Overview
Established in 2019 and supporting a community of over 30,000 families ARFID Awareness UK is the only registered UK charity dedicated to raising awareness and further information about Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. As a not-for-profit, we work to provide individuals, parents, carers and medical professionals with up-to-date relevant information, research and support.
We are equally committed to supporting medical professionals across varying specialities, by equipping them with the information they need to ensure that their patients receive an early diagnosis and have access to appropriate care.
Our charitable aims are to:
1) Raising awareness about the condition within the medical and associated professions and the general public in such ways as the trustees shall determine;
2) Providing advice and information in such ways as the trustees shall determine to enable and empower parents and carers to advocate for the children in their care;
3) Facilitating research into the condition, the useful results of which will be published for the public benefit;
4) Potentially providing grants of financial assistance to enable economically disadvantaged families to obtain necessary treatment and medication unavailable via the NHS.
5) Advancing the education of the public in the subject of ARFID.
With regards to our structure, we are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). As a CIO, our Charity Trustees are protected with limited liability, and whilst they are responsible for helping to manage the organisation, they do not hold dual roles of Company Director as they might with other charity structures.
Time Commitment
Trustees meet twice a year virtually. Meetings last approximately 2 hours.
The Remuneration and Finance, Risk and Investment Committee meet once a year virtually. Meetings last approximately 1 hour.
In addition, Trustees are expected to allow time for reading of papers and preparation for meetings, attending events training and induction. As a small charity there may also be the requirement for additional input up to 10 hours per annum as required specific to your professional background and expertise
Purpose of the role:
Trustee (general)
The overall aim of the trustee role is to provide strong leadership, direction and expertise to the governance of ARFID Awareness UK.
The Board of trustees (‘the Board’) is the body with the legal duty to protect the mission and vision of the FSRH and to ensure that it is run in accordance with legal requirements.
The role of the Board is to provide good governance and leadership by:
· Shaping ARFID Awareness UK’s organisational strategy
· Approving organisational statutory policy
· Ensuring the organisation’s financial stability and sustainability, and agreeing the annual operational budget
· Appointing the Executive Director/s (who is overseen by the Chair of the Board on behalf of the Board)
· Providing support and constructive challenge to the Executive Director/s and their staff team
· Setting and monitoring procedures for assessing and managing risk
· Taking advice from Board members and external specialist advisors
· Ensuring oversight of the financial position of the charity and providing updates to the Board where appropriate.
As a charity and CIO Board members are charity trustees only. They do not represent any group or organisation in this role and they must act in good faith and in the best interests of ARFID Awareness UK.
Treasurer
· Chair the Remuneration and Finance, Risk and Investment Committee (FR&IC):
· To review progress of financial elements of the operational plan and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees.
· To review the strategic plan in context of financial and budgetary impact.
· To review the annual budget and make recommendations to the trustees.
· To receive and review proposals for new expenditure outside of the annual budget
· Advise the Remuneration Committee on the affordability of any changes to pay and or benefits.
· To receive reports at each meeting on financial performance and report as required to the Trustees
· To develop an Investment Policy and strategy
· To review the draft annual accounts along with the audit report, ensuring they are in accordance with relevant accounting standards and Charity Commission guidance
Person Specification
Essential:
· A financial accountancy qualification or equivalent experience (eg ACA, CIMA)
· Experience of investment, strategic planning and budgetary planning
· Ability to work effectively as a member of a diverse team whilst keeping in mind the responsibility of being an individual trustee
· Experience of guiding an organisation through growth and change
· Confident and effective communication skills including listening skills
· Understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
Desirable:
· Knowledge or experience of the charity sector
· Knowledge of the healthcare sector and/or ARFID
· Experience of board or committee membership in a charity, public sector or commercial organisation.

We are seeking to appoint up to three trustees to join the Institute’s Council of Management and are seeking individuals with backgrounds in HR, leadership within an SME professional services context, or economic research.
Our Trustees are responsible for overseeing the management of the Institute, including approving strategy, operational plans and budgets, monitoring organisational performance, managing the Institute’s principal risks and ensuring the fulfilment of the Institute’s charitable objectives. The time commitment for a trustee is the equivalent of between half a day and a day a month. The role is not remunerated.

The skills and experience that we are looking for are:
Experience
- An individual with senior HR expertise, preferably in a context where professional staff are the key asset of an organisation; OR
- Someone with leadership experience in a small-to-medium sized organisation, preferably within a professional services context and in an economics-related field; OR
- An internationally-renowned academic with research interests aligned to the work of the Institute.
Skills and abilities
- An understanding and appreciation of the work of NIESR and its importance to public policy.
- The ability to act with credibility and authority in the role as trustee, preferably with experience of working in a governance or board context.
- Fully able to commit to attendance of Council meetings and relevant sub-committee meetings.
- Objectivity, fairness, independence of mind, integrity, wisdom, discretion and good judgement.
- Strategic vision and the ability to focus on practical issues.
- Readiness to make and be accountable for decisions.
- A willingness to attend other NIESR events and engage with NIESR publications and output.

We are delighted to be working with Restore, an Oxfordshire-based charity that has been offering employment support to people with mental ill-health since 1977. Restore supports people - through recovery groups, coaching and learning - to take control of their own recovery, develop skills, and progress towards their own goals to live more fulfilling lives. It works within the community to increase knowledge, awareness and reduce stigma associated with mental ill health. Restore is also home to the Oxfordshire Recovery College for therapeutic peer learning and is an expert provider of formal mental health training.
Restore are now seeking to appoint a Chair of Trustees to provide leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees as their current Chair will step down later this year after ten years. The Chair will lead the Board of Trustees and work closely with the charity’s CEO and Executive Team to achieve its goals. They will have a strategic role ensuring that the organisation complies with its purpose, charity law and company law and that the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document.
The Chair will also ensure that the Board functions properly and that effective decisions are made and implemented. The Chair, alongside the CEO, acts as a spokesperson and advocate for the organisation.
The successful candidate is likely to have Board experience as a Chair or Deputy Chair although you may have been a Trustee for some years and now be looking for your next step. You will have excellent communication skills with great leadership qualities, the ability to confidently lead the Board, promote a collaborative team, deliver the vision of the charity and bring people together.

Restore has been a fairly diverse board over the years and are still looking for ways to improve. The Board recognises the need to be entirely representative of the community it serves in Oxfordshire and surrounding areas and is keen for the board to reflect it. Time Commitments:
You’ll need to be able to:
- Lead quarterly board meetings from 4:30pm to 7pm.
- Lead the Annual General Meeting (AGM) alongside the CEO once per year.
- Join the Finance Sub Committee and attend others as needed to contribute to discussion and decision-making.
- Make visits to our recovery groups and head office teams to ensure you stay close to the services we are providing
- Correspond by email to discuss items and make decisions between meetings
- Attend other activities/fundraising events.
Meetings are currently hybrid, where attendance can be in person or online. Restore are aware that people who are working full-time or have family/other responsibilities may not always be able to travel to the meetings in person. It is important that Trustees are able to visit services, attend at least some meetings in person and have a connection with the community to which we deliver services. With this in mind, it’s unlikely that you will be based outside of Oxfordshire and its surrounding counties.
Tenure:
Trustees can join at any time during the year but are formally appointed at the November AGM for a three-year term at a time which can be extended twice (plus an extra year by agreement).

RSPCA Barnsley & District Branch – Trustee (Treasurer)

The RSPCA has been protecting animals since 1824 and remains the UK’s oldest and largest animal welfare charity. Our Barnsley & District Branch works locally to:
- Rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals rescued from cruelty and neglect
- Provide subsidised neutering and emergency treatment for pets in need
- Support local food banks with donated pet food
- Run two successful charity shops to fund our work, supported by volunteers
The role of a Branch Trustee
Branch Trustees are volunteers who govern the charity, ensuring we are well-managed and making a real difference for animals. As Treasurer, you will play a key role in overseeing our finances, helping us operate effectively and sustainably.
Responsibilities include:
- Acting as the link between our accountant and the trustee board
- Attending monthly trustee meetings (usually online, 90 minutes on the 2nd Wednesday evening)
- Preparing and reviewing relevant financial documents for meetings
- Supporting decision-making with financial insight
Who we’re looking for
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, especially those with local knowledge. You don’t need prior trustee experience—training and induction are provided.
