What we need from you

Dynamic Trustees needed, with charity and commercial skills, to support mental health CIO. With an ambitious development programme up and running, we need to expand our Trustee Board. This is an exciting opportunity to join us at a crucial time of growing demand for our services. 

About Us: 

Evolve Counselling is a long-established charitable social enterprise, providing low cost, affordable or funded mental health counselling to adults in mainly Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Our counselling community is made up of 50 – 60 qualified self-employed practitioners, working part-time. We deliver talking therapies to adults – online and in person. Our service delivers around 500 counselling sessions per month to a broad range of individuals, many of whom would not otherwise be able to access counselling support. Evolve also provides supervision, reflective practice, critical incident support, and mental health awareness and related training, to organisations and businesses large and small. 

What We’re Looking For: 

Our Trustee Board is currently drawn from the counselling and therapies community, plus commercial and other charity backgrounds. Now, with crucial development of the CIO ahead, we are looking for new members to expand the Board to its maximum ten places and to gain skills and insight from an equal, diverse and inclusive group that takes in business skills, knowledge of charities, and experience of not-for-profit finances to make growth plans a reality. 

The Board will keep us on track with good governance through oversight of our work and will also help our keen new CEO to secure a sound financial base from which to grow our operations to meet the ever-increasing demand for our services.

Trauma Foundation South West (TFSW) help refugees and people seeking asylum who have suffered trauma, oppression and war, and those working with them. We are seeking a finance professional to join our Board.

What will you be doing?

Our Trustees work collaboratively to meet our legal responsibilities to govern the charity, including:

• Defining TFSW’s long-term direction and furthering its charitable purposes.
• Ensuring it is effectively and properly run with legal and other obligations met and being accountable to those with an interest or ‘stake’ in the charity.

We use board meetings to agree and oversee our strategic priorities, monitor risks, ensure sound financial management and confirm the charity’s assets are being used appropriately. All TFSW Trustees additionally bring individual skills and experience that are much valued. 

As well as different skillsets, there are three defined roles on the board: Chair, Finance Lead and Fundraising Lead, and three Trustees chair the sub-committees (they may be the same people who undertake the defined roles).

As the Finance Lead, you will oversee the charity's finances to ensure regulatory and legal responsibilities are met and comply with charity accounting practice and returns.

This is a voluntary role, but we can pay Trustees’ expenses. The time commitment for all Trustees is approximately 22 hours per year (under 2 hours per month).

Essential requirements for all Trustees are:

• Enthusiasm for contributing to TFSW’s purpose and able to commit the required time.
• Able, or willing to learn, to carry out the responsibilities of being a Trustee.

• A specific skillset that enhances the Board’s overall skills. In this case we are seeking Finance experience, ideally with financial or accountancy qualifications. We value and respect qualifications from outside the UK.

Our enquiries volunteers are part of a passionate team of volunteers that help Cats Protection signpost and manage these enquiries. This role will be focused on triaging phone calls received by the branch and passing it on to the relevant volunteers within the team.

RASASC Guildford is a charity that supports survivors of all genders over the age of 13 from across Surrey, who have been raped, sexually abused or have had unwanted sexual experience. 

We are currently recruiting for Support Line Volunteers (usually aged 23 or over) to work on our newly launched Support Line.  Our support line service operates from 6:30pm – 8:30pm Monday to Thursday, and provides a check in, listening and support service for survivors of rape and sexual abuse who have been assessed by RASASC for a 1:1 counselling place and who are currently on the waiting list for one to become available. This service is intended to reassure clients they are not forgotten and provide a safe space to talk about anything they wish. The wait times can be a few months to a few years. We ask that volunteers can commit to one shift every fortnight.

Volunteers are provided with an extensive training programme and are supported by regular supervision and ongoing training. The training programme will be a combination of in person sessions (Guildford) and online sessions.

While most volunteer work is done remotely, we do require quarterly in-person attendance at our Guildford offices for supervision (one evening) as well as occasional in-person training. Volunteers also commit to 1:1 telephone supervision and an online supervision session in addition to the face to face, these occur monthly on a rolling 3-month basis so each month there is a different type of supervision session also always in the evening and normally the second Tuesday of each month.

Puppy Support Volunteers support our Puppy Training Regions, to provide short term care and holiday cover for puppies/dogs from 8 weeks onwards. This ranges from a day cover to a few weeks care, maintaining the basic care and individual exercise requirements of the puppy as well as helping them to adapt to living with different carers and routines. To maintain basic training according to Canine Partners’ methods and continue behaviour plans for their development age, such as toilet training and loose lead walking, both in the home and in residential areas.

By volunteering you will:

What is involved

Care for a dog in your home as a temporary placement. This can range from days, weekends, weeks, months, depending on the charity’s needs.

What we require from you

• The primary puppy volunteer must be 18 years of age or over.
• You will need to reside in a house/bungalow/ground floor flat with a dog friendly secure garden (non-shared). Please note that we are unable to accept a townhouse for puppies under the age of 6 months due to health and safety risks to the volunteer and puppy.
• If you are a dog owner with no more than two pet dogs of suitable temperament, as assessed during the home check, you are welcome to apply.  They must be over 18 months of age and have lived within the home for at least six months.
• Commit to attend regular group classes even when without a dog (once a month) to maintain knowledge and application of the training expected when the dogs are with you.
• Practical and physical role with the ability to recognise your own limitations.’  For example, lifting and carrying a 12kg puppy
• Settling the puppy/dog into a new home requires time and patience. It can take a while for them to feel completely relaxed. Settling in period will be different with each puppy/dog.
• Keep in touch with your staff point of contact with regular updates
• Access to own transport to travel to vet appointments and meet your trainer, as required
• Understand that the dog in your care remains under the ownership of Canine Partners, and as such advice from canine Partners representatives should be followed.

Support and Training

• Induction process which includes submitting of an information form, telephone interview, home visit, training, and handling sessions
• Each volunteer is allocated a Canine Partners Puppy Training Coordinator as their first point of contact.
• Receive regular training, resources, and other essential information via your Puppy Training Coordinator, this may be in the format of verbal instructions, physical copies, digital instructions, video, and webinar resources or in person.
• No previous dog ownership experience is needed but you must meet the criteria listed above to be considered.
• Holiday cover and appointments cover can be arranged.
• Payment of expenditure such as mileage to and from a training session with a Canine Partner representative
• Access to our volunteer portal with many resources for your use.

Detailed description

You could be part of our exciting pilot project as a volunteer Parish Nurse offering life-transforming whole-person healthcare, working alongside Chaplains, Complex Needs and Housing Support Workers.

 As a YMCA Parish Nurse you would:

• Help service users identify issues and self-manage their wellbeing so they flourish in body, mind and spirit. This might be 1:2:1 or in a group setting.
• Signpost, support, and provide information and reassurance enabling service users to access NHS and other professional or community support as well as internal support from YMCA colleagues and projects.
• Offer spiritual care from a Christian perspective, such as prayer or acts of worship
• Be instrumental in supporting the project develop in this pilot phase

Training for this role is provided by PNMUK as part of their on-going programme of support and personal development for Parish Nursing nationally. The next course is 15-17th November with follow-up online sessions.

This project is being developed and lead by One YMCA’s Chaplaincy Team, together with our Medium Complex Intensive Support Service (MCISS) and supported by Parish Nursing Ministries UK (PNMUK).

The Chaplaincy Team offer life-transforming spiritual care and pastoral support. For us Chaplaincy is about journeying with people, inspired by the life, example and teaching of Jesus. Outdoor Learning Volunteer Officers are a key part of our team at Skelton Grange Environment Centre and are involved in:
- Supporting and leading environmental activities with young people and the local community.
- Planning and preparing sessions - and sometimes even developing new activities to help young people connect with nature.
- You will be trained and supported by experienced project staff and work as part of a team with paid staff, trainees and other Volunteers.

Typical activities for the Outdoor Learning Volunteer role include:
- Running environmental education sessions for school visits during term time.
- Running play activities for groups of children and young people during the school holidays.
- Keeping education day resources up to date and developing new resources, activities or materials as required.
- Helping with the general running of the centre and the project, including both development work and routine maintenance to ensure we are an inspiring location for visitors to experience nature.

Why we want you

Please note: This role is only suitable for applicants aged 18 and over.

We’re seeking friendly, reliable individuals aged 18 or over who want to make a difference in their community. No prior experience is needed, as we provide full training. If you’re open to learning, enjoy working with others, and have a passion for helping people, you’ll fit right in!

You have the time to become a volunteer in your community; you might be looking for work experience, the opportunity to meet new people, or keep active.

By volunteering with us in one of our amazing retail spaces you will be raising essential funds for Oxfam – all whilst learning new skills and meeting some incredible people.

What you will be doing

• Undertaking shop related tasks agreed with the Manager, for example:
• Selecting, sorting, and pricing donated stock.
• Chatting to customers who drop off donations and other members of the team.
• Preparing stock to be put out on the shop floor, ready for sale.
• Researching valuable and vintage stock.
• Photographing and listing items for the online shop.
• This role may include occasionally lifting boxes. We prioritise a safe working environment and provide comprehensive health and safety training to all volunteers.

• We ask that you are reliable and on time for your volunteering
• Full training and support is given for this role - no prior experience is required
• Happy to be part of a team and collaborate effectively with others

After you apply, the manager will ask you to come in for an initial chat. This is not an interview, just a chance to get an idea of what you'd like to do in the shop. From there, you can meet the rest of the volunteer team and get involved with whatever area of the shop takes your interest!
