Role description 

Our volunteers are vital in helping us make life fully inclusive for the 12 million people in the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.  RNID hugely value the contribution of our volunteers and we achieved the Investing in Volunteers quality mark in 2023. 

What you’ll be doing 

Community volunteers help us share information. They act as ambassadors for RNID, providing information to deaf people and people with hearing loss and tinnitus and providing information on RNID services and activities. They do this by: 

• attending events, such as community open days, health information days 

• giving presentations to groups (these might be in-person or held remotely on-line 

You don’t have to do all types of activities; you can pick the activities you find most interesting and match your skills and experience. Community volunteers help us on an ad hoc, flexible basis, there is no fixed time commitment. 

Full induction and training is provided and you’ll be assigned a supervisor to provide you with on-going support and to introduce you to our community of volunteers.

Requirements 

You need to be 16 or over for this role. You may need to be able to travel by car or public transport to different places. We’ll reimburse your expenses in line with RNID’s expenses policy.

Would you like to play a key role in supporting blind and partially sighted people in your local area? Are you great at communicating, love meeting others and enjoy using your admin and organisational skills? If this sounds like you, you’re the person we’re looking for to support our Solihull Social group meeting. The Solihull Social is a meet up for working age visually impaired people in Solihull and the surrounding area. The aim of the group is to bring together local, like minded visually impaired people who can relate to each other’s local issues around being visually impaired in Solihull, but mainly to have a good time getting to know each other. The group meet once a month in a relaxed informal setting for a drink or bite to eat. We would like your help with: • planning and organising group meetings; • liaising with the venue; • sighted guiding; • helping to ensure that participants feel comfortable and facilitate discussion; • looking after participants welfare within the group and flagging any welfare or safeguarding concerns.

• This role requires an enhanced criminal record check and 2 references.
• The group meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month, 6pm – 7.30pm at the Beech House, 727 Warwick Rd, Solihull, B91 3DA

With over 14,000 people in the North East living with some form of sight loss, our amazing Community Volunteers play a key role in connecting blind and partially sighted people to each other, their community, and to wider internal and external services. RNIB attends events aimed at providing information and awareness. We need volunteers to help us continue this valuable work. Volunteers are needed to attend events with staff members, help set up equipment, give out leaflets and basic info to the public. Sighted volunteers may also be asked to guide visually impaired volunteers occasionally.

We are recruiting volunteers who enjoy volunteering in their community to help raise the charity’s profile at a local level. Everyone has their own community and we would love to work with people who can share their passion, interest and enthusiasm for Yes to Life with people in their communities who could benefit from our work. The role descritption provides a list of ways you can do this but we are very happy to listen to your suggestions and ideas too. The role is flexible and you can choose how many hours you dedicate to the role.

About East Sussex Hearing

East Sussex Hearing, an independent countywide charity based in Eastbourne, has dedicated over two decades to serving the deaf and hard of hearing community across East Sussex. Our mission is to empower individuals with advice and practical support, enabling them to lead vibrant, active lives and be integral members of their community.

We are now on the lookout for a passionate Community Fundraising Volunteer to join our cause on a voluntary basis.

About the role
As a Community Fundraising Volunteer, your role is diverse and impactful. Becoming a Community Fundraising Volunteer is a wonderful way to have fun and meet new people whilst supporting the charity in raising vital funds and awareness of the charity within your local community.

What you will be doing
• Attend and set up local community events around East Sussex. Unloading and Re-loading of stalls with marketing literature, including event flyers
• Represent East Sussex Hearing at local community fetes, fairs and events
• Help with bucket collections
• Act as a Charity Ambassador by promoting our Charity’s services and events among your friends, family, and colleagues
• Help to source and collect prizes from individuals, local community organisations, contacts and manage the use of materials at stalls
• Provide general hearing loss information and advice, including signposting to other services

We’re looking for multiple Community Connectors over the age of 18 years old, based across various locations across Carmarthenshire. 

You’ll be volunteering : Dates and times to be agreed with volunteer.

The volunteers could be:

· Providing a valuable support to our teams based within the region.

· Build relationships with people, and organisations to raise awareness of stroke and the Stroke Association.

· Engaging with your local community to represent the Stroke Association, this could include the delivery of presentations or talks either face to face or digitally.

· Sharing your knowledge and experience of stroke to others.

· Researching and gathering information relating to life after stroke services.

· Supporting the process of volunteer recruitment and training.

· Attending fundraising events, including donation collections.

*Whilst we would be delighted if you could perform all of these tasks, we will be happy to accept enquiries from you if you can provide suitable selective support.

The Head of Community Engagement is an exciting role focusing on fostering meaningful connections, collaboration, and support within the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. This position leads efforts to engage community members, organisations, and stakeholders, ensuring that Pride Cymru initiatives are inclusive, impactful, and reflective of community needs and aspirations.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Develop and implement strategies for engaging with diverse LGBTQ+ communities, organisations, groups, and individuals across Wales.

• Build and nurture relationships with community leaders, activists, advocates, and stakeholders to foster collaboration and partnership opportunities.

• Seek opportunities for collaboration and partnership to maximise impact and reach.

• Oversee and cultivate partnerships with organisations responsible for managing spaces during Pride Cymru events.

Skills and experience

• Proven experience in community engagement, activism, or advocacy, preferably within the LGBTQ+ community or related social justice movements.

• Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to inspire and mobilise diverse communities and stakeholders.

• Knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues, and intersectionality.

• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a passion for promoting social change and empowerment within marginalised communities.

What is a Community Connection Champion?

The aim of the role is to promote connection by developing and facilitating social groups and activities within the local serving community.

Tasks will include planning group activities that are sociable and of interest to the community. It also involves coordinating and delivering sessions. You will receive training and have support from a dedicated project officer as you establish a variety of groups.

What difference will you make?

Armed Forces life can bring its challenges when a loved-one is deployed overseas, or a family must move to a new location. Some people can find themselves feeling lonely or socially isolated, they may struggle to meet and connect with new people due to their confidence, work commitments or because they don’t live in Service Family Accommodation.

Community Connection Champions will play a vital role in tackling these challenges by creating welcoming, engaging group opportunities that bring people together.

What will you be doing?

Although every SSAFA Team has different needs, below are the main activities of a Community Connection Champion:

• Creating and Planning: Working with the Project Officer to plan, develop and organise groups and activities that are best suited to their local serving community.
• Communication and Teamwork: Keeping in touch with the local Community Volunteer Coordinator and attending s meetings.
• Networking and Engagement: Reaching out with those who are interested in attending activities, providing support and encouragement for them to attend, including those who face barriers to attending.
• Facilitating group sessions: Delivering group activities in line with agreed plans, signposting attendees to external support as required and in line with SSAFA’s safeguarding policy and procedures.
• Recording and reporting on activities: Sharing activity plans with the SSAFA Project Team, tracking attendance, and encouraging attendees to complete the relevant paperwork to support Project reporting and development.

What about training and support?

• Volunteers will need to complete E-learning courses covering topics including GDPR and safeguarding plus a 1.5hr webinar which focuses on understanding the impact of loneliness and social isolation, what helps to reduce those feelings and the skills needed to develop and facilitate groups.
• Support from a dedicated Project Officer who will work with you to plan and develop the groups and activities.
• Support from your local Community Volunteer Coordinator and SSAFA’s Regional and Central Volunteer Operations colleagues.
• Access to a range of e-learning courses, resources and local opportunities to keep your knowledge and skills up to date.
• Regular meetings and events to learn and share information.
• Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses.
• Volunteers will be covered by SSAFA's Public Liability insurance while carrying out their role.

This role would suit someone who would like to make a regular weekly commitment of a couple of hours.

As this is a new initiative, we are keen to understand what works to support the local serving community. We expect groups to run in the evenings and weekends, as well as during the week.

A typical group might run once weekly for a 6-week period. Face to face sessions are likely to run in community venues such as community centres but we also want to explore how virtual groups can be used to support those who can’t access face to face sessions.

Please note this is a volunteer role and does not form part of any contract of employment. 

Community Initiatives & Events Volunteer

We’re looking for proactive volunteers who can get stuck into helping the Fundraising Team with developing fundraising activities. 

Location: Dependent on campaign/initiative; mainly around Kent
Days: Ad-hoc to be agreed with Line Manager; events could include Christmas Lights Campaign, Christmas Tree Recycling Campaign, Hospitality Heroes
Time: Ad-hoc to be agreed with Line Manager and dependent on campaign/iniative

Role

As a Pot Collector and Leaflet Distribution Volunteer, you will play a vital role in maintaining ellenor's donation collection pots in the local area. 

Key tasks may include:

• Introducing appropriate venues for different campaigns to Fundraising Team
• Identifying venues to Fundraising Team
• Flyer distribution to your local community (see Donation Pot and Leaflet Distribution Volunteer for full information)
• Christmas tree labelling at partner tree seller venues
• Identify collection pot locations (see Donation Pot and Leaflet Distribution Volunteer for full information)

About Pain Concern

 Pain Concern is a charity providing information and support to people with pain and those who care for them, whether family, friends or healthcare professionals. Visit our website to find out more about what we do, including our Airing Pain radio programme, Pain Matters magazine, information helpline, community pain education sessions and our research and campaigning work. All pain is unpleasant, but for the 7.8 million people in the UK living with long-term pain it is a part of everyday life. It diminishes quality of life more than any other condition, leading often to loss of work, depression and disability. Anyone at any age can develop persistent pain and you will very probably know somebody affected. Although there is usually no cure, people who receive the appropriate treatment, information and support can manage their condition effectively with life-changing results 

Purpose of Volunteer Role

This role supports our aim in delivering pain education in our communities and providing access to high quality resources to those who may not have digital access. As an ambassador you will provide tailored information on pain management services available in the local health board area and Signpost to any other support services in the community. Promote the concept of supported self-management as a recommended, effective intervention for chronic pain. Help make a difference to people living with pain by providing a powerful platform to hear the views and experiences for the all too often, voiceless patients. Due to the nature of the role, successful applicants will be required to undertake a PVG check.

What would you be doing 

• Have personal experience of chronic pain (e.g., a diagnosis or experience of supporting a family member or friend).

• Representing Pain Concern in a professional manner

• Build a network with local GP surgeries, NHS health board.

• Attend Pain Management groups (virtually or in person), to highlight long term support options.

• Making conversation with members of the public as appropriate, and answering questions about the charity’s work.

• Signpost to helpline, Pain Concern information leaflets, Airing Pain etc

• Carry out research into community groups, local events and businesses in your area, so that you can contact them to attend fayres, exhibitions etc

• Attend cheque presentations and local events officially thanking donors and hosts for their support

• Adhere to Pain Concern’s policies and procedures at all times, including Safeguarding; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; Health & Safety; Data Protection; Confidentiality;

• Attend training and volunteer meetings

• Keep your Volunteer Manager up to date on your activities, including the contacts you’ve made and talks that you’ve arranged.
