Role Objectives
Technical Expertise:
- Prepare accurate and timely management accounts, including income and expenditure, balance sheets, cashflow reports and fund tracking.
- Advise on financial systems and policies, with the skills to implement any agreed changes.
- Act as a finance business partner to operational teams, providing financial guidance.
- Assist with internal and external audits, preparing schedules and responding to queries.
- Prepare and submit VAT Returns, often under Partial Exemption scheme.
Client Management:
- Oversee a portfolio of clients in the not-for-profit sector, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor for their financial and compliance needs.
- Review and interpret financial information to provide insights and recommendations to clients.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Proven experience in a similar role and will consider candidates that have worked previously within an accountancy practice or within a not-for-profit organisation.
- Must have strong knowledge and understanding of the not-for-profit sector, including Charities SORP.
- ACA/ACCA qualified or working towards a qualification is highly desirable.
- Experience working with Xero and Excel is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the Service Team to ensure top-quality service and cleanliness standards.
- Provide leadership in pastoral and spiritual aspects for service users and staff.
- Manage the budget and administration of the home in conjunction with the Head Office Team, including administering invoices and invoicing fees, petty cash etc;
- Be responsible for all aspects of people management including administering the recruitment, selection and appointment procedure, maintaining staff records, organising duty rotas, issues relating to supervisions, appraisals, disciplinary, performance management, back-to-work interviews, grievances etc;
- Manage the training and development of staff in line with the Society’s Personnel Policies;
- Prepare monthly reports for Operations Manager, as well as produce other information regarding staff hours for wages to the Head Office Team;
- Carry out the duties of ‘responsible officer’ for the Home when you are on duty as required under Health and Safety, Public Health and Fire Regulations;
- Engage in the Society's strategic aims, foster community connections, including churches, to promote the Society's work, maximise home occupancy, and improve service users' quality of life.
Skills/Experience:
- Willing and able to take a lead in maintaining the Christian ethos of the home;
- Management experience in a business setting;
- Comfortable with writing business communications to staff and residents as well as authorities etc;
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels whilst maintaining confidentiality;
- Ability to lead, motivate and encourage staff to give of their best, and have people-leadership and management experience;
- Able to work under pressure and provide calmness in all situations;
- IT literate ( including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet);
- Willing to be flexible in the working pattern and are prepared to participate in training and attend relevant staff meetings.

Hours:

This new post will build on our Charity fundraising work which seeks to generate income from a portfolio of philanthropic sources, including trusts, foundations, individuals, corporate sponsors, and statutory bodies. - Be the Programme Manager for The Cumbrian Way programme including:

- Support the Church Planting Consultant with project management of the Church Plant workstream, including:
o maintaining & updating project plans/timelines

o accounting for risk mitigation and issue resolution
o advising and collaborating on project communications
o reporting on agreed outcomes and impact by collecting, collating and presenting information as part of project/programme reporting and monitoring & evaluation
o meeting with the church plant consultant on a regular (at least monthly) basis.

o supporting local church planting teams with budget claims and outcome reporting
- Oversee the programme management of all areas of the Reaching Deeper SDF funded programme
- Be principal point of contact and manage the relationship with the diocesan research partner, including managing payment drawn downs, agreed pieces of work/briefs and outputs to be delivered.
- Lead and oversee the data collection and impact for diocesan Parish Returns data collection
- Line manage the God for All Programme Management Office team

Sounds great, what will I be doing?
You will be supporting and motivating staff in achieving outcomes and meeting targets within a payment-by-results initiative focused on preventing or relieving homelessness among single refugee individuals.
This involves meticulous analysis of data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and the production of comprehensive reports. Additionally, responsibilities include building and managing relationships with landlords in the private sector, expanding the housing inventory, fostering connections throughout the council, overseeing referrals, managing financial transactions and budgets, and ensuring accurate data input and monitoring.

Here's what the team will be looking for
You demonstrate strong knowledge and/or relevant qualifications in housing and homelessness legislation, including the Housing Act and Homelessness Reduction Act, with a sound understanding of welfare benefits, welfare reform and Health & Safety regulations.
You have experience preventing and relieving homelessness, with practical skills in securing accommodation in the private rented sector, navigating tenancy agreements, understanding landlord–tenant relationships and local housing markets.
You have a proven ability to manage and support staff, including inductions, supervision, training, motivation, and handling grievance matters professionally. You also have solid safeguarding knowledge and can apply procedures effectively to protect clients.
You are confident coordinating work across multiple agencies, meeting deadlines through effective communication, organisation and leadership. You can build and negotiate strong partnerships to enhance services and secure positive outcomes for clients.
Highly self-motivated and able to work under pressure, you manage competing priorities effectively. You possess strong literacy, numeracy and record-keeping skills, with the ability to analyse information and communicate clearly with external agencies. You are flexible and willing to work outside office hours and travel when required.

- Build an effective volunteer team and provide training, development, work reviews and appraisals to paid staff and volunteers

To be a successful Assistant Shop Manager, you will be:
- An experienced assistant manager or Supervisor with the ability to maintain budgets and complete weekly income and banking sheets accurately, preferably with previous charity retail experience.
- Have a flexible approach to working hours and days including working weekend and Bank Holidays as appropriate.
- Willing to travel to occasional team meetings, training events and in the initial growth of the new retail train assisting with setting up other new stores.
- Passionate about the Mencap values and will strive to ensure our Retail brand is successful.

About the role
Medact is hiring for the new role of Fundraising Manager: Trusts & Grants to secure grant funds for the organisation over a critical one-year period. The new Fundraising Manager will be responsible for completing applications already in the pipeline, and then setting out a plan to apply for as many successful grants as possible in the period and delivering it.
The successful candidate will work closely with the senior leadership team and our programme staff, to identify, develop and write grant proposals to relevant funders, for both restricted and unrestricted income streams.
About you
This is a skilled role but you don’t need to have had a job in an NGO before or be a professional campaigner to be right for it. You might have successfully fundraised for a local community organisation or a grassroots campaign on a social justice or health issue that you care about.
You’ll have strong skills in developing and writing applications, with a strong understanding of the funding landscape and potential relevant grantmakers. You need to be a great communicator, able to translate the work of an organisation into language tailored for different funding bodies.
