GUCE Project Manager Role

Community Energy is gaining momentum nationally, where people are increasingly coming together to  take control of their own energy supplies.  Grand Union Community Energy (GUCE, pronounced “juice”) is looking to see local communities along the Grand Union canal in Hertfordshire enjoy a clean and resilient energy system that benefits all.  We develop, support and promote renewable energy and energy efficiency projects for communities from Watford to Tring, and build householder resilience by helping them reduce their bills and energy use.

We are seeking a Project Manager for two days a week, to help develop the opportunities that are forthcoming. Depending on the skills of the applicant the same individual could also cover aspects of other roles we are looking to fill.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a person with experience in project management to join our small but expanding team. The Project Manager for Community Energy will be responsible for converting opportunities for local renewable energy generation and energy efficiency projects into reality. They will take projects from concept, through funding and construction to management.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Deliver new potential projects, such as opportunities with Watford industrial units:

  • Work with technical specialists to assess the energy needs of the community, including energy demand, infrastructure, and renewable energy potential (solar, wind, biomass, etc.).

  • Identify and engage stakeholders (local authorities, local organisations, energy providers, and residents).

• For new and existing projects: 

  • Develop and monitor an overall plan to realise projects including timelines, budgets, resources and risk management strategies in conjunction with the Development Officer / Project teams.

  • Manage share offers.

  • Communication with potential local investors.

  • Manage paperwork.

  • Ensure the projects are realised rather than remaining just good ideas.

  • Work with others to manage cross-functional teams, including installers, contractors, and local community leaders.

  • Coordinate with local authorities, regulatory bodies, and partners to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.

  • Foster a collaborative environment with all project team members.

  • Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring all costs are tracked, controlled, and aligned with available funding.

  • Work in partnership with the installer to oversee the procurement of materials, equipment, and services necessary for the project.

  • Track the progress of energy projects against objectives, milestones, and KPIs (key performance indicators).

  • Regularly report to stakeholders, funding agencies, and community members on project status and outcomes in collaboration with Project teams and Comms.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.

In this role, the project manager serves as a bridge between technical experts, local communities, and other stakeholders, ensuring that energy solutions are not only sustainable and innovative but also beneficial and accessible to all involved.

Terms and Conditions

Salary: Pro-rated salary for 2 days per week, £13,000 to £19,000 per annum (£34,000 to £47,000 full time equivalent) depending on experience plus 3% pension contribution.

Hours: 2 days per week (15 hours). The working hours can be flexible.

Location: Home-working, ideally within the GUCE catchment area from Watford to Tring.

You will need to travel to meet stakeholders, attend relevant meetings and visit potential sites. You may be called upon to work outside office hours.

Contractual arrangements: 12 months fixed term with the opportunity to extend, subject to 3 months’ probation.

There is a notice period of four weeks from both sides.

Holidays: The equivalent of 28 days per annum excluding Bank Holidays, pro-rata for the part-time nature of the post.

Thanks to National Lottery players, Community Energy Pathways has been awarded £1.5M from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the UK, to deliver its Community Energy People project over three years. Research Officer

We’re looking for TWO motivated and detail-oriented Research Officers to support the Association’s research funding activities and award portfolio.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a bold and ambitious research strategy that puts stroke survivors at the centre.

Position: CE376 Research officer (two posts)

The Role

Working closely with a friendly and knowledgeable team, you’ll manage the logistics of research funding calls, support peer review and governance processes, and ensure accurate tracking of award progress and impact.

You’ll be the first point of contact for funded researchers and play a key role in making research accessible and visible to wider audiences.

We have an exciting opportunity within our Communications Team on a part time basis for a Media and Communications Officer.   This post is for a one-year fixed term contract.

 The Down’s Syndrome Association is the only organisation in England, Wales and Northern Ireland focusing solely on all aspects of living successfully with Down’s syndrome. The Down’s Syndrome Association aims to create the conditions that all people with Down’s syndrome need to live full and rewarding lives.

The successful candidate will cover the whole spectrum of duties in relation to media and communication areas and needs to be able to think strategically and work operationally. You will lead the development of our media strategy, build and maintain a strong media contracts database and nurture relations both online and across other offline platforms.  Your work will amplify the voices of people who have Down’s syndrome and help shape public understanding through inclusive and impactful storytelling.

We are looking for candidates with at least three years proven experience in either media relations, journalism or communications.  An understanding of the key ingredients of success in developing relationships with local and national media engagement, as well as managing performance in line with budgets are also essential.

A valid UK driver’s licence is essential, as well as a willingness to be flexible about hours and location of work as there may be some occasional travel in UK with overnight stays as required. The post-holder will also be DBS checked.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Policy and Strategic Communication.  (The full-time equivalent salary for this role is £30,000 pa)

A part-time role developing, curating, delivering and finessing training for two distinct audiences – training for those who have low digital confidence, as well as young people, in how to use digital devices effectively and efficiently; and also training for those who may come into contact with, or wish to learn about, digital poverty, including staff of corporates and community providers. 

The former audience – learning about digital skills – will need to gain knowledge and understanding about the foundational elements of using laptops, tablets and smartphones.  This includes Essential Digital Skills such as setting passwords, connecting to Wi-Fi and using keyboards, as well as soft skills such as staying safe online, critical thinking and recognising fake news or AI generated imagery.

The latter audience – learning about digital poverty – will need to learn about the causes and impacts of digital poverty, what impact digital exclusion has on families and communities, and how to understand if someone is digitally included.

There may be other training requirements as well – such as training external users of our systems, training corporate volunteers, or a train-the-train model of supporting young people to work with those in their communities.

Key responsibilities

• Work with CEO and SMT to gain a strong understanding of the content we wish to deliver.
• Design a range of standardised training materials, developing curriculum plans, which are able to be tailored easily for cohorts.
• Work with the Head of Development to ensure training meets the needs of potential partners.
• Work with delivery and project officers to understand training requirements as they relate to specific programmatic requirements.
• Deliver training as the lead trainer for the charity, usually in person but sometimes online.
• Work with partner organisations to build strong relationships, especially when working with corporate volunteers.
• Create and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness of the training, gather feedback and finesse the training models you have created.
• Be able to run a train the trainer model for corporate volunteers, other staff, and young people on specific programmes, briefing them and ensuring consistency and quality.
• Work with the Head of External Affairs to produce high quality materials, including presentations, leaflets and other resources.
• Support marketing, project management, contract management and other functions delivered by other team members.
• Provide accurate reporting on the basis of feedback, participation and other indicators of current success.
• Take a self-sufficient approach to logistical management, whilst also working with colleagues where duties overlap.
• Keep up to date on developments in digital skills, maintaining subject matter knowledge.
• Maintain a strong understanding of the digital poverty landscape, including across policy, research and interventions, to inform training delivery.
• Work with colleagues to role model best practice in training.

The role is remote based - the whole team works from home - but you will need to be able to regularly travel across the UK including potential overnight stays and evening working.  You must feel comfortable being the person who sets up at a training event, and have a hands-on approach.  (The costs of travel are, of course, covered.)

Reporting to the Managing Director and in coordination with the Artistic Director and Deputy Artistic Director, you will handle the orchestra’s diary, lead on the production of projects and line manage the Orchestra & Tour Manager and our Production freelancers.

Your responsibilities will be:

· Attending all Chineke! rehearsals, projects and tours

· Working closely with the artistic team to assist on curation of programmes, keeping track of conductor/soloist invites and handling contracting once bookings have been confirmed

· Meeting with venues to generate interest in our future programmes and secure concert dates to build out regional tours around core Southbank Centre dates

· Keeping the Development Director and Marketing and Communications Manager up to date on projects and future plans

· Keeping track of our National Portfolio Organisation requirements with Arts Council and planning projects to meet our targets on the number of concerts in each category that we have committed to in each financial year

· Working closely with our important partners i.e. Askonas Holt, Southbank Centre, Woolwich Works, Royal Albert Hall

· Working closely with the Artistic Team and Managing Director to ensure that our performance plans align with our mission and 5 Year Development Plan

· Producing and negotiating contracts to engagements (conductors, soloists, with venues/festivals, tours, commercial engagements etc.)

We’re on the lookout for a Senior Internal Communications & Engagement Officer who can hit the ground running in our fast-paced team for a 12 month fixed term contract. This role is all about supporting and coordinating the delivery of engaging and timely communications for both our colleagues and members. You’ll be responsible for managing a variety of content across multiple channels, from the staff intranet to email publications. Job Spec 

Editorial & Design 

• Ability to produce fresh, emotive and informative content across print & digital platforms - including profiles of guests, news stories, blogs and speeches

• Lead on design and delivery across the organisation – digital & print: including posters, informative leaflets, presentations, graphics and images for social media, newsletters and website as needed 

• Work collaboratively across the organisation to solicit content from other members of staff, including caseworkers, operations and fundraising colleagues to support Communications’ strategic aims 

• Support the design of campaigns, appeals & events - working alongside the Head of Comms & Fundraising, and key members of the fundraising team to bring alive the vision of the campaign. 

• Co-lead on our work with content producers (photographers, videographers, designers, etc), ensuring content meets Glass Door’s standards and is signed off by appropriate staff members

• Maintain Sharepoint for digital content – including photos, social images, video and written content 

• Provide quality-control support (eg proof-reading and editing) on all materials outside of the Comms team and externally, ensuring all content, imagery and branding are consistent with house style and on brand 

• Create & deliver video content to support the digital strategy and on an ad-hoc basis 

Digital

• Manage and maintain all social media accounts in-line with Glass Door's social media guidelines, focusing on building awareness, driving traffic and increasing engagement

• Manage and update Glass Door's website in-line with the digital strategy and content planner 

• Co-develop & oversee a digital content calendar 

• Co-manage delivery of multiple/congruent campaigns, appeals and events to engage existing and attract new supporters, often working alongside key members of other teams including fundraising, operations and advocacy teams. 

• Support with digital marketing, working closely and collaboratively with the Marketing Officer, Head of Comms & Fundraising Team to plan, track and successfully deliver paid and organic digital journeys. 

• Monitor social media and advise key staff on any issues arising that could jeopardise the reputation of the charity, ensuring all Crisis Comms is managed in line with Crisis Comms Policy 

• Support the development and delivery of bi-monthly internal e-newsletters.

Monitor impact 

• Work closely and collaboratively with the Marketing Officer to ensure all conversions of paid promotion are tracked effectively and efficiently 

• Support the monitoring and tracking of website usage 

• Support the evaluation of social media and online reach, create monthly reports, and assist with evaluating the effectiveness of campaigns and appeals 

• Support the monitoring and tracking Google ads and analytics 

• Support the vision and production of a new website, ensuring it is on brand and meets our content and communication needs 

• Monitor, assess and report to relevant teams of our content performance to ensure our channels are hives of activity and relevant to our audiences.

Strategy 

• Co-lead on the planning and delivery of the Glass Door Communications Strategy – specifically on the digital and content plans 

• Support the delivery of Fundraising key deliverables – specifically on the digital content, stories and campaign key deliverables 

• Co-manage the Comms Team’s and cross org deliverables via project management platform monday(dot)com 

Events 

• Support co-ordination of events, by designing and delivering print and digital materials, online support to fundraisers, and representing the charity as needed in-person and online. 

Other

• Attend and participate in relevant team meetings, and other ad hoc meetings when necessary. 

• Undertake other ad hoc tasks as directed, such as assistance on Glass Door events and occasional administrative support to the CEO.
