We’re looking for our first Director of Operations: a strategic, hands-on leader who can turn vision into action and passion into plans. Working closely with our new CEO, you’ll ensure that our people, systems, and processes all work together to deliver effectively for the communities we serve.

You’ll combine strategic oversight with operational delivery across key areas including HR, finance, compliance, governance, IT, and organisational processes. We are Neuroendocrine Cancer UK. We exist to address the unmet needs voiced by the neuroendocrine cancer community, supporting patients and their loved ones with the physical and psychological burden of neuroendocrine cancers. Through awareness, research, better funding and support, we can give our community the attention it deserves

Key Responsibilities 

1. Operational Oversight and Delivery 

• Lead and manage a small in-house operations team (2 staff members) and oversee the work of external consultants as required to deliver operational plans aligned with strategic goals. 
   
• Drive the successful delivery of existing services, overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring services are delivered efficiently and to a high standard while supporting the implementation of new initiatives and improvements. 

• Ensure systems and processes are fit for purpose and support delivery of strategic goals. 
   
• Management and maintenance of the Salesforce system.
   
• Maintain oversight of service development, ensuring it reflects user feedback and sector innovation (with Directors/Managers). 

• Lead audits and evaluations to ensure service effectiveness and continuous improvement. 

2. Governance and Compliance (working with CEO) 

• Maintain compliance with all relevant legislation, including safeguarding, data protection, and health & safety. 

• Develop and oversee policies and procedures that uphold good governance, safeguarding, GDPR, digital governance, and ethical standards. 

• Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Data Protection Officer (DPO). 

• Provide assurance to the CEO and Board on compliance and operational risk. 

3. Financial Stewardship and Operational Management 

• Support the CEO in ensuring financial sustainability. 

• Oversee day-to-day budgeting, financial reporting, and grant management. 

• Ensure timely processing of payments, payroll, and contracts. 

• Support income generation through sound financial planning and operational oversight. 
   
• Review all processes, procedures & delegations and suggest updates as necessary.

4. People and Organisational Development 

• Support the CEO to recruit and induct staff.

• Work with CEO to oversee HR matters including performance management (with HR support). 

• Prioritise staff wellbeing, engagement, and professional development. 

• Support the CEO in succession planning and building organisational resilience. 

5. Service Quality and Improvement 

• Work with relevant management team to ensure high-quality service delivery aligned with user needs and feedback. 

• Monitor performance and report on impact to CEO and trustees. 

• Drive operational improvements and support the development of new initiatives. 

6. Insight, Data, and Continuous Improvement 

• Collect, analyse, and report operational data to support decision-making. 

• Oversee monitoring, evaluation, and audits to ensure accountability and learning. 

• Support research and innovation projects by ensuring operational systems are robust and effective. 
• Work with the board & CEO to review all processes, procedures & suggest updates as necessary.

About the Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Finance Business Partner to join our Finance Team based at our Head Office in Abbots Leigh.

Reporting to the Finance Director, this is a key role providing financial insight, analysis and advice to support informed decision-making and drive financial performance across both Freeways and Freeways Trust.

A key part of the role is the preparation of accurate and timely monthly management accounts and analysis for both charities, ensuring the information produced is clear, insightful and supports effective financial management and reporting. You will lead in the financial planning, monitoring and performance reporting for Freeways Trust.

You will also support the Finance Director with strategic financial planning, long-term forecasting and the development of the financial and strategic estates plan for both organisations. Working in a strong, collaborative relationship with the Finance Operations Manager, you’ll help ensure the integrity of financial reporting and the alignment between operational finance and business planning.

In this role, you will:

· produce accurate, timely and insightful monthly management accounts and reports for both Freeways and Freeways Trust

· lead the financial planning, monitoring and reporting for Freeways Trust, including reporting at Board level

· support the Finance Director in developing long-term financial and strategic estate plans for both charities

· partner with senior managers and budget holders to provide expert financial analysis and advice

· work closely with the Finance Operations Manager to maintain strong controls and alignment across financial systems and processes

· coach and support non-financial managers to strengthen their financial understanding and decision-making

· oversee payroll activity and ensure compliance with internal controls

· identify and lead improvements to financial reporting and planning processes

About You

You will be a qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or CIPFA) with at least three years post-qualification experience, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience at a similar level. You will have excellent analytical and communication skills, a proactive approach and the ability to influence decisions through sound financial insight.

You will also have:

· Proven experience in preparing management accounts and financial reports

· Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting and performance monitoring

· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

· The ability to build strong working relationships across all levels

· Advanced Excel skills and experience in using accounting systems such as Access Financials or Dimensions

Governance

· Assisting with the election, appointment and reappointment processes for board and committee members.

· Manage trustee onboarding, training, and compliance requirements.

· Maintain board records and listings.

· Supporting the Deputy CEO to ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.  

Operations

· Assist in the daily management of IAPB operations, including correspondence, scheduling and record-keeping.

· Maintaining efficient administration systems and databases.

· Help coordinate internal meetings, prepare agendas and take minutes.

· Office management administration

· Support to IT and HR as needed.

· Compliance with data protection and health and safety policies.

· Provide support to all other departments as necessary.

· Other reasonable duties as required from time to time.

General

· The ability to deal with competing priorities whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail.

We are working with Age UK Birmingham an independent local charity, working alongside Age UK Sandwell to support the older people of the City of Birmingham and the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell. They have been working in the community for over 30 years to support older people, their families and carers, so that everyone can enjoy later life.

They are in search of a Finance Manager. Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Finance Manager will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial control procedures across the organisation. They will provide and present timely and accurate financial management reports to the CEO and the Board of Trustees.

The role is key to ensuring financial functions are constantly appraised for efficiency, incorporating new ways of working and technology to support the charity’s sustainable growth.

With part or fully qualified AAT/CIMA certifications (or equivalent) you will have experience of:

• Financial reporting, compliance and audit
• Strategy, Budgeting and forecasting
• Team leadership, operations, partnerships and efficiency
• Governance, Risk and Reserves
• Strong administration and compliance
• Charity sector and SORP experience

We are looking for someone who can work independently, as well as in a team with, ideally, experience with working in the voluntary sector. You will have strong communication skills and the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

You will need to be hands on and with the enthusiasm to shape the finance function for future development. You will have a flexible and responsive approach and can work in a fast-paced environment and always maintaining excellent attention to detail.

We are entering an exciting phase of growth and are looking to expand our services supporting families and individuals and extend our reach across Birmingham, the Black Country, and surrounding areas. This new Operations Manager role is central to these plans.

As Operations Manager, working closely with the CEO, you’ll oversee the day-to-day running of organisation across our 2 main premises and in other community venues.   You will manage the admin and appointments functions and ensure our services run smoothly, consistently, and with a focus on quality, sustainability, and user experience. 

Initially, the role will be hands-on and operational, with responsibility for recruiting and training administrative staff, fully re-opening our 2 main premises, and transitioning to a hybrid model of online and face-to-face counselling. You will also support the implementation of updated policies, procedures, and new online appointment and case management systems.

As the organisation grows, there is significant opportunity for development, allowing you to contribute to how our services are delivered, strengthen our team, and help us meet the increasing need for our services.

Based at our Birmingham office, this role will require some flexibility in working hours to meet service needs, including working at other centres from time to time.

What you’ll do

· Oversee day-to-day operations across Birmingham, Wolverhampton, and community venues.

· Lead and manage the administration team, including recruitment, training, and volunteer coordination.

· Manage appointments, service utilisation, waiting times, and payments.

· Streamline processes and systems to improve efficiency, consistency, and client experience.

· Support implementation of new technology, online appointments, and case management systems.

· Ensure premises are safe, functional, and fit-for-purpose.

· Monitor service performance, budgets, and KPIs; prepare reports for management and funders.

· Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture.

· Work closely with service managers and the CEO to align operations with strategic goals.

· Ensure compliance with HR, health & safety, and organisational policies.

What we’re looking for

· Proven experience in operational management, ideally in third sector, health, or community services.

· Strong administrative experience and ability to oversee budgets, KPIs, and performance.

· Experience designing and embedding processes, policies, and systems.

· Confident in implementing technology and using data to drive decisions.

· Experience managing premises and creating safe, functional environments.

· Understanding of client journeys and accessibility, with experience improving engagement and service utilisation.

· Knowledge of HR and health & safety, with experience managing staff wellbeing and compliance.

· Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, with a commitment to inclusion and equity.
