What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

We are partnering with the Social Interest Group (‘SIG’) to appoint new Trustees to join their board.  SIG brings charities together to work under one umbrella focusing on delivering good quality social and health care services.  They build powerful partnerships and creative solutions that bridge gaps in provision and aid recovery, reablement and resettlement, supporting thousands of people with good-quality support and care in residential services, drop-in centres, community floating support settings (including people's own homes), probation settings, and hospitals awaiting discharge
SIG’s Mission is to create solutions that bridge the gaps in local health and social care, getting people out of hospital, out of prison and off the streets.

By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens. Our Fundraising Events Team are at the heart of what we do, raising essential funds for the cats. 

Our Fundraising Events Organisers share ideas, tasks and inspiration, planning and delivering local events, with the support of the Fundraising events helpers, such as Open Days (usually 2 per year) at the centre and our annual Christmas Bazaar. 

Time Expectation:  This role can be varied and time commitment can be flexible. 

Without volunteers, Cats Protection Berkshire Cat Centre simply wouldn't exist. Our amazing, friendly volunteers are a diverse group with a shared love of cats who fit volunteering around their home lives and personal commitments.

We're often looking to welcome new volunteers to join our brilliant team. As well as meeting great people and making an incredible difference to the cats of Berkshire.

Please note:  Although we do welcome everyone, unfortunately our centre is not set up to accommodate young volunteers under the age of 18, including those on the Duke of Edinburgh programme.

The Adult Literacy Trust (ALT) wants to help adult learners break the cycle of poor literacy by offering them personalised reading support.

We offer one-to-one literacy support as a complement to formal teaching in education settings. We are dedicated to ensuring that adults who wish to improve their literacy skills - and to increase their life chances - receive the help they need to become confident readers.

Would you like to support an adult learner to become a confident reader? We are looking for volunteers to become trained Reading Coaches and work with adult learners on a one-to-one (or sometimes one-to-two) basis.

What it looks like in practice:

• Meeting a learner weekly, on-site at their college campus, typically before or after their formal classes for about an hour a week
• Building a constructive relationship with a learner
• Helping to check the learner’s understanding, build their confidence in reading, and provide support where needed
• Helping the learner practice skills they’re learning in the classroom and encourage confidence and resilience so that they persist with their studies

ALT is partnered with a range of colleges across London as we assign you to a location that works for you. All our locations are listed on our website.

The timings are flexible - ALT match you to a learner based on your respective availability. Typically, most ALT sessions take place sometime between 10am-6pm, Monday to Friday.

Personal Specification:

No prior teaching experience or qualification is needed. We provide full training so that volunteers are confident to start their sessions. However, volunteers must:

• Be at least 18
• Be able to speak and write English well enough to communicate clearly.
• Have a minimum education of a secondary school level or equivalent (i.e. hold a GCSE or equivalent, in any subject).
• Be willing to undergo a DBS check (provided by ALT)
• Have the right to volunteer in the UK

The Adult Literacy Trust provides adults with one-to-one support to improve their reading skills and confidence, as a complement to formal education provision, ensuring that individuals who wish to improve their literacy skills receive the help they need to become successful readers, and to increase their life chances.

Delivered through a network of specially trained volunteer Reading Coaches, our charity works closely with learning providers - such as Further Education Colleges and Institutes for Adult Learning - to assist people from some of the most disadvantaged communities who could benefit from enhanced support, strengthening learners’ outcomes from their participation in adult community education.

CPRE London’s events schedule​ (see website) is growing fast and, with more and more people attending, we now need someone to assist with the management. The role will be to help organise and manage all aspects of our online and occasional in-person events.

We are currently seeking individuals with event management skills and with a passion for environmental conservation to join our team. The role needs 3-4 hours of your time per week with the flexibility to be able to attend online events, especially the lunchtime webinars online, (usually 3rd Thursday of the month); occasional evening in-person meetings (possibly 2 or 3 times a year). Ideally our volunteers will be able to offer a commitment of 6 months or more.

An events volunteer will help CPRE with the work involving multiple events, including the "Urban Tree Festival" and "London Rivers Week". Successful candidates will get the opportunity to participate in a range of fun and interesting events across summer months.

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours commitment per week across Monday to Friday.

Join our amazing volunteer team in this flexible opportunity that puts you at the heart of our work supporting blind and partially sighted people. You’ll make taking part in events and carrying out volunteering easier and more enjoyable for our customers and volunteers with sight loss. You’ll take some of the stress and anxiety out of getting around and taking part in activities as a blind or partially sighted person. The help you give will encourage people to do more. What you’ll be doing • Sighted guiding / giving practical help to individuals in and around venues, so they can take part in events. • Supporting volunteers with sight loss with their volunteering activities which range from facilitating a regular community group to delivering a talk about sight loss to a local business. Your role would involve things like guiding; Meeting and greeting at group activities or creating a welcoming and interesting display stand at events. In this role you will only be helping individuals in places open to the public, often in a group setting. We will provide training in sighted guiding techniques and understanding sight loss. We have 250 local groups which play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS across the UK. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Group Coordinator for our East Berkshire group. As our local Group Coordinator you’ll take the lead in making sure your local group works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct and support other group volunteers to make sure your group’s activities meet the needs of your local MS community. In this role you’ll be able to develop your leadership, management, communication, organisation and motivation skills. 

Time Commitment

We estimate this role will need around 5 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

We are looking for passionate, candidates with a strong commitment to social justice to join TuWezeshe Akina Dada as Fellows. This transformative one-year feminist leadership programme empowers participants to become activists and social campaigners in the fight against all forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG). As a TuWezeshe Fellow, you will receive mentorship from inspiring female leaders, develop core leadership and advocacy skills, and gain access to funding to design and implement your own social action project. You will have the opportunity to influence policy, engage with national and international platforms, and connect with a vibrant network of African women leaders from across Africa and the UK Diaspora. This is a unique opportunity to amplify your voice and play a vital role in advancing gender equality and human rights.

The TuWezeshe programme is led by FORWARD in partnership with implementing partners across the UK, Africa and Europe, including Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) in Uganda, Sub-Sahara Advisory Panel (SSAP) in Wales and Scotland, Children’s Dignity Forum (CDF) in Tanzania, Think Young Women in The Gambia, and End FGM European Network in Europe.

Responsibilities
