The Climate Coalition is recruiting for two new trustees to join us. We are in a strong position as an organisation both internally and in terms of the critical role we are playing in our sector but there is always more to do and we are looking for people who can support and challenge us as we think about our next five years of progress. We have an experienced Board already and are open to recruiting people who have never served on trustee boards before (as well as those that have).
We are looking for people who have patience as well as drive and are drawn to the opportunities that come with coalition working. You will get to sit alongside some incredible people within the team and Board and bring your insight, thoughtfulness, support and challenge to help us do the best job we possibly can.
We acknowledge that people from certain backgrounds are under-represented in the climate sector and we’re committed to doing what we can to correct this. We are particularly keen to receive applications from candidates who identify as Black, Asian or minority ethnic. We do not require applicants to have previous trustee experience; instead we are looking for people who will devote the time and energy required to help us achieve our ambitious aims at a critical time for the climate sector.

WHO WE ARE
The Climate Coalition came together over 20 years ago and has grown to become the UK’s biggest group of people dedicated to action on climate change, with a combined supporter base of more than 22 million people. We encompass over 130 organisations spanning nature, environment, international development, faith, health, community and women’s groups – from the National Trust, WWF, the Women’s Institute, to Islamic Relief as well as local climate groups.
People are powerful when they come together: The Climate Coalition platforms and mobilises collective action for climate and nature; develops shared insights and narratives; and provides shared infrastructure to bring organisations together, to channel their collective action and create the space for sustained political change.
This is an exciting time for the Coalition as we adapt to meet the changing needs of the climate sector. Over the past few months we have refreshed our ideas about how we make a difference in the world (see our website for more details), and are reviewing our governance and how we make decisions.
WHAT WE NEED
We are looking to add a number of new trustees from either within or beyond our membership organisations. We are seeking trustees who will be bold and brave; who can contribute strategically across a wide variety of issues and who will support and challenge the Board and Executive Director in its drive for change.
We are able to provide access to support and training for first time trustees or those who feel they want to build their confidence/understanding in the role of the trustee.
Whether you work in the climate sector or in a different sector entirely, this is a chance to play a meaningful role in the UK movement. It is not just another governance role; it’s your chance to volunteer for an organisation with an outsized role in, and responsibility for, the climate movement as a whole.
We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience of community organising.
WHAT WE WOULD ASK OF YOU
As a trustee we would expect you to get to know us as an organisation and build a strong understanding of the aims of The Climate Coalition and work collectively with the Chair, the other Board trustees and the Executive Director to help ensure that the Coalition does all it can to fulfil its potential.
Specifically, as a trustee you will be responsible for ensuring it:

fulfils its strategic objectives as set out in our agreed strategic framework;

is well governed and abides by relevant laws and regulations (training is provided and you do not need to be a legal expert to do this role);

thinks carefully about how it recruits and how it spends money so that it has the necessary resources, both material and human, to operate effectively and deliver against our mission;

prioritises EDI in decision making.
Your commitment will be to:

attend our AGM as well as 6 x 2-3 hour trustee meetings per year, of which at least ⅔ will be via zoom, and to pre-read all relevant papers;

support our anti-oppression agenda and take part in or contribute to our trainings; as well as our main Board, over time all trustees will also have the chance to sit on and/or lead working groups particularly where you have specialised experience/skills, and attend other meetings where necessary;

to review our executive reports that detail how we are doing as and be aware of, and abide by the responsibilities of a charity trustee as set out by the Charity Commission.
Salary: The role is unremunerated though reasonable travel expenses will be paid.
Time commitment: Approximately 1-1.5 days/month
Location: Remote (anywhere within the UK). Occasional travel to London.

About the role
We are seeking an exceptional leader to join our committed Board of Trustees as we enter a pivotal phase of our strategy. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of an organisation that changes lives every day.
Our Chair will lead our Board to support our growth, impact, innovation and systemic reform ambitions, all in partnership with the disabled children, young people and families that we support. The Chair will collaborate closely with our Chief Executive and develop relationships with incoming and existing Trustees, balancing respectful and constructive dialogue that blends challenge and support.
As Chair, you will provide strategic oversight, ensuring all Trustees and the Chief Executive share a clear sense of purpose and that our strategic objectives align with Kids’ vision and mission. You will lead effective governance, ensuring Board meetings achieve clear
outcomes and focus on key strategic issues. Your leadership will drive continual Board development, facilitate collaboration between our executive leadership team and Trustees, and represent the organisation to stakeholders while developing positive relationships across our community.
Who we are looking for
We seek a Chair with a genuine interest, passion and fluency in our sector. It would be helpful if our Chair could bring lived experience of disability, directly or through association. You will bring significant Board-level experience with an understanding of key governance requirements for Trustees, ideally with experience in supporting organisational change and growth.
Your experience operating at a senior executive level in the charitable, public, or private sector will be complemented by your commitment to our vision, values, and purpose, ensuring these remain front of mind in decision-making. Time Commitment:
The regular commitments include Board meetings, which are held four times a year in London in person, with an annual strategy away day every year. Our sub-committees typically meet online up to four times per year. Additional meetings with the Chief Executive and senior team will be required as needed, along with representing us at external events and meetings.
The overall time investment amounts to the equivalent of two to three days per month. Preparation time for meetings and decision-making is essential, with occasional visits to our services across England and representation at external events as appropriate.

Prison in reach volunteers support members of the Armed Forces community who are in prison. They make a real difference by providing essential support during these incredibly difficult times.
Our volunteers work closely with veterans in custody support officers, attending veteran forums, and offering one to one support, including making applications for financial assistance. We also connect clients with organisations, to help support pathways for positive change.

- Establish an agreement around the rate of visits with the VCJS team and the prison.
- Record the support offered to veterans accordingly and appropriately.
- Complete monitoring reports.
The skills you need
- Be over 21.
- Have a good level of fitness to able to move around a prison quickly - including stairs.
- Excellent listening skills.
- Awareness of boundaries and confidentiality.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of people, including prison staff, other agencies, SSAFA colleagues and clients.
- Positive, committed and non-judgemental. Non-judgemental and empathetic attitude.
- Good IT skills.
- An enhanced DBS check is required for this role. Individual prisons will determine if they authorise individuals to be based in their facilities based on security considerations. Security Vetting by His Majesty’s Prison Service is often required. For further discussion, please get in touch.

We are delighted to have secured funding to deliver a 24-month befriending programme. This exciting opportunity will support the delivery of our ambitious five-year strategy by:

Promoting Independence - ensuring more older people can stay independent for longer

Providing Connection - enabling friendship and social connection for olderPeople
The befriending service will be provided through 2 different strands which aim to support older people in different ways based on the needs identified via an assessment.
Clients will enter the strand that is most appropriate to their needs.

Strand A: We will offer a local face-to-face service of up to 1 hour for 26 weeks. Strand A provision would be appropriate for older people who have experienced a recent life event, such as a hospital admission, bereavement or home move and who need time limited support and guidance to connect with suitable services and activities.

Strands B: We will offer ongoing support either face-to- face of up to 1hour or by telephone between 30 minutes and 1 hour. Strand B provision is for older people leaving Strand A that require long term support or for those who are identified as needing ongoing face-to-face or local telephone befriending support on entry to theprogramme.
Purpose of Role
-
Arrange and carry out assessment for new service users within the befriending service using the Guided Conversation approach, in order to gather appropriate information about the older person, their needs, and what a befriender will be expected (and not expected) to do.

Ensure that the person wants a befriender, has given consent, confidentiality has been discussed, and the person is able and willing to join the service.
-
Ensure that volunteers and service users are well-matched and that the service runs safely, effectively, and in line with organisational standards.
Key Tasks
-
Carry out a needs assessment for new service users referred to the befriending service. It could be a telephone-based discussion or review of a referral form or a home visit.

Gather key information such as visit preferences, activity interests, potential risks, and any unmet needs.

Complete assessment forms and input information into the online database
-
Refer service users to other services where appropriate
-
Match service users with suitable volunteer befrienders
-
Introduce befriender and service user, and carry out a 6-week review with both parties

Maintain accurate records and liaise with staff throughout the process

What will you be doing?
EcoCounts is a group of volunteers working together to embody EcoCore’s approach to the climate crisis. EcoCore covers a lot of ground because the climate and biodiversity crisis is so all-encompassing, which means we have a lot of varied and different volunteer tasks available, ranging from carbon footprint data collection, setting up sub-teams of friends or colleagues or doing social media or running workshops.
Your responsibilities would be to create volunteer tasks from our work streams, which would include things like:

creating a role description for each volunteer task to give a good outline of everything required and expected

keeping track of what volunteers are active on

encouraging and inspiring volunteers to deliver on commitments

creating an incentives or rewards framework for volunteers, potentially working with supporting businesses to agree on gift vouchers, tokens etc

Being a volunteer-based organisation at this stage still, that might make the volunteer chief of staff the most important person we have. Of course we all consider each other equal. Being small and dynamic means EcoCounts can offer the flexibility for you to do an excellent and fulfilling job.

CAT FOSTERER
Cat Fosterer (Guildford & Epsom)
We’re looking for cat-loving volunteers to play a vital role in helping us improve the wellbeing of the cats in our care whilst they wait to be rehomed. Can you help them by providing a calm and caring home whilst we find their purrfect forever home?
Overview of the opportunity
As a cat fosterer, you would be supporting the RSPCA in providing our cats with the safety of your home whilst tending to their welfare needs such as feeding and grooming. In addition to this, by providing a temporary loving environment, you will play a crucial role in a cat’s wellbeing and socialisation, which will significantly improve their chances of successful rehoming.
Once everything is in place, the Guildford & Epsom Branch will guide you through the fostering process and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment, food, and veterinary care for your fostered cat. The RSPCA is also happy to reimburse any other pre-agreed expenses that you may incur through volunteering for us.
Whilst our cats are in your foster care, you will:
- Provide them with care, suitable housing, and a safe environment as per our policies and guidelines.
- Feed, water, and groom them in line with our advice.
- Transport them to any veterinary appointments if required.
- Provide them with your time and patience.
- Help us spread the word about the cats in your care so they might find their forever home quicker.
- Playing and cuddles are also a must!
What we are looking for in a volunteer Cat Fosterer
- Volunteers aged 18 or over who have had plenty of experience caring for cats.
- Fostering experience is beneficial but not essential as training is provided.
- For their wellbeing, our cats need to be kept in a separate room, so the whole family should be on board.
- Any existing pets or animals need to have been spayed/neutered (some medical reasons may mean they cannot be so, please let us know if this is the case).

Family Lives was formed over forty years ago by volunteers with the aim of ensuring that all parents had somewhere to turn before they reach crisis point.
We know that the right support at the right time makes all the difference.
Family Lives provides targeted early intervention and crisis support to families who are struggling.
Purpose of the role:
To be part of a flexible team providing empathic, caring and informed support to families, carers and others who use our services.
Our volunteers take calls from parents and carers on a wide range of subjects, whether that might be issues around separation and divorce, isolation, depression, bullying and abuse, dealing with behavioural problems, etc. You can find out more about our services on our website. We are a national service with home-based call takers county wide and a call centre in Old Hatfield Hertfordshire.
Once trained volunteers sign up for a weekly 4-hour shift comprising 3 hours ‘online’ followed by a debrief session with your supervisor which can last around half to one hour.
We recruit volunteers with a range of backgrounds and experiences though we ask that volunteers have experience of parenting or working with children and young people, are good listeners and have a willingness to learn. Being remote it will be very important that you have a PC/laptop, plug in headset with microphone, good Wi-Fi and a private place to work from home. You need to be a UK resident.

We have remote call taker training sessions that run over five sessions and is done remotely connecting you via a Microsoft Teams link. Our next training is starting in September 2025.

Ready to make a difference to a young person's life? Team Up is seeking dynamic volunteers to help transform the lives of disadvantaged pupils by building confidence, resilience and doubling their expected progress in English or maths.
We are looking for inspirational role models who will tutor Maths or English on one of our school programmes across London. You will be matched with a small number of pupils and provide them with the academic support, encouragement and inspiration they need to get back on track. All our volunteer tutors receive full training, lesson resources and support from a qualified teacher/facilitator throughout their placement.
Practical Considerations:
- You can choose a programme that suits your timetable and location.
- Sessions are between 60-90 minutes and will take place on a fixed day of the week, normally at the end of the school day (between 3-5pm).
- Each programme runs across a 12 week period, usually during term time. You will be expected to volunteer for at least one programme (10-12 weeks).
- Team Up provides full lesson plans and teaching resources.

We’re currently looking for a Drama Volunteer to support our weekly drama group on Friday afternoons, held at St Faith’s Centre, Red Post Hill, SE24 9JQ (close to North Dulwich and Herne Hill stations).
About the Role
This role is ideal for someone with a background or strong interest in drama, theatre or performance. You’ll support our Drama Tutor to deliver inclusive and engaging drama sessions for a small group of adults with learning disabilities. Each year, the group works towards a production which is performed at our end-of-year Summer Show, making this a fun, creative, and rewarding volunteering opportunity.
