About Access Academia
Access Academia is the charitable umbrella which was created out of the creation of the student-led publication, the Journal of Intersectional Social Justice. When Journal of Intersectional Social Justice (JISJ) was created, there were not any expectations for the project to be any more than that: a student-led academic publication. However, as it rolled on, attention for the project widened and it began to cover other topics and get involved in other realms of knowledge sharing, activism, and content creation. The creation of the seminal Access Series on the Intersections blog springboarded the idea for the JISJ to turn into something much more than a simple academic publication. Now as we have restructured the JISJ into Access Academia, we are finalising our official registration as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) in the UK.
Our core purpose is to Make Academia More Accessible. We plan to accomplish this by many different avenues, as obviously it is a very wide-ranging goal! The main ways we plan to do this are through encouraging Open Access academia and knowledge sharing through the Access Series, expanding the themes covered on Intersections with additions such as Mental Health Mondays and Colonialism in Subject, creating accessible content across our social media platforms which encourages truthful and accurate knowledge sharing and activism, running research events to encourage students to publish and interact with academia, covering inside stories of academia, running student engagement programmes to try and make academia less of an Ivory Tower, and much more!
What is a Volunteership?
A volunteership is a unique hybrid opportunity that combines elements of volunteering and interning. Participants commit to working with a charity or nonprofit organization for a specified period of time, fulfilling a set of responsibilities and expectations. In return, they gain valuable experience, receive a letter of recommendation, and are offered LinkedIn endorsements. About Crisis

Helping us better respond to the needs of the people accessing our services. You know your community better than we do - by identifying and creating connections with a network of Eritrean organisations and community groups, such as churches and support groups, we’ll be better able to support Eritrean people who are experiencing homelessness or who are at imminent risk of becoming homeless.

Core tasks
- With the Volunteer Supervisor, hold focus groups with Crisis members to identify potential contacts within Eritrean community groups and increase our knowledge and cultural awareness of the Eritrean community
- Proactively source and arrange meetings with different Eritrean community groups to:
- Help link these organisations with Crisis so that information can be shared about the realities of homelessness in London and the work of Crisis Skylight
- Gain valuable knowledge about cultural sensitivities so that we can improve staff awareness and better support people from the Eritrean community
Who we are looking for
To be successful in this role we’re looking for someone who:
- Is fluent in English and Tigrinya and/or Amharic and can translate and interpret between them
- Is knowledgeable about the culture and practices in the countries where Tigrinya/ Amharic are spoken
- Has the confidence and motivation to source opportunities to link with Eritrean organisations and community groups and represent Crisis independently
- Has excellent communication skills and is confident networking and talking to new people
- Has good IT skills with the ability to use email and the internet proficiently
- Is organised and reliable, non-judgemental, patient and friendly
- Is passionate about ending and preventing homelessness for people from the Eritrean community
- Understands the importance of adhering to policies and processes, including confidentiality, safeguarding, data protection and professional boundaries

We are looking to recruit a trustee with Fundraising expertise to join Social Links, a new charity in the homelessness sector. Social Links delivers safe, structured befriending, where volunteers are carefully matched to deliver one-to-one befriending.
The successful applicant will join a Board currently comprising three trustees. In addition to this role, we will shortly be recruiting a trustee with communications specific responsibilities.
Key Objectives:
· Along with the rest of the Board, take responsibility for governance of the organisation.

Your Role as Chief Operating Officer
As our Volunteer COO, you will serve as the operational catalyst behind SUNSHINE. Your mission will be to ensure our internal processes and teams are aligned with our values and ready for growth. Working hand in hand with the Founder and CEO, you’ll be responsible for creating an efficient, agile, and sustainable operational framework.

Across 45 years, Artsadmin has produced a vast range of visionary artists’ projects all over the world and supported thousands of artists and arts workers at all stages of their careers. For the last 30 years, we’ve also run Toynbee Studios in Tower Hamlets, East London, with multiple rehearsal spaces to hire and home to an important community of artists and creative organisations.
We’re now at an exciting and pivotal point of strategic change, with new executive leadership embedded and a dynamic, reshaped programming team in place, focused on sharpening our impact, as ever centring artists in all that we do. We’re looking for 3-4 trustees with senior leadership or governance experience to help shape the future with us, including supporting the recruitment of trustees newer to governance next year.

We know that thousands of people in need of bereavement support are waiting to access ongoing bereavement support. We are now recruiting for additional volunteers, if you would like to know more about volunteering for this popular service, we would love to see you at our UYBO Open Day.
What will you be doing:
- Presenting and facilitating one off online group sessions for bereaved people with fellow volunteers
- Creating a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space to deliver practical bereavement information and guidance
- Facilitating peer engagement in small discussion groups
- Delivering clear messaging for onward signposting
Skills and experience you’ll need:
- Effective listening and communication skills
- Good IT literacy or an ability to learn (training will be provided)
- Access to a computer
- Comfortable talking about grief and death
- Empathetic and warm
- Confident facilitating discussion in a group setting
