Region: National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire

Directorate: National Memorial Arboretum

Contract: 12 month FTC, Full Time, 35 hours per week

Salary: Salary range £25,813 - £26,550 per annum

The Role

At the National Memorial Arboretum, we believe in building on potential. As an Events Officer, your ability to be part of the team planning key events for the National Memorial Arboretum could have a real impact on people’s lives.

The Arboretum is the UK’s year-round centre of Remembrance and part of the Royal British Legion.

At its heart, RBL is a people organisation. People who want to do the very best for others, while at the same time making the most of the opportunities and experiences we offer them.

We are the country’s largest Armed Forces charity, with 210,000 members, 50,000 volunteers and a network of partners and charities; helping us give support wherever and whenever it’s needed.

As an Events Officer you will be responsible for being one of the initial points of contact with external clients, organising and delivering events and functions for the Arboretum, whilst building strong relationships with stakeholders and to maximise revenue generation for events and functions at the Arboretum.

If successful, the main duties of your role will be:

  • To lead on the planning and delivery of specific Arboretum Events, supported by the Events Manager
  • To project manage a range of client led events including, managing and overseeing the scheduling of events and functions in the Arboretums events diary and working closely with all internal departments and the Events Manager to communicate event plans and ensure minimum impact on the operation of the Arboretum
  • To manage the workload and direct the activity of the Events Coordinator and Events Supervisor
  • To carefully control budgets for each event where the Officer is lead and report on this at regular intervals to the Event Manager
  • To lead internal and external meetings relevant to the specific Events for which the Officer is lead
  • Support the Events Manager in organising the operational and logistical delivery of a range of internal, corporate and remembrance events as well as any ad hoc use of the Arboretum
  • To act as one of the principal points of contact for events
  • Assist the Events Manager in delivering all major events
  • Attend early morning, evening and weekend events as and when required
  • Deputise in the absence of the Events Manager

Please note that this role will be based onsite at the National Memorial Arboretum - Burton-on-Trent DE13 7AR. The post will be working a 35 hour week, on a 5 days out of 7 basis.

About the National Memorial Arboretum

The Arboretum is the UK’s year-round centre of Remembrance and part of the Royal British Legion. Home to over 350 memorials, including the nationally-important Armed Forces Memorial, it remembers the service and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve our country. The 150-acre site features around 30,000 maturing trees and an abundance of wildlife. Each year the Arboretum welcomes around 300,000 visitors, many of whom attend one of the 200+ events which take place across the site.

In March 2017, the National Memorial Arboretum formally opened its new award-winning Remembrance Centre.

  • A desire to provide great customer service
  • Enjoy and thrive in working in teams and with others
  • Passionate about supporting the ongoing development of the Arboretum
  • Come to work each day to be the best you can and to learn and develop

We want everyone involved in our work or receiving our services, to feel proud to contribute to or be part of a diverse and inclusive organisation.

We recognise that we still have a long way to go to ensure that we make the RBL a truly great and inclusive organisation to work for and be part of so we have set out our commitments to provide a clear path to deliver this ambition. We will keep listening, learning, and sharing our progress and impact.
