We’re passionate about what we do, and love giving second-hand clothing a chance of going to a good home. Our shop teams are key to raising vital funds for our work and act as incredible advocates for the rights of children both in the UK and around the world.

Volunteering in the shop

Mary's Living & Giving for Save the Children is unique - a vibrant result of the generous gifts of local individuals and companies being turned around by the skills and passions of volunteer teams, to create a destination retail experience. We hold a prime position on the picturesque Church Street and from our little pink shop we raise lifesaving funds for Save The Children’s work both in the U.K. and abroad. As well as raising awareness on sustainable fashion and fashion climate activism, we’re a hub of excitement and passion!

Our Stoke Newington Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

What happens next?

After you’ve filled in an application, we will invite you for an informal trial shift. It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the tasks that you would be supporting with as a shop volunteer. Hopefully allowing you to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s for you. We also ask for a couple of references (these don’t have to be formal workplace ones, just someone who has known you for over 6 months and isn’t related).

Our County Representatives (CR) will support our Fundraising Team by being the public face of Combat Stress in their local county, and will help build support from individuals and groups by raising awareness and funds. We are looking for volunteers who can spend time with our clients  in and around Central London.  Meetings are  regular over a period of 6 months; weekly or fortnightly.  Many volunteers stay involved for much longer but only because they enjoy what they do! 

Befriending is a simple way to make a positive difference to someone who is lonely or socially isolated and your gift of time and regular companionship will give them, and you, something to look forward to. As one of our volunteers once told us, “this is an easy, very meaningful way to help someone and is immensely rewarding and fun!”  

Your meetings could be in the local community, having chats in a coffee shop, visiting places of interest, or in our client’s home; all activities are risk assessed so what you do together will depend on the results of this, and / orour clients abilities and interests. Most of our clients are older 1st and 2nd generation Scots living in London who simply want to do the activities that most of us take for granted but have no-one to do them with.

ScotsCare works across London and beyond so we're looking for volunteers who live in the area or can travel to the following areas; Lambeth, Islington, Camden, central London and Broxbourne EN10. Read Easy groups are changing the lives of individual adults across the country by providing them with the support they need to learn to read, and in turn opening doors for them to all sorts of new opportunities in life. As the Team Leader you are responsible for the proper and effective direction of your local group. This role will appeal to someone with enthusiasm and energy who will enjoy managing a team of diverse volunteers. Ideally, the Team Leader will remain in this role for at least two years.

How we will support you

You will be provided with the Management Team Handbook, training/induction, policies, and guidance specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser, via your Team Leader. So now we are seeking a dynamic and creative Volunteer Social Media Manager to oversee our organisation’s online presence across various digital platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing engaging content, managing social media campaigns, and fostering positive relationships with our online community. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape our brand image and connect with audiences in innovative ways. The ideal applicant will possess strong communication skills, a keen eye for trends, and experience in public relations and social media management.

Duties

• Develop and implement comprehensive social media strategies aligned with the charity's goals.
• Create, curate, and schedule engaging content across platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others.
• Monitor social media channels for customer interactions, comments, and messages; respond promptly to foster community engagement.
• Analyse performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and optimise content accordingly.
• Collaborate with marketing and PR teams to ensure brand consistency and maximise outreach efforts.
• Manage online reputation by addressing feedback and managing crisis communications when necessary.
• Stay informed on the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices to keep the organisation at the forefront of digital engagement.

• Social Media Management, Content Creation, and Strategy Development skills
• Knowledge of Analytics, Social Media Metrics, and trend analysis
• Creativity and ability to design engaging campaigns for diverse platforms
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Understanding of online activism or passion for creating positive social change is a plus
• Access to a reliable internet connection and ability to work remotely
• Prior experience with social media platforms, tools, and scheduling software is beneficial
• Proven experience in social media management with a strong portfolio of successful campaigns.
• Excellent written communication skills with an ability to craft compelling content tailored to different audiences.
• Strong understanding of public relations principles and how they apply within digital environments.
• Proficiency in social media management tools such as Hootsuite, Buffer, or Sprout Social.
• Ability to analyse data analytics to inform strategic decisions and demonstrate campaign success.
• Organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
