About You

You will demonstrate considerable cross-cultural awareness and an ability to communicate in a way that is sensitive and appropriate. You demonstrate an aptitude for collaborative teamwork and the ability to work independently on your initiative. It is expected that the postholder will be inspired by the work of USPG and in agreement with its Christian ethos and that they will be comfortable writing in a way which reflects this.

Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, we are recruiting for a Communications Officer who will coordinate our internal, Network-wide, and external communications. Ensuring excellent communications across the staff team, and the effective promotion of its work.

You will be a highly motivated communications specialist with a proven track record of internal and external communications. You will have excellent planning and prioritisation skills to ensure timely delivery of tasks, along with prior proven experience managing social media channels that results in an impact of campaigns and engagement. 

Key Tasks

• To create content and coordinate internal communications across the Network staff team, ensuring the effective development and implementation of appropriate channels 
• To develop and maintain a communications content calendar when and how the Network’s activity will be effectively communicated
• To coordinate communications across the wider Network, including PTCs, Regional Hubs, and partners, including through the production and dissemination of a regular digital newsletter 
• To develop, post and oversee content for the Network’s social media channels to promote the effectiveness of the Network’s approach and the impact of PTCs and commissioners 
• To establish and maintain appropriate media links to ensure that the reality of poverty, and the impact of commissioners in seeking to alleviate it, is effectively shared
• To support the Network’s parliamentary engagement and its national programmes to ensure that its work is shared impactfully

About the Role

This role is focused on delivering established communications strategies and plans over a 12-month fixed-term period. There is scope for the Communications Officer to work autonomously and creatively across teams, helping deliver engaging content and campaigns. About this Role

The Marketing and Communications Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing and promoting IAPO's mission and initiatives through effective marketing and communication strategies. The Officer will be responsible for developing and delivering advocacy campaigns and engagement activities, creating compelling content, managing social media channels, and amplifying IAPO's online presence and visibility within the global health community. Job purpose

The Communications & Marketing Officer is a key role within our busy Communications Team. They will support the wider Willow team in delivering on plans to raise the charity’s profile and increase supporter engagement. The Communications Team supports the communications needs of all teams across the organisation.

Principal responsibilities and duties

• Contribute to, and help to evolve, Willow’s communications activity, including emails, website, marketing and social media
• Work with the Willow teams to plan and deliver a regular calendar of content, ensuring the communication and marketing needs of colleagues across the organisation are met

About the Organisation

The charity is the independent champion of the UK’s National Trails – iconic long-distance walking, cycling and riding routes. Connecting people to nature and the outdoors while advocating for accessible, sustainable trail experiences. Since their formation in 2021, they’ve grown quickly with an ambitious vision for a high quality, nature-rich National Trail network used and valued by all.

About the Role:

As the Foundation starts supporting its third cohort of Scholars, we need an organised, communications focused and proactive individual to grow our capacity in two significant areas of our work: our regular in-person events, and our recruitment and assessment process.

You will take the lead on, and quality assure, all Martingale events including our Welcome Dinner for new Scholars at the Royal Society, autumn assessment centres, regular training days for Masters and PhD students, our week-long summer residential retreats for Scholars, as well as events for current and potential funders and other stakeholders. You will also help secure high-profile speakers from relevant industries. While these events will be delivered in collaboration with other members of the team, you will bring your event management expertise to drive forward planning and delivery, and ensure these events are of the highest standards for Scholars and stakeholders.

You will also play a vital role in Martingale’s recruitment and admissions work. You will be line-managed by the Communications Manager and will support in the dissemination of Martingale recruitment materials to relevant universities, student societies, charities and learned societies, to ensure a high number of applications to the Martingale Scholarship programme. You will also work closely with the Programme Manager and Programme Officer to deliver well-run assessment centres and programme events across England and Scotland. You will also support the Communications Manager through producing high-quality content relating to Martingale events, to be distributed through our social media channels.

Key Responsibilities:

Event management

• Research and secure high-quality external venues for Martingale events, and work effectively with teams at those venues to ensure events are delivered within budget and to a high standard
• Liaise closely with colleagues on event purpose, scope, and intended outcomes, and plan effectively using Martingale’s CRM and other project management tools as necessary
• Be the key point of contact for all events, including briefing colleagues and externals to ensure roles and responsibilities are clear
• Where necessary, work with the Team Administrator to ensure travel and accommodation is booked for staff, Scholars, and stakeholders
• Research and recommend high-profile speakers for Martingale events, acting as key contact for all speakers and trainers for events
• Conduct evaluation including post event debriefs and appropriate communication materials
• Lead on event wrap-up and embed learnings into future event planning

Recruitment and assessment

• Grow partnerships with relevant contacts to support our recruitment, including researching and connecting with appropriate organisations who are mission aligned or may have suitable alumni for Martingale Scholarships
• Disseminate materials on Martingale’s Scholarships to appropriate external stakeholders
• Help manage enquiries sent through to our social media platforms
• Work closely with the Programmes Team to book venues for Assessment Centres, and support with all logistics including schedules for assessors and candidates, ensuring a positive first impression of the Foundation for potential future Scholars

Communications 

• Deliver effective communication in line with organisational strategy
• Create high-quality content on Martingale events for dissemination through our social media channels, website and newsletter
• Manage Martingale’s collaboration with community engagement partners: Axiom Maths, In2Science, and The Brilliant Club

General

• As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended in consultation with the post holder.

• Managing multiple projects/workstream and priorities simultaneously, while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines. 
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences. Experience communicating with university students, staff and academics is desirable.
• Hard working, detail orientated, and systematic.
• Working in a fast-paced working environment and/or a growing organisation.
• Producing well written content for newsletters and other channels.
• Social mobility expertise based on real-word experience of delivering social mobility initiatives, with a strong preference for experience improving social mobility in higher education (desirable)

Benefits

• 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 29 days after two years of service and to 30 days after 3-years’ service. This entitlement is pro rata for part time employees. This entitlement excludes bank holidays.

Heart of the City is looking for a proactive communicator, who is comfortable working in teams and on their own to communicate and deliver an engaging calendar of activities that drive impact and support income generation. You will need to be able to formulate messaging to appeal to different types and sizes of businesses to partner with us or take part in our training programmes, all the while ensuring effective delivery of our events.

Details of Job

The Events and Communications Officer will work across the team to plan, produce and deliver a calendar of in-person and on-line events. They will also communicate our work to external audiences to drive the participation of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in our programmes and attract potential funding from corporates, grant-makers, and government bodies.

The post holder will work with the programme team to manage a calendar of online and in-person events and oversee the event process from beginning to end. The post holder will manage ticketing platforms, oversee event budgets and logistics and create event briefings to ensure alignment between external speakers and team members. This will include overseeing the set-up of IT and technology to ensure smooth event delivery and acting as a main contact point for external event partners. After events, the post holder will manage communications with external partners and audiences, log their participation in the CRM system and produce timely reports on event outcomes for the programme team contributing to evaluation and learning cycles.

The post holder will also work with the Director and programme team to deliver the charity’s marketing and communications plan. They will maintain and grow our brand identity and tone of voice by using social media platforms, paid advertising campaigns and creating original content for our website to share our impact, drive participation and grow our partnerships. They will also work with a variety of external stakeholders to share Heart of the City’s impact, grow our network and drive greater participation and engagement in our work.
