Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

The Role

Our Lotus Community works alongside the City of Edinburgh Council to provide accommodation for 14 young people (aged 16-18), who are unaccompanied asylum-seekers. They come from a variety of different countries.

The community is a step towards independent living, whilst they await a decision about their ‘leave to remain’ in the country. The asylum procedure can be a long, complicated, overwhelming and challenging process. We support the young people in the best way during this stressful time (and after). They are supported by social workers and a guardianship service as well.

What will you do as a volunteer?

We are looking for highly motivated individuals who work well independently, are proactive and can get involved in community activities. You will support the residents of the community and help look after your shared spaces in the flats. Most of the residents have basic living skills, including cooking, cleaning and budgeting. We offer further support where needed.

We can also help them gain confidence and knowledge of the local area. This is to enable them to take further steps towards independence and integration in the local community. This is also with the purpose of them moving on to accommodation that better suits their needs in the future.

Depending on the season, and interests and abilities of the residents, your tasks can include:

• Being a peer mentor and staying in touch with the residents via WhatsApp
• Organise our monthly community meeting
• Organise activities, which can be walks, cycling, board games night, karaoke, tea and cake (whatever your interests) for the residents to come along.
• Reporting issues with the flat, repairs etc.
• Making sure that all rooms always have the equipment needed (cleaning products, toilet roll, hand sanitiser, condoms etc).
• Updating your (online) calendar for the week, so everyone knows when you are volunteering and not.
• Working together with your fellow volunteer(s) to organise activities and arrange rota.

What you get:

Location: You will live in a studio bedroom in the flat alongside the young residents. You will not pay for rent or bills (including internet).

Time: 20 hours per week for minimum 6 months. These are during the evening and weekends, with exception for a few hours spent in meetings and alike.

You can volunteer and work part time at the same time. You will organise your volunteering hours with the other volunteer.

We will provide support and training needed for you to engage with the tasks and young people in a safe manner. Support, supervision and team meetings are every month.

Helping in our shops is a great way to help CHAS and, as well as helping us raise money to fund our vital services, you'll be part of a really great team of volunteers. You'll be meeting new people, using your skills or learning something new, and making sure our customers get a great welcome and all the assistance they need.

It's always great to see our volunteers chatting to customers and telling them about CHAS - and there's so much more to this role too: you could be sorting donations, getting stock ready for the shop floor, wielding a steamer or a duster, processing Gift Aid, operating the till (we will show you how), merchandising and displaying stock - you'll never have a dull moment.

It would be ideal if you could volunteer one shift each week, which is about four hours (but we're also happy to chat about more flexible times). No special skills are needed as we’ll show you what to do and we provide all the training you’ll need. But if you have any experience or particular interest please tell us, it may come in useful. The Programme Lead oversees the strategic delivery of a multi-project programme focused on enhancing employability and skills development for target populations. I am short of time so need a helper or helpers to draft up bids for restoration and enhancement works to Grade I listed St Marys Church Sompting BN15 0AZ and II* listed St Marys church Binsted BN18 0LL (each having 2 charities PCC and Friends), also for Sustainable Sussex CIO's community farm projects at Sompting BN15 0EW.  It might be possible to pay a freelancer but in the first instance we are seeking appropriately experienced bidwriting volunteers who could enjoy helping us raise grants for any of these projects.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking new members to join our board and help us drive the company, ensuring that we work with determination and flair in everything we do.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from people who live in Hopkinstown or the local area, who are Welsh speakers and/ or who feel their lived experience is underrepresented in the arts or on charity boards.We are also interested in hearing from folks with experience in environmental sustainability, safeguarding, marketingor relationship building, staff management, data protection and/ or venue management. The most important thing, however, is that you are interested in the arts and have a desire and enthusiasm for helping our community and our young people to embrace creativity, citizenship and kindness.

A trustee is a person who takes care of the work of a charity, making sure it meets its charitable aims and carries out everything it does in a legal and professional way. Trustees have meetings every few months to check on, plan and discuss the work of the charity. Trustees do not get paid for being trustees, but they do get expenses for any travel etc.

Citrus’ board meetings are held around 4 times a year, usually on Zoom, and there are other Citrus creative events we love our board members to attend where possible. These can include screenings, gigs, performances, festival, workshops and much more. We aim to support our board with training and development needs as well as social opportunities. 

Currently, Citrus Arts has 4 trustees and we’re looking for 3 or 4 more. 

To apply, send us an application in any format you would like. You can send a CV if you have one with a covering letter, and audio file or a video. You can apply in English or Welsh. Currently, our board meetings happen in English with some Welsh, and we’re really keen to increase the amount of Welsh spoken. We’d also be happy to support BSL interpretation of meetings if required.

Am bwy rydym yn chwilio?

Rydym yn chwilio am aelodau newydd i ymuno â’n bwrdd a rhoi help llaw i ni yrru’r cwmni, gydag ymorol ein bod yn dal i fod yn gyfrifol ac yn gweithio’n benderfynol ac yn ddawnus ym mhopeth wnawn ni.

Mae gennym ddiddordeb yn arbennig mewn clywed gan bobl sy’n byw yn Nhrehopcyn neu’r cyffiniau, sy’n medru’r Gymraeg a/ neu sy’n teimlo bod profiad eu bywyd heb ei gynrychioli ddigon yn y celfyddydau neu ar fyrddau elusennau.Mae gennym ddiddordeb hefyd mewn clywed gan bobl a chanddyn nhw brofiad ym meysydd cynaliadwyedd yr amgylchedd, diogelu, marchnata neu feithrin perthynas, rheoli staff, diogelu data a/ neu reoli oedfannau. Fodd bynnag, y peth pwysicaf yw bod gennych ddiddordeb yn y celfyddydau ac awch a brwdfrydedd dros helpu ein cymuned a’n pobl ifanc i goleddu creadigedd, dinasyddiaeth a charedigrwydd.

Rhywun sy’n gofalu am waith elusen yw ymddiredolwr, yn ymorol ei bod yn cwrdd â’i hamcanionelusennol ac yn gwneud popeth a wna mewn modd cyfreithlon a phroffesiynol. Maeymddiredolwyr yn cwrdd bob ychydig fisoedd i fwrw golwg ar waith yr elusen, ei gynllunio a’i drafod. Chaiffymddiredolwyr mo’u talu am fod yn ymddiredolwyr, ond maent yn cael treuliau i ymorol am deithio etc.

Cynhelir cyfarfodydd o fwrdd Citrus tua phedair gwaith y flwyddyn, fel arfer ar Zoom, ac mae yna ddigwyddiadau creadigol eraill gan Citrus rydym wrth ein boddau o weld ein hymddiredolwyr yn mynd iddynt lle bo modd. Gallai’r rhain gynnwys gigs, perfformiadau, gŵyl, gweithdai a llawer at hynny. Mae’n amcan gennym gefnogi ein bwrdd o ran anghenion hyfforddiant a datblygu yn ogystal â chyfleoedd cymdeithasol.

Ar hyn o bryd mae gan Citrus Arts bedwar ymddiredolwr ac rydym yn chwilio am dri neu bedwar eto.

Byddem hefyd yn falch o gefnogi dehongli cyfarfodydd yn Iaith Arwyddion Prydain os oes gofyn.

Fundraising volunteer

Our vision for volunteering

Volunteering is and always will be at the heart of Cats Protection. It is joyful and inclusive. As a charity, working in partnership, together we transform the lives of cats, people and communities.

The difference you will make to cats and people

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you! 

You can expect us to

• Make you feel welcome, included and respected in line with our values and behaviours
• Support you in having a positive and impactful experience at Cats Protection
• Cover agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
• Provide you with access to learning, development and engagement opportunities

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!
