We’re currently recruiting two full-time Peer Support Workers to work in our Sutton and Merton offices.

These 2 posts are part of a partnership between local voluntary sector organisations and South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust. Both posts focus on offering a range of emotional, social and practical wellbeing support to young adults aged 18-25. These posts do not require a formal mental health qualification. The Peer Support Worker posts are designated for those with their own lived experience of mental health challenges who have reached a point in their recovery where they feel ready to support others on their mental health journey.  

For these roles you need to have an open and flexible attitude; an understanding of mental health; excellent engagement skills and a passion for working with young people. All posts are full-time office based and will require flexible working across service areas and interventions and will involve some regular evening and/or weekend work to meet the needs of young people. 

These posts offer an excellent opportunity to build skills and experience in the mental health field. 

Team: Night Shelters 

Location: On-site at Glass Door Night shelter venues in the boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham or Wandsworth 

Duration: 1 November 2025 to April 2026

Reporting to: Service Manager – Night Shelters 

Shifts available:  

• 7:00pm to 7:15am 

• 7:00pm to 8:15am (driver) 

• 9:45pm to 7:15am 

• 9:45pm to 8:15am (driver) 

Pay: £14.50 per hour, or £15.00 per hour when you are the designated driver for that shift. 

Job Purpose

As an Overnight Homeless Shelter Worker, you’ll be part of a small, professional team running Glass Door’s night shelters between November and April. Working alongside at least one other staff member, you’ll be awake and engaged throughout the night, supporting up to 35 guests who are experiencing homelessness. 

Your role is about creating a safe, calm, and welcoming space where guests can rest, feel respected, and be treated with dignity. You’ll build trust through friendly conversation, keep an eye on everyone’s wellbeing with regular checks, and step in when problems arise – from offering reassurance to someone in emotional distress, to calmly handling challenging behaviour, to calling emergency services if needed. 

Most nights are steady and focused on guest support, but there can be moments of pressure. We’ll provide training so you feel confident and prepared. You’ll also help serve a light breakfast in the morning and ensure our equipment is packed and ready for the next night – with one of you driving the van back to base.

Job Responsibilities

What You’ll Do 

You’ll be part of the overnight team making sure our night shelters are safe, supportive, and welcoming spaces for everyone staying with us. This is an awake, overnight role, you will be alert and engaged for the whole shift. Your main responsibilities will include: 

• Welcoming and supporting guests – Create a friendly, respectful atmosphere and build positive relationships with guests, volunteers, and colleagues. 

• Staying alert all night – Carry out regular checks around the shelter (every 20 minutes) to make sure guests are safe, and comfortable. 

• Responding to situations – Calmly manage any issues that arise, such as someone feeling unwell, experiencing emotional distress, or showing challenging behaviour. This may sometimes mean calling emergency services. Training will be provided. 

• Keep the shelter safe and secure – Follow all safety, security, and health and safety procedures. This includes locking and unlocking doors and making sure the space stays tidy and free from hazards. 

• Recording important information – Write clear, accurate shift reports and note any concerns or observations. Complete incident forms if needed. 

• Supporting volunteers – Offer direction and guidance to volunteers on shift so everyone works well together. 

• Enforcing behaviour expectations – Address situations where may display challenging behaviour, using a calm and respectful approach, conflict de-escalation training is provided for all staff. 

• Packing and unpacking the van – unload equipment and supplies into the van at the start of the shift and repack at the end of the night. The allocated driver will return the van to base (driver shifts are paid for an extra hour). 

• Restocking supplies – Keep an eye on essentials such as tea, coffee, and toilet paper, and restock from the van when needed. 

• Preparing a simple breakfast – In the morning, help serve drinks, toast, and porridge, and make sure guests are woken from 6am so they can leave by 7am. 

• Tidying and closing down – Gather equipment, pack it away, and ensure nothing is left behind. 

• Training and meetings – Attend occasional in-person training sessions, team meetings, or other activities. From time to time, you may be assigned online training to complete while on shift. 

• Work to a rota – Shifts will include evenings, weekends, and public holidays, so flexibility is important. 

• Help with other tasks as needed – From time to time, you may be asked to help with other reasonable tasks that keep the night shelter running smoothly. 

Person Specification 

Essential 

• A genuine commitment to providing a high standard of service and treating everyone with respect, kindness, and dignity. 

• Confidence in handling challenging behaviour calmly and respectfully. 

• Good communication skills, both spoken and written. 

• The ability to carry out manual handling tasks such as moving supplies and equipment. 

• For driver shifts: A valid driving licence for a manual vehicle and be willing to drive the Glass Door van. 

Desirable 

• Experience working with people experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable groups. 

• The ability to speak another language, for example Arabic, Tigrinya, Amharic, Polish, Spanish, French, or Russian. 

• A lived experience of homelessness. 

• An understanding of, and commitment to, trauma-informed care. 

• Relevant training such as first aid, fire safety, conflict de-escalation, or Mental Health First Aid.

The role requires experience in delivering group activities or events, managing risk, handling casework, and promoting the service externally. Strong organisational, IT, and written communication skills are essential, along with knowledge of local mental health services and recovery tools.

CONTEXT OF THIS ROLE:

At Purposeful, communications is political. It is how we amplify girls’ voices, sharpen feminist narratives, and push back against regressive agendas. The Communications Director will sit at the heart of this work - shaping and delivering a bold communications strategy aligned with Purposeful’s vision, mission, and growth.

This role leads the stewardship of Purposeful’s voice, visual identity, and storytelling practice, ensuring that everything we produce - whether op-eds, reports, campaigns, or digital content - carries our politics with clarity and conviction. The Communications Director will work closely with the Co-CEOs and across all Purposeful teams, including Advocacy, grant-making, Learning & Insights, Programmes, and Resource Mobilisation, to amplify girls’ organising, showcase our impact, and influence the broader philanthropic and activist ecosystem.

This is both a strategic and hands-on role, requiring a deep commitment to feminist movements, an instinct for storytelling as political practice, and a proven track record of positioning organisations on the global stage.

SCOPE OF WORK

1. Communications Strategy & Leadership

• Lead on delivery and implementation of a new communications strategy, building on 2025 planning foundations.

• Work closely with the Co-CEOs and director team to horizon scan and adapt strategy in response to organisational vision and external landscape.

• Provide leadership to a small team of staff and consultants (designers, digital specialists, artists) and work collaboratively with partner communications leads on joint campaigns and initiatives.

• Meticulously manage and forecast the communications and editorial budget, ensuring value for money and strong planning.

• Track and analyse content performance, using insights to refine reach and engagement.

2. Storytelling & Content Development

• Oversee the creation of compelling storytelling content that highlights Purposeful’s impact, amplifies girls’ and young feminists’ voices, and influences funders.

• Lead editorial planning and content workflows, balancing evergreen storytelling with crisis-response or time-sensitive outputs.

• Oversee production and capture of content from live and digital events (webinars, IG Lives, panels, etc.).

• Coordinate brand refresh projects, including a website refresh, and strengthen Purposeful’s digital visibility with a focus on graphic-led content across social platforms.

3. Writing & Editorial Oversight

• Review and edit all external content to ensure quality, editorial standard, and alignment with Purposeful’s voice and values.

• Write op-eds, blogs, social media posts, campaign messaging, press materials, and executive summaries.

• Collaborate with colleagues in Learning & Insights to integrate data into storytelling and publications.

• Edit and manage the production of publications and reports, commissioning artists and graphic designers as needed.

• Provide editorial oversight for media projects, including radio, film, and animation.

4. Media Engagement & Positioning

• Cultivate strong relationships with international, regional, and local media outlets.

• Proactively position Purposeful in global and regional conversations, ensuring girls’ and feminist movements’ voices are at the centre.

• Lead on preparing and supporting spokespersons, including Co-CEOs and external partners, for media engagement.

• Design and execute media strategies for key campaigns, events, and publications.

Westway Trust are seeking experienced and qualified part-time Adult Learning Tutors – Digital Skills to join their expanding tutor team to deliver accredited and non-accredited courses to adult learners in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (RBKC) area.

The primary responsibility of the Digital Skills Tutor will be to design and deliver high quality, learner-centred teaching, and learning and assessment experiences to our employed and unemployed adult learners from Entry level to Level 1, while supporting the Adult and Community Learning Manager to achieve the Trust’s strategic objectives.

A Hybrid Role

This role will work across both frontline delivery and input into the administration of the Duty system that underpins all HHPA’s work. It’s anticipated the worker’s role will be split roughly 50/50 across both elements of the work. Having a staff member working across both will give us a valuable insight into how frontline and Duty can work better together.  It is also a good opportunity for the worker to gain experience in all aspects of project delivery, which could be a valuable first step for anyone interested in project management or leadership.

The Duty work

The HHPA Duty Team makes sure the Homeless Health Peer Advocacy service runs safely and smoothly. They handle bookings from partner organisations, match referrals with Peer Advocates, and organise all the practical details – like booking transport, giving travel directions, and confirming who will attend each appointment. They use a specially designed Salesforce database to keep track of appointments, update records, and measure the impact of the service. A key part of their job is running the Duty System, which checks Peer Advocates in and out of jobs so that everyone is safe and supported.

The team is also the main point of contact for partners, frontline staff, and volunteers. They answer questions, make sure referrals have all the right information, and keep everything running to schedule. They look after data security, maintain good relationships with partner agencies, and make sure volunteers and workers have what they need to do their work well. By taking care of the behind-the-scenes work, the Duty Team frees up the frontline team to focus on supporting people to attend healthcare appointments and improve their health.

The pan-London Caseworker work

We need this role to support people experiencing homelessness in Boroughs where support needs are extremely high, but where we don't have the capacity or flexibility through our other funding to meet their needs. Most of our Caseworkers are funded by individual Boroughs and can only work in that area.  This role will be able to work in any of the Boroughs where we deliver HHPA so will give us the flexibility to go to where the need is greatest rather than being fixed in a single local authority area. As a more senior role in our HHPA service, the Caseworker will use their skills and experience to focus on people in the most complex and difficult situations, including those grappling multiple connected issues around physical and mental health, addiction, trauma, disabilities, and more.

Team: Night Shelters 

Location: On-site at Glass Door Night shelter venues in the boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham or Wandsworth 

Duration: 1 November 2025 to April 2026

Reporting to: Service Manager – Night Shelters 

Shifts available:  

• 7:00pm to 7:15am 

• 7:00pm to 8:15am (driver) 

• 9:45pm to 7:15am 

• 9:45pm to 8:15am (driver) 

Pay: £14.50 per hour, or £15.00 per hour when you are the designated driver for that shift. 

Job Purpose

As an Overnight Homeless Shelter Worker, you’ll be part of a small, professional team running Glass Door’s night shelters between November and April. Working alongside at least one other staff member, you’ll be awake and engaged throughout the night, supporting up to 35 guests who are experiencing homelessness. 

Your role is about creating a safe, calm, and welcoming space where guests can rest, feel respected, and be treated with dignity. You’ll build trust through friendly conversation, keep an eye on everyone’s wellbeing with regular checks, and step in when problems arise – from offering reassurance to someone in emotional distress, to calmly handling challenging behaviour, to calling emergency services if needed. 

Most nights are steady and focused on guest support, but there can be moments of pressure. We’ll provide training so you feel confident and prepared. You’ll also help serve a light breakfast in the morning and ensure our equipment is packed and ready for the next night – with one of you driving the van back to base. 

If you’re compassionate, calm under pressure, and committed to helping people move forward from homelessness, this role offers the chance to make a real and lasting difference. 

Job Responsibilities

What You’ll Do 

You’ll be part of the overnight team making sure our night shelters are safe, supportive, and welcoming spaces for everyone staying with us. This is an awake, overnight role, you will be alert and engaged for the whole shift. Your main responsibilities will include: 

• Welcoming and supporting guests – Create a friendly, respectful atmosphere and build positive relationships with guests, volunteers, and colleagues. 

• Staying alert all night – Carry out regular checks around the shelter (every 20 minutes) to make sure guests are safe, and comfortable. 

• Responding to situations – Calmly manage any issues that arise, such as someone feeling unwell, experiencing emotional distress, or showing challenging behaviour. This may sometimes mean calling emergency services. Training will be provided. 

• Keep the shelter safe and secure – Follow all safety, security, and health and safety procedures. This includes locking and unlocking doors and making sure the space stays tidy and free from hazards. 

• Recording important information – Write clear, accurate shift reports and note any concerns or observations. Complete incident forms if needed. 

• Supporting volunteers – Offer direction and guidance to volunteers on shift so everyone works well together. 

• Enforcing behaviour expectations – Address situations where may display challenging behaviour, using a calm and respectful approach, conflict de-escalation training is provided for all staff. 

• Packing and unpacking the van – unload equipment and supplies into the van at the start of the shift and repack at the end of the night. The allocated driver will return the van to base (driver shifts are paid for an extra hour). 

• Restocking supplies – Keep an eye on essentials such as tea, coffee, and toilet paper, and restock from the van when needed. 

• Preparing a simple breakfast – In the morning, help serve drinks, toast, and porridge, and make sure guests are woken from 6am so they can leave by 7am. 

• Tidying and closing down – Gather equipment, pack it away, and ensure nothing is left behind. 

• Training and meetings – Attend occasional in-person training sessions, team meetings, or other activities. From time to time, you may be assigned online training to complete while on shift. 

• Work to a rota – Shifts will include evenings, weekends, and public holidays, so flexibility is important. 

• Help with other tasks as needed – From time to time, you may be asked to help with other reasonable tasks that keep the night shelter running smoothly.

• A genuine commitment to providing a high standard of service and treating everyone with respect, kindness, and dignity.
