We are looking to recruit a Support Volunteer for the Preston Group. As our local group Support Volunteer you’ll help people affected by MS find information about local and national services. That could be helping someone access local information about the care or benefits they need or giving them a hand with a grant application. See a video about one of our Support Volunteers here.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your listening and communication skills, as well as your knowledge of local services. Most importantly you’ll help people affected by MS to access the help they need.

You’ll take a lead role at events on the day and inspire your fellow volunteers to get involved.

Airplay is part of the RAF Benevolent fund and run by One YMCA. We provide youth clubs for children aged eight to eighteen which includes Ben Clubs for children aged 5 to 7 too. We provide a range of social activities in state-of-the-art facilities with sessions run by our friendly youth workers.

MAIN TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

· To support the provision of the Airplay and Ben Club activities and workshops

· Developing relationships with young people in a safe environment

· Supervising children and young people in activities, workshops and discussion sessions

· Engaging in learning and play with younger children

· Working with children and young people to track their progress

· Data entry/light admin work may be required

YOU WILL NEED:

· Good communication skills

· Knowledge/Experience of working with children/young people/families

· Ability to engage with young people

Chatterbox Befrienders offer one-to-one telephone support and will call a client once a week offering companionship and a listening ear for an individual who might otherwise go unheard. Chatterbox volunteers befriend a variety of people including carers, socially isolated individuals who are struggling with loneliness, people with ill health and those that have been bereaved.

This role could be for you, if you:

• Calling your client once a week for a chat of up to 45 minutes; this is a 26 week initial commitment, at the end of which each client’s needs are reviewed
• Completing an online call log record promptly after each phone call
• Ensuring immediate contact with the Chatterbox Coordinators if you feel that the client might be a risk to themselves or others
• Liaising with the Chatterbox Coordinator on a regular basis regarding the service, as well as discussing personal learning and development needs
• Respecting service standards, appropriate boundaries and recognising the range of policies and procedures that impact on befriending vulnerable adults

At Hope for the Young, our mission to support young refugees and asylum seekers in London as they overcome the many challenges of starting a new life in the UK. From navigating education systems to building confidence and social connections, our Volunteer Mentors play a crucial role in helping young people achieve their goals and fulfil their potential.

What You’ll Do as a Mentor

• Meet with a young person (mentee) once a week for 1–3 hours, usually in a local café, library, or community space in London

• Set education and personal development goals and offer guidance, support and motivation towards these

• Commit to mentoring for a minimum of six months

Moneyfacts Research Foundation has been set up to widen research and knowledge of Interest rates – their use and effects.

Moneyfacts Research Foundation’s Objects are:

• To advance by all available means the education, research and understanding of economics and, in particular, interest rates, their use and purpose and their economic, monetary and domestic objectives and consequences
• The study of the skills and expertise required in interest rate setting, data collection and analysis

Trustee Duties

In addition to their statutory duties, Trustees will be expected to:

• Attend Board meetings 3-4 times a year, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions and scrutinise board papers.
• Offer advice and support to the board regarding the continuous development and improvement of Moneyfacts Research Foundation.
• To assist the board in networking within the sector.
• Use their knowledge and experience to help the board reach sound decisions.

Person Specification

We are looking for trustees willing to bring energy and enthusiasm to the role, who will widen the diversity of thinking on our board.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience in the finance sector.
• Willingness and ability to understand their responsibilities and liabilities as a trustee and to act in the best interests of the charity.
• Ability to think creatively and strategically.
• Ability to exercise independent judgement.
• Ability to work collaboratively as a board member.
• Good communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
• Enthusiasm for our vision and mission.

Terms of Appointment

• This is an appointment for an initial period of two years.
• This has to be an unpaid voluntary position because it is a charity, but all reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
• Attend Board meetings 3-4 times a year. Currently meetings are held in person in Norwich.

The Charity’s main activity is the publication of INTEREST, a journal which comes out every 6 weeks to coincide with Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee meetings.
