The overall role of a Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation’s financial affairs, ensuring its financial viability and that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.
In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, duties of the Treasurer include:
- Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements (including arranging for the accounts to be submitted to the accountant).
- Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs.
- Ensuring that Mind in Kingston has appropriate reserves in line with its reserves policy.

- Ensuring that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of Mind in Kingston.
- Monitoring the organisation’s investment activity and ensuring it is consistent with the organisation’s policies and legal responsibilities.
- Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies, for example the Charity Commission and/or the Registrar of Companies.
- If external scrutiny of accounts is required, ensuring that the accounts are scrutinised in the manner required (independent examination or audit) and any recommendations are implemented.
- Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.
- Supporting other trustees in understanding the organisation’s financial position and decision making.
- Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation and the ethical fundraising policy.
- Making a formal presentation of the accounts at the Annual General Meeting and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way.

- Relevant financial management/accounting qualifications and/or experience.

About the Role

- ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources, maintaining proper financial and regulatory oversight and best practice as a charity

Founded in 1983, IPSEA is a leading national charity focussed on supporting families to ensure that children and young people with SEND receive the education they are legally entitled to. Since our formation, we have actively helped to improve the education experience of thousands of children and young people with SEND. We do this by providing free and independent legal advice and casework support, undertaking policy work and delivering training on the SEND legal framework.
Who are we looking for?
We wish to recruit a number of new trustees who are committed to our vision and values and who bring complementary skills to those of our current Board members.
Trustees are expected to gain an understanding of the organisation’s purpose, and to contribute their own expertise, ensuring IPSEA fulfils its objectives, and in accordance with our charitable objects and Articles of Association

A Trustee will bring an individual area of expertise to benefit our organisation. Among the many skills they may have relate to business development, financial management; charity governance, staff development, performance management, local government, disability service development and adult social care. The Trustees work closely with the Executive Management Team (EMT) on the strategic direction of the business. Bethphage is a values-based charitable business, supporting some of the most vulnerable people in the community. The charity also needs to make a modest financial surplus to remain viable. Some of our board members have been a part of Bethphage for many years, you will be joining a supportive, friendly, and collegiate team that will help you develop and grow your role as a Trustee. The Trans Learning Partnership (TLP) is in the process of evolving into a new, independent charity: the Trans Research Partnership (TRP). This transition will be completed by the end of 2025.
As part of this transition, we’re recruiting up to five founding trustees to help shape the future of TRP. We have already received a number of good applications, and are now turning our focus specifically to recruiting those with charity leadership and governance experience.
TRP will be a trans-led research charity that centres trans voices and produces rigorous, community-led research to inform policy, practice, and public understanding. Our values include trans leadership, intersectional justice, ethical rigour, collaboration, safety, autonomy, imagination, and hope. Our board will be majority trans, but we welcome applications from qualified cis people.
