Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust is the leading conservation membership charity in our two counties, and as we work to implement our ambitious new strategy for nature recovery in Leicestershire and Rutland, our Council needs to reflect a wide range of skills and expertise.
We are therefore looking for enthusiastic and committed people who share our values and vision to join our Trustee Council. All relevant experience will be considered, but in this round of recruitment, we would be particularly interested in hearing from applicants who have skills, knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Public relations and media
• Conservation management policy and/or practice
• Community outreach and youth engagement
• Large-scale grant funding
• Big Data management, visualisation and impact measurement.
Our Trustees (who are also company directors) work collectively on the Council with responsibility for governing and directing how the Trust is managed and run. The roles are voluntary and unpaid and, whilst prior experience of the trustee role is not required (and training is available), we are looking for people who are willing and able to commit time to both a programme of regular meetings and ongoing engagement in a range of Trustee Council activities.

As a Volunteer Events Assistant, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our mission by supporting in-person Teashop sessions. Responsibilities:

Role Description

Role Overview
We are a small charity and handle a moderate number of transactions each month using an online accounts package (Xero). We have an online bookings system handled through our website and online payments system (STRIPE). Book-keeping is managed in house by the Business Manager. Monthly payments approval would be required, supporting the preparation of quarterly management accounts. More input in March and April for preparation of the year end accounts and additional support in January - February would be welcomed to develop budgets, templates and invoice codes for the coming year.
Routinely, we look to our Treasurer for:
Monthly - Approval of online payments, review of management accounts and reserves, monitoring cash flow
Quarterly - Preparation of board reports (quarterly management accounts), review of reserves, preparation of latest estimate
Annually - Preparation of annual budget and draft accounts for independent review
On a Project Basis - Supporting our Director and Business Manager with financial aspects of bids and applications – project budgets, customised spreadsheets and assisting with reporting templates and coding of invoices (as new projects start)
Our financial year runs from 1st April – 31st March with the reporting deadline of 31st December.

We are proud to manage more than £17M in invested endowments and provide meaningful support to over 400 community projects each year.
Last year we awarded around £2m in grants, but our work has only just begun. In recent years, applications for grants related to poverty and disadvantage have increased by over 600% and applications for projects to support those suffering from mental ill-health have risen by 260%.
2025 will be our 20th anniversary year and our ambition is to grow our annual grant giving as we are currently over ten times over-subscribed. Significant growth is essential if we are to fulfil our role in ensuring that no one in Surrey is left behind.
As Trustee you will help us to set the strategic direction and fundraising priorities of the Foundation, ensuring that we function within the legal and regulatory framework of the sector and make the best possible impact on the lives of those living in our county. You will join us at a time when our communities are experiencing more disparity of advantage than ever before in our county.
The primary purpose of a Board Trustee is to work with the Chair, the Chief Executive, and the other Trustees to ensure that the Community Foundation fulfils its objectives and performance targets. To that end, he or she is required to contribute to the effective running of the Board as a governing body.
What are we looking for? Specific skills and experience.
We believe that it is vitally important to work in partnership in our county, to support those most in need in our communities. To that end we are seeking to recruit a number of trustees as follows:
- A Trustee who could bring governance interest or experience to join our Personnel & Governance Committee.
- Could be someone with HR interest and background OR
- Someone with risk management or legal experience
- A Trustee who has knowledge of Corporate Social Responsibility, Social value or Community Engagement.
- A Trustee with wealth management or investment management experience to join our Finance & Development Committee.
- A Trustee who will take the lead for the Board on our Funder Plus programme – this is the provision of pro bono support by business professionals to help charities with their business and financial planning. It is a relatively new programme for CFSurrey and we would like to grow and develop it to add real value to our grants programmes.
- A trustee who will take the lead for the Board on our exciting new Arts, Culture & Heritage Social Impact Fund. Someone who is passionate about the life-changing impact that arts, culture and heritage can have on people and can help us grow a new fund in this area.
For all the Trustee roles:
- The Trustee role is a voluntary position, open to all applicants, prior trustee experience is not required and a full induction programme will be provided.
- We are particularly looking for Trustees who can help us to ensure that our Board is as diverse as the local community that it serves in order to ensure a range of opinions and lived experience on our Board.
- Minimum engagement equivalent to one full day per month (typically spread out).
- Trustees must be able to attend 4 Board meetings per year (2-3 hours each). Offices are in Woking, and all meetings are hybrid to support remote attendance.
- And attend annual Board Away Day.
- And Trustees are also encouraged to participate in a minimum of one Board Sub-Committee (2-6 meetings per year depending on the committee).
- Trustees should also be able to commit to attending occasional Donor development events and/or visit grant recipient events from time to time.
- Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term of office, after which they may be re-elected for a further 2 consecutive terms of three years.
- Trustees are voluntary positions, but expenses incurred in their duties may be reclaimed from the Foundation with the approval of the Chair and Chief Executive.

• The Fundraising and Financial Management vertical covers fundraising and money matters: This team is all about finding resources—like getting donations and grants—to keep our programmes strong and healthy.They will spend their time writing fantastic letters, sponsorship proposals and funding requests on behalf of Barawak as a whole, but also (supporting programme leads) to specific organisations for Barawak service lines.
• The Partnership Development and Collaboration vertical covers building bridges: They're the connectors, making friends with other groups, businesses, and everyone who can help us grow.
• The Volunteer Engagement vertical covers welcoming our helpers: This bunch is in charge of gathering our most valuable resource—people like you who want to volunteer and make a difference.
• The Marketing Outreach and Advocacy vertical covers spreading the word: They tell our story far and wide, making sure everyone knows what we're up to and how they can join in.
Each vertical team works in two distinct ways: the first way is for Barawak as a whole, and the second way is in support of each Barawak service, feeding our programmes, like roots bringing water and nutrients to the branches. Whether it's Poverty Relief, Education, Employment Support, Community Engagement or Sports and Wellness, these verticals give the support each programme needs to blossom and bear fruit. Introduction to the Marketing, Outreach, and Advocacy vertical Lead role:
The Marketing, Outreach, and Advocacy Lead is the driving force behind Barawak’s communication, its brand identity and public presence. This strategic role involves developing and implementing marketing and outreach initiatives to amplify Barawak's mission and to advocate for the Afro-Hebrew community. It requires collaboration with trustees and programme leads to ensure consistent messaging and effective advocacy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Marketing and Outreach:
• Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and outreach strategy that promotes Barawak’s mission, programs, and events.
• Utilize a multi-channel approach, including social media, local press, and community events, to raise awareness and engage diverse audiences.
2. Advocacy Campaigns:
• Craft and lead advocacy campaigns that support Barawak’s strategic objectives and service lines, ensuring the community's voice is heard on critical issues.
• Build relationships with media outlets and influencers to enhance Barawak’s visibility and impact.
3. Support to Trustees:
• Provide the Board of Trustees with strategic marketing insights and advocacy support, enabling informed decision-making.

London Canal Museum is dedicated to educating and inspiring our visitors with the history of London’s canals – how they’ve shaped London’s development, the ordinary people that lived and worked on them, as well as the entrepreneurs who profited from them. We want to pass on the heritage of the canals so that future generations can learn about London’s industrial and social past.
Role Location:
London Canal Museum, 12-13 New Wharf Road, London, N1 9RT. We are a 5-10 minute walk from Kings Cross St Pancras tube and rail stations.
Role hours:
- One shift a fortnight, from 9.45am until 4.45pm
- The Museum is open Tuesday - Sundays
Role purpose:
The role of the Front of House volunteer is vital to the life of London Canal Museum – in small teams, volunteers in this role ensure the building is open and ready to welcome visitors each day, greet visitors and educate them about the museum’s exhibits and history, keep visitors safe and answer enquiries to keep the museum running smoothly across the day.
Key Tasks:
- Open and close the museum and ensure it is presentable and ready to receive visitors
- Greet visitors, welcome them into the museum and engage with them about the exhibits and history of the building
- Sell admissions, gifts and books, and ensure the till procedures are followed correctly
- Answer telephone and in-person enquiries
- Provide refreshments and assistance during group visits
- Maintain the various museum areas and ensure they are presentable
- Follow museum policies and procedures to ensure the building, volunteers, staff and visitors are safe and well at all times
- Training and support
All volunteers are line managed by the Volunteering and Training Manager, who provides comprehensive inductions and training to all Front of House volunteers in core areas including:
- Visitor Engagement
- Customer Service
- Health & Safety
- Accessibility in Museums
- Child Protection
- Retail Skills (including using the till)

3. Land management/estates.
Working closely with key stakeholders, we continue to develop a targeted approach to the provision of future services to tackle the complex issues facing the sector and increase farmer resilience for years to come. Our ambition was to quadruple the number of farming people the charity is able to support by 2024, which we have succeeded in doing; we will continue to extend our services in line with our 2025 strategy goals and aims, which will see us deliver holistic, flexible services that promote early intervention and increased farmer wellbeing.
A key ambition for the charity and our sector partners is to reduce the stigma associated with accessing support, develop wider stakeholder engagement, build an evidence library to improve and prioritise support, as well as introduce a social impact framework and partnership programme that focuses on pre-emptive services. These developments are being implemented to ensure that RABI will continue to provide vital support to our community now and long into the future.
RABI is focussed on empowering the worth and wellbeing of our farming people. Over the coming year, RABI is launching a series of events to act as a crucial first step to support collective actions that can bring about positive changes. Prospect Burma (PB) is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, CIO number 1167686. For 35 years, it has worked to widen access to international higher education for Myanmar’s youth, supporting pathways to international study and funding scholarships for those marginalised by ethnicity, gender, socio-economic situation, conflict or displacement. PB has supported over 1,500 students on its scholarship programme and hundreds more through targeted post-secondary programmes in ethnic states and on Myanmar’s borders. In 2023, PB launched Myanmar’s first online scholarship opportunity, and continues to respond in an agile way as the current crisis evolves.
