Loved Before
A soft toy adoption agency, saving the planet one teddy at a time…
Each year in the UK alone, 8 million soft toys end up in landfill (and growing!). Along with them, the stories and memories shared with them are thrown away and left to rot. The difficult materials of these toys make them frankly impossible to recycle, and their composition means they take hundreds of years to break down and compose. Along with this, high carbon emissions come from the production of these toys which require immense fossil fuels, not to mention the carbon footprint of this high-demand global supply chain. As a culture, and quite literally from the moment we are born, we begin to grow our own collection of toys, with most children acquiring far more than they could ever love or play with within the first few years of their life. Charity shops are ill-equipped and overwhelmed, toy brand trends are fuelling over-consumption and the industry is calling for change.
This is why, when I discovered what was going on, I created Loved Before. We are a soft toy adoption agency looking to challenge perceptions of second hand, rebuild the consumer model and change the industry forever. When people are ready to part with their toys, they send them into us (we receive quite literally hundreds every single day). The toys visit our spa for a thorough clean, refresh and repair and are then beautifully packaged along with their bio (often written by their previous owners) before finding their next adventures across the world.
Fluffy Linkedin Lead
Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)
Do you believe in second chances? So do we – especially when it comes to soft toys! Loved Before is on a mission to rescue, restore, and rehome pre-loved stuffed animals, proving that second-hand doesn’t mean second best. We’ve built an incredible, engaged community across our platforms, and now we need someone special to help us bring that same magic to LinkedIn.
About the Role We’re looking for a volunteer LinkedIn Manager to help us grow our presence on LinkedIn – connecting with like-minded brands, sustainability advocates, and supporters who believe in what we do. You'll play a key role in spreading our mission, building relationships, and helping us reach new audiences.
What You'll Be Doing: Creating engaging LinkedIn posts that showcase our impact, partnerships, and behind-the-scenes stories. Growing our network by connecting with potential collaborators, eco-conscious brands, and corporate supporters. Spotting LinkedIn trends and leveraging them to boost engagement. Tracking growth & insights to refine our approach. Engaging with our community—responding to comments, messages, and opportunities for collaboration.
What We’re Looking For: ✔ Someone who understands LinkedIn and can help us stand out. ✔ A creative storyteller who can turn our impact into compelling content. ✔ A self-starter who loves connecting with people and building relationships. ✔ Passion for sustainability, second-hand love, or social impact (bonus points if you have a soft spot for soft toys!).
What You’ll Get: A chance to be part of something truly special – an award-winning social enterprise changing how people see second-hand. Flexible remote volunteering – work from wherever, whenever suits you. The opportunity to make a real impact in growing a brand with purpose.
If you're ready to help us turn LinkedIn into a hub of second-hand storytelling, we'd love to hear from you! Apply now and let’s save the world, one teddy at a time.

Chair
Unremunerated | Approx. 2 days per month | Hybrid meetings (alternating between remote and in-person)
Our client, a long-established charitable trust, exists to support women’s financial resilience and to tackle gendered poverty in the UK. Since 2016, the organisation has awarded over £26 million in grants, directly benefiting more than 150,000 women through individual funding, community-based partnerships, and long-term systemic change initiatives.
The charity is now seeking a new Chair of the Board to guide it through the next phase of its strategic development. This is a significant opportunity to provide leadership to a highly focused and well-governed organisation addressing one of the UK’s most pressing and persistent inequalities.
The incoming Chair will offer inclusive and effective leadership to the Board of Trustees, uphold strong governance practices, support the Chief Executive, and help shape the organisation’s strategic direction. The role will be central in maintaining momentum, reinforcing accountability, and ensuring the organisation continues to respond effectively to the needs of the communities it serves.
The charity is open to exploring alternative leadership models and welcomes interest from those considering a Chair and Deputy Chair arrangement or a Co-Chair model. The priority is securing a collaborative and inclusive approach to board leadership that aligns with the charity’s values.
The ideal candidate will bring:
-
A sound understanding of governance, financial oversight, funding models, and compliance within the charitable sector
-
Proven experience in chairing boards or senior-level committees, with the ability to facilitate inclusive, productive discussions and decision-making
-
Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to anticipate change, manage uncertainty, and influence long-term direction
-

-
The time and capacity to fully engage with the responsibilities of the role

Shout is the UK’s only free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging support service for anyone who is struggling to cope. When people text 'Shout' to 85258, they are connected to a Shout Volunteer for a text conversation. Our volunteers provide a safe space for people to share what's causing them distress, while showing warmth and compassion.
Tasks and Responsibilities
If your application is successful, you’ll be enrolled in a training group. New groups start every two weeks.
Shout Volunteers receive 25 hours of free training in communication, listening, managing and assessing risk, and problem solving. The training is self-paced and done online. You’ll learn how to bring people in distress to a place of calm and practice skills that will be useful to you throughout life.
As we are investing in you throughout your time with us, our hope is that you will complete the training in a timely manner and look at this as a longer term commitment. The experience you gain over time is valuable and our goal is to have volunteers commit to 200 hours on the platform, which can take up to two years to complete, as we ask you to take one 2-4 hour shift per week.
Our Volunteer Training Support team is here to support you, answer any questions and provide feedback during training and throughout your time with Shout. You’ll be joining an incredibly supportive volunteer community and have access to the resources you need to do your role.
As a volunteer, you’ll be supporting people in distress, so it’s important we see the skills required to do that while you are in training. While most trainees complete the training and go on to volunteer, not everyone will pass the training. If this happens, there are other ways you can still support us.
Selection Criteria
A Shout Volunteer is kind and compassionate, a good listener, and has the ability to remain calm when supporting people in crisis. You will also:
-
Understand the difference between being friendly and being a friend

You should leave up to an hour to complete the form. As Shout is a text based service and we do not conduct in person interviews for our volunteer candidates what you write in your application and the strength of your references are how we get to know you.
We appreciate when candidates take the time to write thoughtful, considered answers. We recommend you review your application with an eye toward things like spelling, grammar and punctuation. While some of our texters will occasionally reach out using more informal text speak, our volunteers respond in full sentences and double check their messages for accuracy before hitting send.
Your application will be reviewed once we have received responses from both of your references. We ask for a personal reference and a professional reference. The personal reference can be a friend or colleague but the other must be someone who knows you professionally or has supervised you in some way.
This could be a manager or supervisor from where you work or a teacher or educator from where you study. We recommend you choose references who are able to speak to your ability to fulfil the selection criteria outlined above.
We do not accept references from family members. This includes your partner or their relatives, your children, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents or godparents.
Please allow up to a month for us to review your application and return a decision.
If your application is approved, you can book your place on training. Training groups usually start every two weeks and spaces are available to book a couple of months ahead. While you are in training and before you are allowed on the platform we will carry out a background check.
