About the role
You will work alongside the financial resilience project to deliver a programme of involvement activities both for Birmingham Hub and the wider organisation, making sure that the views and experiences of individuals with lived experience shapes and informs all of Shelter’s work. People can take part in a variety of way such as involvement groups, taking part in events within local communities, co-designing services and campaigns and speaking out about the housing emergency by sharing their stories.

About you
You will need experience of facilitating involvement groups and other activities to support and involve people with lived experience in Shelter’s work. You have a strong understanding of how lived experience of housing issues can impact a person and so ensure a safe and inclusive space where everybody can contribute. The ability to plan and co-ordinate involvement activities with local teams, with several activities running at once is important too.
You will have a flair for developing successful relationships with colleagues across Shelter, as well as external local organisations and partners. Also, you have some experience of presenting information verbally and in writing, as is IT literacy including case management systems, Microsoft Office, internet, email and online meetings.

About the Team
At Birmingham Hub we have around 25 staff plus volunteers and specialise in providing housing advice and homelessness work, with a particular focus on families and individuals experiencing multiple disadvantage. We work in partnership with a range of organisations to improve the underlying systems that prevent people from living securely in suitable, safe, affordable homes. We currently have a 3 year partnership with a leading bank which aims to build financial resilience and break the cycle of poor financial health which negatively impacts people’s housing situation.

Join Different Strokes, a national charity led by young stroke survivors for young stroke survivors. There are 100,000 strokes in the UK every year, and 1 in 4 of these happen to someone of working age or younger. We aim to promote independent stroke recovery and help younger stroke survivors to reclaim their lives.
We are a small national charity that really cares about what we do. We are currently looking to expand our team, and to devote additional resources to support our network of local groups across the UK, which provide vital peer support for stroke survivors in a face-to-face setting.
We have around 30 autonomous local groups, which are all volunteer led. As the Community Administrator you will work closely with our Volunteer and Groups Co-ordinator, and provide vital administrative support. You will be responsible for such activities as data collecting, ensuring group documents and paperwork requirements are up-to-date, providing monthly updates and ordering marketing materials.
You will help to ensure that all our group volunteers receive the support they require, and respect the autonomy that groups have to make their own decisions, while ensuring that they work within the framework of Different Strokes and that they meet compliance requirements. The ability to communicate effectively with group volunteers and other third parties, by phone, email and through online platforms, is essential.
The role would be based in our office in Milton Keynes. The willingness to undertake occasional visits to groups would be beneficial.
This is a permanent position for 15 hours per week. Very occasional evening or weekend work will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities
All activities will be undertaken in collaboration with the Youth Voice & Universities team.
Delivery
· To support delivery of the UN award-winning ParliaMentors programme (1.5 days per week):
o Being responsible for 2 teams of university students.
o Supporting 12 London-based students by: having 1:1 coaching calls with each of them to offer guidance and support; conducting sessions to support the teams with their social action projects and identifying area for development; conducting sessions to work through any team dynamic issues that arise.
o Supporting with facilitation of workshops related to social action, politics, leadership and interfaith.
o Administrative and logistical support (e.g., room bookings, processing reimbursements, coordinating student travels).
· To support delivery of City Bridge Trust (CBT) work (3.5 days per week):
o Responsible for overseeing the deliverables for this funder, ensuring all deadlines are met.
o Responsible for delivering four interfaith trainings for Local Authorities within London.
o Planning and delivering the annual Youth Interfaith Summit, the UK’s largest interfaith event for the climate.
o Coordinating the Youth Advisory Board, a group of young interfaith activists who will codesign the Summit.

- As Programme Coordinator – Event and Project Lead, you’ll oversee the planning and delivery of around 65 events each year, from mock trials and school workshops to teacher training and sector-facing events, ensuring every detail contributes to a high-quality experience for young people, educators, and volunteers. Horatio’s Garden is a nationwide charity creating and nurturing beautifully designed gardens in NHS spinal injury centres. We are seeking two creative, dynamic people with warm and welcoming personalities for the roles of Patient Support Coordinator, one for each of the following locations:
- Horatio's Garden Midlands, The Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries
- Horatio’s Garden Scotland, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
You will be responsible for organising and running a range of social and creative activities for people with spinal injuries and their families and friends to enjoy during the week and at weekends, creating an uplifting, friendly atmosphere in Horatio’s Garden and garden room.
Currently the programme includes crafts, quizzes, glass fusing workshops, felting, printing, talks, painting, ceramic workshops, seasonal celebrations with lunches, baking, live music performances and social afternoons.
You will need to be a highly organised person who is confident working independently in the garden and via Teams with the Events Programme Manager, Evie Redwood. The role is part-time, 10.5 hours a week, consisting of one weekend afternoon (approx. 4 hours), a weekday afternoon workshop (approx. 3.5 hours) and 3 hours of admin time a week. You will need to be flexible with your availability, working when patients are available – this can vary.

Key responsibilities for the role of Patient Support Coordinator include:

· Asking patients what activities they would like to do.

· Booking high-quality speakers, entertainers and freelance creative people to run sessions.
· Working alongside session facilitators to support them.
· Coordinating catering arrangements and serving food and drinks.
· Making posters and updating blackboards to promote activities, as well as advertising the sessions via word of mouth.
· Building relationships with NHS teams in the spinal unit.
· Handling the administrative side of the role, including risk assessments, ordering materials and budget-monitoring.
· Collecting feedback from patients, their visitors and NHS staff during and after the sessions.
