Overview
Healthwatch Newham wishes to employ a Deaf Outreach Worker. The role will work with the Deaf community on an action plan of delivery to make improvements across Newham. This is a fixed term contract of 12 months and you will work in partnership with the Newham health and social care system.
You will be a Deaf person with life experience of being Deaf and Deaf culture. You will be fluent in British Sign Language (BSL) and used to working in a bilingual environment with Deaf and hearing colleagues.

This role is based at our centre a short walk from Clapham Common tube station, in London. We support homeless people from the local area and further afield. Our services are open access, so the people who come to the Ace of Clubs are diverse and from multiple walks of life. Consequently their needs can be complex, so we are looking for a skilled communicator who can support people, many of who live chaotic lifestyles. Our purpose at the Ace of Clubs is to address people’s basic human needs by providing food, clothing, toiletries, and practical support. We help people link up with housing, healthcare, education, and employment. Our Support Workers work to help individuals overcome barriers to achieving wellbeing, whether it be through guidance in the support system, learning new skills or supporting service users to build the confidence and skills to enable them to navigate their life challenges and advocate for themselves. The Weekend Club is designed to promote independent time away from parents and carers and to help these young people to gain confidence and complete fun activities in a safe environment. In the near future we will be extending this to a Sunday, so we will be able to support more young people.
Location – Newbridge Centre, Cromer Street, off New Bridge Lane,Stockport SK1 which is a Together Trust service.
Hours – 6.5 hours each week on a Saturday – 9.45am to 4.15pm, with some Sunday working.
Salary - £5,076.38 annual salary (Based on a rate of pay of £12.01ph plus a 25% weekend supplement of £3.00ph over 6.5 hours).

The Role

Summary of Role
This is an exciting new role in our Talking Therapies team providing vital support to people in Manchester with common mental health problems. Working alongside counsellors, you will provide wrap-around social and practical support to adults on our waiting list for or who are engaging in Talking Therapy to enable them to address and overcome barriers impacting on their health and wellbeing. You will provide advice, information and guidance on these issues, make onward referrals to specialist advice organisations where necessary and support engagement with these services.

- Conduct one-to-one sessions to listen to, analyse and respond to the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of young people
- Manage, monitor and evaluate caseloads within your allocated school as part of the one-to-one support sessions
- Develop and run a variety of contact points and projects for young people across the school, including group sessions and drop-ins and after school projects
- Alongside the Secondary Schools Project Lead, supervise and build a team of volunteers to work within the school
- Build good working relationships with school staff, CAMHS and other relevant local services
General
- Contribute to, and be involved in fundraising and other activities that benefit Matrix, including whole staff workshop days, fundraising activities.
- During school holidays and after school, be involved in projects organised and run by Matrix, including holiday and after-school clubs (e.g. our Youth Café - The Youth Hideaway) within your allocated hours and as agreed by your line manager
- Raise the positive profile of Matrix by building professional relationships in a multi-agency environment including through networking events in the relevant local area, such as meeting with the community safety wardens, local schools, churches, Police and PCSOs
- Represent Matrix by providing a positive role-model to young people
- Promoting our activities in both the community and in a school environment through; social media engagement and assemblies

Level of Authority
As a Community Youth Worker, you will need to operate with a high degree of autonomy. You will be expected to administer your own time and workload in liaison with your line manager, keeping an ‘open’ diary for all activities. A working timetable for school holidays will be developed in consultation with your line manager.
Personal Specification
Essential
- A strong youth work background in a relevant field e.g.: youth work, teaching, social work
- Able to relate well to young people in all environments including (but not exclusively)school, 1:1, open youth clubs and partner projects
- Capable of building relationships with and liaising with other professionals
- Experience of leading workshops and / or groups sessions with young people
- Able to set appropriate boundaries with young people, in all situations
- Agree with and able to support and work within the Christian ethos of The Matrix Trust. (This job has a “genuine occupational requirement” (GOR) for the post to be filled by a Christian).
- Able to work effectively alone and as a part of a team (including with volunteers)

YMCA West Sussex Transitional Housing provides safe, secure accommodation for young people aged 18-25, who have been, or are at risk of homelessness. Our staff team comprises of Supported Housing Support Workers, Housing Mobile Night Workers and two Supported Housing Managers. We offer a support package alongside the accommodation to actively encourage residents into education, training, employment or voluntary work.
In delivering the role, you will work with the Deputy Supported Housing Manager and the wider housing team to provide effective day to day management of our transitional accommodation service. You will have your own caseload of residents, working creatively and effectively alongside young people to develop their assets and talents and to acquire the skills they need to live independent and fulfilling lives. You will contribute to the smooth and safe running of the service by providing consistency and reliability. You will have a calm, yet assertive manner, being able to handle potentially difficult situations. You will also support young people to safeguard themselves against abuse and risk. There will be times when lone working will be a requirement for this role.
This role is based on site in Horsham and will cover Transitional services across Horsham, Crawley, Burgess Hill and Worthing. Your working hours will be Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

The focus of the role is to support clients to achieve their employment goals, engaging with employers and training providers to secure vocational outcomes in line with client preferences.

Experience working with individuals affected by learning disabilities and autism would be beneficial. The successful candidate must be comfortable in approaching employers, persuading them to use our service, and working with them to recruit our clients to fill vacancies and sustain employment.
You will work closely with referring teams, providing a coordinated approach that always remains client led. You will also be in working to targets whilst maintaining a high-quality service.
