Job Summary

The Head of Operations holds responsibility for our day-to-day delivery, strategic development of our services, and operational team leadership. As our new Head of Operations you will:

• sit on the PiP Senior Management Team and lead our team of circa twenty delivery staff. 
• ensure continuous operational improvement, working with SMT to develop our service and systems, through new projects or ways of working, and champion a learner-led approach to everything we do. 
• champion PiP meeting our regulatory and reporting requirements, manage key relationships including with local authorities, and hold budget responsibility across our service.

What You’ll Need

• Significant experience of working with people with learning disabilities, or a similar vulnerable client group, including knowledge of Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults (SOVA) processes.
• Significant experience of leading and managing a staff team.
• Strong understanding of and commitment to a person-centred approach to working with people with learning disabilities, including planning, progress monitoring and review.
• Experience of liaising with a wide network of agencies and sector professionals in support of student needs.
• Knowledge of national and local legislation and policy affecting people with learning disabilities, including personal budgets. Alongside knowledge of key legislation and processes including on Health & Safety and Risk Skills and abilities 
• Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, including the ability to maintain accurate records and produce reports for a variety of internal and external audiences.
• Able to take a lead role in the implementation of major tasks, including contributing to the delivery of key performance management targets and making organisational and systems improvements.
• Able to manage and complete projects successfully, including delegating tasks and monitoring and evaluating progress against outcomes.
• Able to establish, develop and maintain constructive and professional relationships with a wide variety of professionals and carers both internally and externally.
• Able to liaise and work closely with student families, carers and other stakeholders in planning, implementing and monitoring support.
• Able to take a flexible approach to work, including flexible and out of hours working in response to service needs and developments.
• Willing and able to participate actively in a variety of fundraising events and activities, including some evening and weekend events.

Literacy Pirates’ vision is for every child to have the literacy skills, confidence and perseverance to succeed at school and beyond. We provide free, after-school literacy support to children who are falling behind in class and who have fewer opportunities for additional support due to their personal circumstances than others. Founded in East London, Literacy Pirates’ programme now runs online and serves children anywhere in the United Kingdom.
 
Literacy Pirates is on an exciting journey of growth, rolling out our innovative learning programme to reach more children than ever before. An ambitious, fast-growing charity we have set ourselves a goal of reaching 3,000 children a year nationally, by 2030 compared with 650 this year. To support this, the fundraising team must double the charity’s revenue over the next four years, from £1million to £2million annually. 

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Trust and Foundation specialist with a keen interest in developing strategy and a flair for building strong relationships with funders. You will be excited to play a pivotal role in the growth of this charity, knowing the huge impact every new grant will have on the number of disadvantaged young people we are able to support. You will have significant freedom to design and execute a strong growth-oriented trusts strategy.

What we're Looking for

• Proven track record of securing significant multi-year grants from trusts and foundations. 
• Strong grant-writing skills with the ability to produce clear, persuasive, and tailored proposals. 
• Experience using AI to generate proposals and grant reports time-efficiently. 
• Excellent relationship building and management skills, with experience engaging funders and external stakeholders. 
• Strong track record of prospect research using a mixture of techniques and strategies 
• Experience representing an organisation at events and conferences.  
• Strong numeracy and experience in preparing budgets for funders. 
• Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities. 
• Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM systems. 
• Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people. 
• Commitment to the mission of improving outcomes for children from less advantaged backgrounds. 
• Knowledge of the education sector a plus, but not essential. 

Responsibilities

• Research and identify trusts, foundations, and other funding opportunities to grow Literacy Pirates’ funding base. 
• Develop a pipeline of high-quality funding applications to meet agreed income targets. 
• Write or generate compelling funding proposals and grant applications, drawing on organisational impact data and stories
• Place AI tools at the centre of routine content generation for applications and reports. 
• Build and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships with funders, ensuring effective stewardship at all stages. 
• Attend conferences and networking events, and arrange funder visits, meetings. 
• Track progress against targets and provide regular updates to the Head of Development.
• Provide support and leadership to the broader fundraising team 
• Contribute to the development of the charity’s wider fundraising strategy, ensuring trusts and foundations income complements individual giving, corporate partnerships, and community events. 
• Work with the Education and Comms team to ensure the right impact data and case studies are available to strengthen proposals and reports and contribute to organisation’s marketing work 
• Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of applications, grants, and funder communications in the CRM system. 
• Monitor sector trends and share insights on funding opportunities and best practice. 

The CAS Community Food Partnership is intended to support Food Projects (i.e., Foodbanks, Food Pantries, Top Up Shops, & Community Fridges to name a few) with capacity building and diversifying their operations – enabling them to support their communities and users, with overcoming challenges related to food and income insecurity. The project delivers activities across the county, with each Officer acting as a dedicated point of contact for each district. Activities range from supporting awareness raising of local services (i.e., Healthy Start, Affordable Food information, Cooking Projects) through social media channels to supporting Food Projects to become more resilient, including looking at their food supply chain and supporting the development of innovative solutions.

As the Community Food Partnership Manager you will provide strategic direction, and management to a team of four, and work with partners to ensure the outcomes of the project are met. You will have a good level of knowledge of infrastructure/capacity building support and be an experienced Manager of people. You should have an awareness and understanding of the challenges facing the voluntary sector and be skilled at developing partnerships, be able to demonstrate sound financial acumen, and the ability to navigate multiple priorities.

About the Role

This exciting Fundraising and Engagement Officer role will be part of the Fundraising and Engagement team to ensure that the delivery of Mind BLMK’s current and future offer of fundraising and engagement are effectively delivered. As the Fundraising and Engagement Officer you will be responsible for supporting the growth of income across individual, major donors alongside community and corporate fundraising.

In this role you will be responsible for implementing and administrating fundraising and engagement activities, supporting inspiring campaigns, optimising stewardship and attending fundraising events.

As the Fundraising and Engagement Officer you will work closely with the fundraising and engagement team in the planning and development of fundraising initiatives. You will monitor and maintain donor and fundraising data in accordance with the organisations policies and procedures. You will be involved in the planning, implementation of PR, communications, media posting, newsletter, AGM and any other appropriate organisational priorities.

You will have a proactive approach in working well on own and in a team and engage with the wider population of Mind BLMK’s workforce and volunteers.

Who We Are

Our charity was established in 1992, to provide care and support to people in Sussex, living with and affected by HIV. Over the past three decades there have been huge advances in treatment and care for those affected by the virus. People taking effective anti-retroviral medication (ART’s) can live long lives, with HIV becoming undetectable and untransmittable.

Whilst people who are living with HIV can live longer, many develop other physical co-morbidities as they age and many experience social and self- stigma. Our service users are often from marginalised groups, who often experience inter-sectional discrimination and health inequalities. Many of our service users experience socio-economic disadvantage and have multiple and complex needs.

The Sussex Beacon offers a range of services to people who have been living with HIV for decades through to those who are newly diagnosed.  Our services include:

In addition to our HIV services, The Sussex Beacon has announced that it is to become a fully inclusive Hospice, providing dedicated Hospice care to the LGBTQ+ community.

The Sussex Beacon has two charity shops in Brighton and an active fundraising team, who help raise the money we need to keep our services running for the people who need them across Sussex.

The Role

This is an exciting time for The Sussex Beacon, as we are about to launch our new 2030 Strategic Plan and move to a new era of delivery, through the evolution of our end of life and palliative care for the LGBTQ+ community.  The Sussex Beacon will be the first Hospice of its kind in the country tackling stigma and health inequalities for those who are most marginalised in our community.

This role will secure, manage and grow income from corporate partners, supporting The Sussex Beacon’s mission to provide specialist care and support for people living with HIV and its new LGBTQ+ Hospice provision. This role is responsible for building long-term, strategic relationships with businesses, creating tailored partnership opportunities, and contributing to the charity’s wider income generation strategy and its five-year fundraising plan. The postholder will work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to maximise corporate engagement and fundraising potential.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Partnership Fundraising at The Sussex Beacon

The Sussex Beacon has a proud history of working with corporate supporters who are passionate about making a difference. The Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser will lead on identifying new corporate prospects, developing compelling proposals, and managing a portfolio of existing partners. They will create and deliver partnership plans that may include sponsorship, employee fundraising, cause-related marketing, and volunteering. By aligning business objectives with The Sussex Beacon’s values and impact, the postholder will ensure meaningful and sustainable relationships that benefit both parties.

Team Beacon

Team Beacon is the charity’s fundraising event brand, bringing together supporters through challenge events, campaigns, and volunteering. The Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser will work closely with the fundraising team to integrate corporate teams into Team Beacon activities, encourage staff engagement, and develop sponsorship packages for major events such as The Brighton Half Marathon, which we own, and community challenges. This collaborative approach enhances visibility and fosters a sense of shared purpose among partners and supporters alike.

Business Networking Events

The postholder will represent The Sussex Beacon at a variety of business networking events, including LGBTQ+ network events, across Sussex and beyond. These events offer valuable opportunities to connect with potential partners, showcase the charity’s impact, and build strategic relationships. The Fundraiser will be proactive in identifying and attending relevant events, from Chamber of Commerce meetings to local business expos, ensuring The Sussex Beacon maintains a visible and professional presence in the corporate community.

Other Duties

· Maintain accurate records of partner interactions and income through the charity’s CRM system.

· Prepare regular reports and updates for the Head of Income and senior leadership.

· Work with the communications team to highlight successful partnerships and case studies.

· Support the wider fundraising team during peak periods or major campaigns.

· Stay up to date with trends and developments in corporate fundraising and CSR.

· Responsibility alongside fundraising for corporate events such as The Sussex Beacon relay and 5k inflatable course.

Over the last five years we have increased the number of individuals and organisation supporting the charity from 800 to more than 3,500 a year. The charity is set to build on this success and aims to continue this growth, so that we can reach more patients and provide additional support at a time when it is more critical than ever for kidney patients.

The Corporate Partnership Manager will play a key role in this growth. Our Corporate Partnership income has grown from zero in 2020 to c£2.3 million in 2025. It is a very exciting time to be joining the charity and our Fundraising team.

Primarily, you will be responsible for building engagement and driving new income via charity of the year partnerships, corporate partnerships, and employee fundraising. You will manage the Corporate Partnership Officer who is developing a growing portfolio of supporters across different sectors. You will also work closely with the Events Manager, Trust & Foundation Manager, Head of Fundraising and Director of Fundraising, Marketing & Communications as well as the wider Fundraising team to promote and support all opportunities to drive corporate income growth.

Alongside the Director of Fundraising, Marketing & Communications who takes a special interest in the charity’s Corporate Partnerships, you will be tasked with planning, implementing, and delivering the activities, programmes and processes required to grow corporate income from c£2.3m in 2025 to even greater levels over the coming years.

You will do this by stewarding the significant number of existing relationships and partnerships we already hold and maximising any opportunities that exist via our current partnerships and relationships. A key part of this role will require you to develop new opportunities and secure significant income (5-and-6 figure partnerships) through proactive engagement to and through our supporters, beneficiaries, networks, and contacts.

The right candidate will have a proven record of generating strategic partnerships that result in 5-and 6-figure corporate income, building strong and rewarding relationships, with stewardships skills that generate long term support for the charity. You will be a driven and enthusiastic fundraiser with experience of cultivating new relationships across a range of businesses and sectors.
