Successful Applicant:

To be considered for this role, you will have at least 5 years working experience in a communications field, such as PR, Journalism or Marketing. Your creativity and thinking outside-the-box will go together with your strong writing and proof reading skills, as well as an eye for detail. An independent and reliable way of working without much guidance is as important as the capability to prioritise work.

This job will require you to work with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, as well as with a website content management system. Pre-existing skills are desirable, but not mandatory.

Closing date for applications: 13 March 2020, 5pm.

Interviews will be held week commencing: 30 March 2020.
