RANGER CADETS

Trailblazers’ mission is to reduce re-offending and inspire new futures. Your support will help a young man to reconnect with his community, friends and loved ones, go into education, training and employment, and give a person a sense of hope for the future.

Trailblazers has been providing mentoring services to people in prison since 1998 with ultimate aim to reduce re-offending. We provide support to men between the age of 18 - 35 in custody who have 6 months left of their prison sentence, and then 'through the gate' into their own community for up to 12 months. The Education, Training & Employment (ETE) team supports our mentees in custody to break down barriers to employability. Post-release, this continues by supporting mentees to gain meaningful and career changing roles in sector specific industries such as Construction, Engineering, Catering & Hospitality or the Self-Employment route. 

The ETE team are looking to build a team of volunteers to work with mentees in the community and to shape the existing ETE service in the Thames Valley area. We are looking for volunteer mentors who can commit for up to 12 months and give a few hours a week to support men to change their life by being inspirational role models, helping with goal setting and supporting their mentee to access ETE opportunities and ultimately gain meaningful employment. Mentoring sessions will be 1:1, take place weekly and can be done remotely by telephone or online. These sessions will last approximately one hour, but some time should also be given to liaising with Trailblazers staff and researching relevant opportunities. 

Induction training is provided, out of pocket expenses covered, a mobile phone is provided to protect your identity, a Trailblazers T-shirt and lanyard are provided, DBS costs are covered, as well as regular reflective practice sessions to support you within your role. 

We are actively looking for people to join our mentoring community with lived experience of the criminal justice system, under represented groups from BAME community, creative arts, business skills, wellbeing - whatever your skills and background we are open to hear from you to support our diverse group of men.

What is a Publicity Coordinator?

Publicity Coordinators work with other branch volunteers to develop a Publicity Plan to raise awareness of SSAFA that reaches potential beneficiaries, volunteers, and funders.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our beneficiaries come from all walks of life and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan. We’d love the general public to understand what we do and how they can help us. We need to recruit volunteers that reflect our local communities and raise money to fund our work. Could you spare a few hours a week to help us raise awareness?

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

This role is about building awareness so beneficiaries know who we are and how they can benefit from and access support, promoting volunteer opportunities and encourage people to raise finds and celebrate success. This means that on occasions, you might need to be present at events. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but you can conduct the administration part of this role form home.

What would you be doing?

• Working with other branch volunteers to develop a publicity plan.
• Publicising SSAFA events.
• Work with Marketing/PR staff at central office to develop case studies of clients and volunteers and ensure that SSAFA branding and messaging are consistent.
• Develop and maintain networks with local press, TV and radio outlets through providing press releases, interviews, case studies etc.
• Working with the Digital Team at Central Office to develop and maintain a local on-line presence for the branch via a website and social media channels.
• Keeping a stock of SSAFA publicity materials and distributing them
• Liaising with PR staff at central office or on-call in the event of a PR/press situation.
• Supporting local and national campaigns to recruit new volunteers.
• Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA including all sections of the community in awareness raising
• Adhering to SSAFAs policies and procedures at all times, including safeguarding, volunteering policy, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality.

The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

We’re looking for someone with energy, ideas and a passion for supporting our community. As part of our Board, you’ll help guide the strategic direction of Grantham Foodbank and ensure we remain strong, sustainable and ready to support local people in crisis.

In this lead role, you’ll use your fundraising or grant-writing experience to help us secure vital income, build partnerships and unlock new opportunities for growth. You don’t need to be a fundraising expert — just confident working with bids, building relationships and making a positive difference.

DETAILS:

Role: Trustee – Fundraising & Grants Lead
Organisation: Grantham Foodbank (part of The Trussell Trust network)
Location: Grantham / in-person meetings; project work can be done from home
Time Commitment: Approximately 6–8 hours per month, plus initial training
Term: Three-year term, renewable in line with the constitution

About the Role

Join us as a Trustee – Fundraising & Grants Lead and help shape the future of Grantham Foodbank.
You will share responsibility for the charity’s governance and strategic direction while taking the lead on fundraising and grant development to secure the funds we need to sustain and grow our impact in the local community.

Key Responsibilities:

· Lead or support the Foodbank’s fundraising strategy, grants, and donor engagement

· Identify and pursue new income opportunities and local partnerships

· Keep the Board informed about fundraising performance, risks, and opportunities

· Act as an ambassador for Grantham Foodbank within the local community

About You:

· Experience or interest in fundraising, grants, or partnership building

· Strategic thinker with strong communication and relationship-building skills

· Commitment to Grantham Foodbank and Trussell Trust values

· Willingness to commit ~6–8 hours/month, attend Board meetings, and engage with board activities outside of meetings

Time Commitment / Meetings:

· Attend ~10 Board meetings per year (~3 hours each, plus a strategy and planning day)

· Additional time for reading papers, correspondence, and specific project work

Expenses:
Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses (e.g., travel to meetings) will be reimbursed. This is a voluntary role; no salary or honorarium is offered.
