You’ll be passionate, as we are at Community Connexions, about helping people of all ages across Gloucestershire. The service you will provide means that thousands of people who might otherwise struggle due to physical, mental, social or rural barriers, get where they need to go.

You’ll be joining our group of trained Community Transport Volunteers (& qualified drivers) collecting people from their homes & taking them to a health appointment/social activity or picking them up from a health/day centre and dropping them home.

As a Community Connexions driver, you will be dedicated to providing safe transport that facilitates inclusion and participation, reducing loneliness from social and rural isolation. Your service will be vital for helping people retain their independence. As an example in 2020, our team helped over 90,000 passengers.

With your help we can be even better & reach still more people. Our services are reliable, punctual, safe and fully accessible. We’re inclusive & welcome people from all backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, religions, all walks of life, so come & join us as a volunteer!

Give as little or as much time as you can, some drivers are full-time, some offer a few half days a month. Volunteering with us a great way to help people in your community and it’s also an opportunity for you to meet new people and develop new skills.

We have opportunities in Tewkesbury, Cirencester, Tetbury, Stroud, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Dursley and across Gloucestershire.

We'll ask you to do a DVLA Licence check and we'll get you to complete the Disclosure and Barring Service certification.

We will not see you out of pocket, we'll cover your mileage expenses. We'll give you training and you’ll be part of our team. Our support staff are here to help you all the way.

Link Age Southwark is a vibrant local charity providing support to over 800 older people in Southwark who are feeling lonely or isolated. Our vision is for friendly local communities where older people and those living with a diagnosis of dementia can thrive in their later years.

All our volunteering opportunities are within the London Borough of Southwark, predominantly south of the borough - Camberwell, Peckham, Nunhead, Dulwich and around. 

One of the greatest challenges for many older people is access to suitable transport. As we age, our mobility decreases and sometimes we can lose confidence in our ability to leave the house independently. 

Our network of volunteer drivers provide a vital lifeline to many older people to help them get out and about and keep them connected with their local community.

We are able to provide transport to and from Link Age Southwark social groups. This role is all about providing an unhurried door-to-door service on either a regular or one-off basis. 

This role requires:

• owning a car with a full and clean driving license and suitable insurance cover (most insurance companies are charity friendly - we can help verify your car use if required)
• ensuring the vehicle you are driving is safe and legal
• sufficient fitness to drive - please inform us if there are any issues that may affect your driving ability
• patience and understanding towards the needs of older people, particularly those with mobility issues
• attendance at a volunteer induction and other relevant training opportunities
• completion of a full Disclosure Barring Service and character reference check
• a commitment to working within the policies of Link Age Southwark, in particular health and safety, confidentiality, safeguarding and equality & diversity

FareShare Greater Manchester is looking for safe, confident drivers to join our busy, friendly delivery team. 

We re-distribute tonnes of surplus food a month to charities and community initiatives across Greater Manchester. This is an achievement of which we’re proud, and want to expand and is why we need your driving and delivery skills to support our growing operation, especially in these current times of increased need.

Key responsibilities

Driving a van to deliver surplus food orders to the premises of the various Community Food Members we support. 
Loading and unloading the vehicle and carrying out a range of tasks, from basic vehicle checks to delivery administration.

As a Delivery Driver at FareShare, you will be driving a temperature-controlled 3.5 tonnes Mercedes Sprinter van; working closely with a Driver’s Assistant to re-distribute food orders to the premises of a wide variety of Community Food Members. You will be involved with loading the vehicle and carrying out a range of tasks, from basic vehicle checks to delivery administration.

The required skills and attributes are as follows. You must:

Be aged 25 or over, with a clean driver's licence (or a maximum of 3 points).
(Experience of driving a van is desirable though not essential).

Be reliable and be able to commit to pre-agreed volunteer shifts.

Be physically fit to take on moving and handling of food orders.

Possess the ability to follow procedures and instructions.

Have good verbal communication skills.

Have a high respect for Health & Safety standards and procedures.

Have an interest in the work of FareShare Greater Manchester and our values.

What will I be doing?

About Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity

Background

Founded in 2003 and originally named Andrea’s Gift and later Brain Tumour Research and Support

Across Yorkshire, Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity (YBTC) is Yorkshire and Humber’s leading

brain tumour charity. Offering practical, financial and emotional support to both adult and child

brain tumour patients, together with their families.

We fund brain tumour research in Yorkshire; we hope this research, dedicated to identifying new

approaches to the discovery and treatment of brain tumours, will improve outcomes for patients.

At YBTC we are a small team who are growing to meet the needs of those affected by a brain

tumour in Yorkshire. Around 15 new cases of primary brain tumour are diagnosed in the region

every week.

Role Summary

To transport patients to the Hospice at times specified by the Transport Co-ordinator, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey.  Using your own vehicle, you could collect a patient from their own home or their nursing or residential home, to their appropriate destinations which could be one of our Wellbeing group sessions, our Clinical Outpatients for an appointment or our In-Patient Unit 

Time Commitment

We are looking for a commitment of ideally one day a week for around 4 hours.   This could be either a morning or afternoon shift. The times needed can vary though and flexible availability would be very helpful.

What will I be doing?

• To transport St. Luke’s guests using drivers’ own vehicles, to and from the hospice, or occasionally – other specified journeys under guidance of the Transport team
• Read and understand guidance notes issued with attached Volunteer Driver’s pack
• The identified Transport team will liaise with drivers to arrange transport for patients attending Therapies and Wellbeing groups specifying collection and return trip times
• Liaise with the group leaders regarding all patient related matters
• Maintain up to date records in relation to mileage claims and submit those claims at the end of each month using patients’ initials only
• Attend meetings and training organised for all drivers
• Maintain confidentiality and data protection at all times
• Attending to patient needs and providing maximum attention to their mobility, health, safety and comfort
• Follow drivers’ guidelines, but adapt to unforeseen circumstances
• Liaise with Transport team to inform of general availability/holidays, to arrange weekly drives, to check on any changes
• Be aware of guests’ emotional, social and spiritual needs, being empathetic, observant and report to nursing staff, when appropriate
• Liaise with the Transport team and nursing staff on any concerns or information relevant to the guests’ care and well-being
• Ensure all practice, keeping of information and contact with guests and staff within the hospice code of confidentiality
• Keep an accurate record of mileage – being aware of hospice finances when using a route, which is of maximum comfort to guests, but also economical to the hospice

Experience/Qualifications/Skills

• You will need a full and clean driving licence (a code is required from DVLA for checks to be done)
• Proof of insurance and MOT is required annually
• You will be in good health and have a responsible, reliable and mature attitude
