Your new role
As Senior Officer - Executive Office, you'll provide high-level strategic, operational, and administrative support to the CEO. The Senior Grant Officer will play a key role in assessing and administering grant applications, and in coordinating meetings with local voluntary Advisory Panels who help prioritise funding decisions.

The post will be a home-based role located in the Northwest of England, with easy access to the M6 corridor. Preferred locations include Lancaster, Preston or Warrington. The successful candidate must remain based in this region throughout their employment to ensure accessibility to meetings for location-specific funds.

Occasional overnight stays will be required, along with travel to our Head Office in Milton Keynes for team meetings up to three times per year.

RSG began as a community social group for refugees and asylum seekers with members offering each other moral support and advice. Lived experience or prior experience of working closely with refugee and migrant communities is welcomed, but not essential. What is essential is that you will be passionate about supporting refugees and that you are driven by a deep belief in inclusion, justice and human dignity.

The Employer

The British Society for Haematology (BSH) is the largest UK multidisciplinary Haematology Society with over 3,000 members. Our activities include running education events and courses (including our flagship Annual Scientific Meeting held in April), producing guidelines, awarding grants, and raising the profile of haematology.

The Role

The main role of the BSH Guidelines is to provide haematologists with up-to-date advice on the diagnosis and treatment of haematological disease and on laboratory haematology practice, primarily by the production of evidence-based guidelines.

The co-ordination and commissioning of the required guidelines is administered by the Guidelines Team, overseen by the Guidelines Executive Committee; and carried out by four Task Forces, each responsible for a specialist area: blood transfusion, haemostasis & thrombosis, haemato-oncology and general haematology.  In addition, each Task Force oversees 10-14 Writing Groups, who develop BSH guidance.

The post-holder supports the Guidelines Team, including coordination of activities of the volunteer groups and supporting liaison with external groups and organisations.

• Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise work and work to deadlines.
• Intermediate/Advanced IT Skills (Microsoft Office Package, Databases, Mailing Software, Web Content Management)

About the Role

The Co-Executive Director – Development & Impact will provide joint leadership for People’s Economy, inspiring and driving our team, community and partners to achieve our mission. About the Role

You’ll lead the financial strategy, planning and operations for the Orpheus Centre, ensuring sustainability, transparency and compliance while enabling innovation and growth. Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with Trustees and senior leaders, you will:

• Provide strategic financial leadership and insight to drive organisational success.
• Oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting and audit.
• Ensure compliance with The Charity Commission, HMRC and Companies House regulations.
• Lead on procurement, risk management and digital transformation in finance systems.
• Manage investments and oversee capital and operational budgets.
• Lead and develop a small, high-performing finance team.

This is a hands-on and highly influential role for someone who thrives on both strategic planning and operational excellence.

About You

You’ll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with significant experience in senior financial leadership — ideally within the charity and/or education sector.

You will bring:

• Strong understanding of charity SORP, financial governance and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience working with Boards and governance structures.
• Proven ability to deliver strategic financial planning and risk management.
• Excellent communication, leadership and influencing skills.

The Policy and Public Affairs Officer will be a member of the External Affairs Team. This role is designed to support the development and implementation BABCP’s influencing plan with a view to raising the profile and influence of BABCP amongst policy stakeholders and decision-makers to create positive change in policy. 

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

As a member of the staff team:

• To work collaboratively with other members of the staff team to deliver our External Communications, as relevant
• To contribute towards delivering our organisation strategy
• To contribute towards the values of the Association
• Promoting equity, equality, diversity and inclusion in every aspect of Member Engagement.

As the Policy and Public Affairs Officer:

• Keep up-to-date with current trends and activities by monitoring parliamentary and local government activity relevant to BABCP in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland; notifying and briefing colleagues of relevant political developments and opportunities to influence
• Support reactive policy work such as drafting consultation responses, parliamentary debate briefings and summaries, and letters to policy makers; working with the Senior Clinical Advisor and the Head of External Affairs.
• Liaise with the member engagement manager and the membership team on policy work ensuring member feedback is embedded into policy work.
• Support the delivery of parliamentary events to publicise BABCP’s work including identifying and engaging key stakeholders, managing attendance, preparing and distributing event information, and post-event follow-up.
• Support the Head of External Affairs and the Senior Clinical Advisor in the implementation of a public affairs influencing plan.
• Raise awareness and the profile of BABCP by identifying, and developing relationships with key stakeholders.
• Deputise for the Head of External Affairs if required, representing BABCP at external meetings.

Person Specification:

• Proven experience in public affairs and policy, preferably within the healthcare, public, or membership sectors.
• Experience of liaising with a range of stakeholders and implementing stakeholder mapping.
• High level of ICT literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and document management systems).
• Strong understanding of UK and/or Irish health policy and parliamentary and legislative processes.
• Excellent communication skills, and an ability to handle complex situations with tact and diplomacy.
• Outstanding spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex information into simple accessible briefings at pace.
• Effective relationship builder with excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Able to work effectively in fast-paced environments, and prioritising workload.
• Understanding the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion in the context of mental health inequalities.
