The Art Ministry are looking for people to join our Board of Trustees

What we do

We are a well established and respected creative charity who believes that anyone can enjoy good mental health and wellbeing by engaging in creative activities.

We provide regular art and craft sessions for children and adults with a wide variety of needs.

We extend our reach by providing sessions for partners, including local schools, Southend in Sight, Sanctuary Housing and South Essex Homes.

We engage with the wider community by providing art and craft activities at local events, by offering volunteering and employment opportunities, and holding exhibitions.

Who we need

We need people with experience of finance, HR, fundraising, event management, digital engagement, PR, partnerships, and/or delivering creative services.

We need creative thinkers who can work collaboratively to provide the leadership that The Art Ministry needs to achieve its strategic objective of helping even more members of the local community improve their mental health and wellbeing by engaging in creative activities.

You will need to commit to at least 4 hours a month, including at least 4 trustee meetings a year.

You do not need previous board or senior management experience. We don’t expect any one person to meet all our needs!

What we will give you

We will validate your suitability for the role through an interview, reference and security checks.

We will provide you with an induction to The Art Ministry and appropriate training, software and memberships, to help you fulfil your role. We will reimburse your pre-agreed expenses.

You will have the opportunity to help shape the strategic direction of The Art Ministry as well as ensure that it meets its day to day operational objectives and to network with others in the third sector.

Getting the right support at the right time can make a world of difference.

In the challenging times following a terminal diagnosis or the death of a loved one, the Hospice has a range of support available. The Man Shed provides an alternative to formal support, enabling ‘Shedders’ to spend time with others in similar situations while engaging in a purposeful activity, learning new skills and enjoying friendship and support along the way. The primary aim of the Man Shed is to be a place to talk with others about anything and everything. Volunteers also help ‘Shedders’ to plan and safely work on their DIY projects, and make sure sessions run smoothly. 

We’re looking for Man Shed Session Leader Volunteers for all sessions but especially Mondays and Thursdays. This is a weekly commitment of 6 hours per week, you will commit to 2 sessions on 1 day per week. Sessions take place from 10.30am-12.30pm and 1.30-3.30pm, with some time required to set up and leave the workshop tidy afterwards.

You’ll enjoy helping and teaching other users, be comfortable supervising the safe use of equipment, and offer a listening ear to the attendees.

Full training and support will be provided. You must be able to attend equipment training day.

We are looking to recruit a Group Coordinator for our Wrexham group. As our local Group Coordinator you’ll take the lead in making sure your local group works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct and support other group volunteers to make sure your group’s activities meet the needs of your local MS community. Vegetarian for Life (VfL) is the only UK charity specifically dedicated to supporting older vegetarians and vegans. If you share our belief that all older people should be enabled to maintain their chosen diet and lifestyle, have access to trusted information, and enjoy good quality plant-based food wherever they live, this role may be of interest to you.

Our trustees work with the CEO of VfL and its operational team to ensure strong governance and help realise the strategic aims of this unique and growing charity. Since its formation in 2007, VfL has earned widespread respect for its advocacy, training, and resources that support dignity and choice in later life.

In line with our new Vision for 2030, we are looking to strengthen our board with a new trustee who brings experience of business development and income generation. This role is ideal for someone who understands how values-led enterprise can fuel social change.

We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in:

• Social enterprise or ethical business growth

• Developing new income streams or commercial partnerships

• Consultancy, training, or service-based models

• Scaling mission-aligned products or services

You’ll work alongside a committed board and leadership team as we seek to build VfL’s long-term sustainability – including enhancing our earned income to complement strong reserves and existing financial support.

Experience of charity governance is welcomed but not essential. More important is a strategic mindset, commercial insight, and a strong commitment to VfL’s mission.

The role of trustee is a voluntary one, with expenses paid when incurred in connection with the role. The board meets quarterly, mainly via video conferencing, with at least one in-person meeting annually in Manchester. Meetings are held on Saturdays, with additional (short) discussions scheduled by arrangement when needed.

About the Role

Independent Visitors are volunteers who befriend and spend time with a child or young person within Local Authority care. Our volunteers enjoy the challenge of building a lasting friendship and the children benefit greatly from a consistent, fun relationship with someone outside the care system.

This is a long-term, one to one commitment. Full training and on-going support will be given, and out of pocket expenses paid for mileage and activities.

Background

First Step is a Charity based in the London Borough of Havering, working with families of children with special needs and/or disabilities. For more than 35 years, we have supported in excess of 1,500 families and their children.

Families are referred or self-refer to us at a moment of crisis or uncertainty, normally pre-diagnosis, where they have concerns about their child.  We provide a range of family-centric services tailored to each family’s and child’s needs.

During our history we’ve had highs and lows, including overcoming a challenging time following the withdrawal of funding from the Local Authority in 2017 as part of their own austerity cuts.  Despite this, we’ve managed to sustain the charity through increased fundraising.

Our current Board has more than 80 years of experience, and over the next couple of years we’re looking to add some new and dynamic Trustees to strengthen the team and bring refreshed critical and creative thinking to our Charity.

Youth Leaders work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens. Youth Leaders also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team.

You’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

Youth meetings take place on Wednesday evenings. Ideal candidates would be asked to commit to attending at least two weeks in every month.
